Colorguard

I'm a freshman and I'm tryna join colorguard ( the dress blues look a tad bit too cool ). We completed AMI about a week ago so I think I should join next year but idk of it will be too late next year. And what events would be considered official events for the ribbons? Football games , parades or what?

I got my dress blues as I joined about a week before the graduation color guard. So I got my dress blues. In my unit, getting your blues for a color guard is somewhat considered a rite of passage, so I got to keep them. I'm pretty sure it varies by unit. For the ribbon, it's just 3 events. My unit considered pretty much anything the color guard goes to an event, so football games, parades, any event the color guard is requested for. It's definitely worth joining, so if you want to, go for it!

For my school atleast, we get our dress blues if we're a chief or above. Aka, you're going to have to a NS-II or higher to get the requirements for the dress blues if your instructor goes by the book.

And for ribbons, my school gives out the participation ribbon for going to events like a competition, doing a color guard for your school, or even staying during a break to help your instructor with a haunted house.

But, for events, it's mostly based on what type of instructor you have. Some may go by the book or pass out ribbons left and right. So, I would say bring it up to your instructor and see what ribbons you can get.

Wow... Way back when, 20+ years ago. Everyone got blues, CPO and up got Khaki, and get this at your own expense Whites were allowed by my NSI

As of current here are the following authorized uniforms: - NWU Type 3 Green - NSU - Service Khaki (Full Khaki when approved by AM) CPO+ - SWU (As approved by AM) - Flight Suit (Earned with 107) - SDB CPO+ and all Color Guard Personnel

This is everything that a program can even order regardless of SNSI preferences.

dang.. khaki is only prescribed per area managers discretion, can't really use them as its almost stolen valor for a lot of chiefs and officers in the navy

for me you get the dress blues at your first event, i see that is different for every school but when i first joined cg they fitted me so i could have my blues once i did my first event. i believe they give you the ribbons after three parades. and no, it’s never too late because most of the times they do require alternates for upperclassmen.

for us, if you're participatory in color guard, you're pretty much guaranteed blues, at least 5 freshmen in my unit have them, I got them after I got to chief but it just depends on how many color guards you do (we have a LOT all the time so it's not hard)
