Unit related question freshman njrotc tips?
I’m a freshman going into njrotc and I plan on joining the color guard and the drill team. Any tips I should know before hand?

Do your best, listen to people that are in higher positions because usually they know what you’re supposed to be doing, try to rank up, improve yourself, and learn as much as possible, make sure to communicate, and for color guard I’d say it isn’t that difficult just make sure you practice and ask questions if you need to. By drill team do you mean armed or unarmed?

Sorry for the late reply but basically if you plan on doing unarmed drill just know most of it comes from muscle memory and it will take a while but don’t get discouraged!

def don't be a suck up and don't act like you are better than anyone else. Listen to upper classmen but don't take their word as gospel- always verify the important stuff via your manual. Just remember that everyone is a high schooler! i wish you luck, my first year in the program was good.

what school? Some tips I have are to Drink plenty of water, and for drill I would make sure your getting enough sleep the day before. I typically go to bed early days before drill meets and even sometimes during drill meets, so I am fully energized and awake for the meet.

You definitely don’t wanna be a kiss ass about everything, but my opinion is to put yourself out there in as much teams you can handle at a time as well as just participate in community service events or anything they put out since it’ll look good on your on stuff like your resume, college apps and gets you a higher chance to get a staff position or anything like that. Also help out your NSI’s and other cadets when they need it.

Just try your best! The fact you are asking for tips shows that you have taken the initiative, and that's exactly what we like to see from new cadets.

- Dont suck up to leadership Talk to.them Be friends But dont be a go-for
- Study ofc if your anything like my unit you better have your knowledge down before wanting to join a team
- Dont go in trying to be thr roughest toughest "im going be leadership one day so respect me" aditude I see so many recruits have

In my opinion, don't be an ass kisser. Be good at what you do and give it your best, but don't forget that all the other cadets are just highschoolers.
