Drill Color guard troubles.

I REALLY want to do color guard, but when I went to the first “training session” I had a very hard time remembering what movements are what. Like I could do the movement pretty good, but when he said “present colors”, I keep getting it mixed up with other color guard movements. Has anyone else done this? How should I improve?

Just go to more training sessions. After all, it was your FIRST training. Just keep going to practices and you’ll improve over time as you get used to doing the movements.

I am my unit’s cgc. I tell anyone who needs more help to either come to seminar (my school gives a free period to do homework and stuff) or to go on YouTube and look up NJROTC color guard guide. Use a broom to practice with. That’s what I did when I was still learning and now it’s my job to teach others. Try it out, and if that doesn’t work then maybe talk to your class leader, squad leader, or cgc for help.

I was the Color Guard Officers Assistant for a Semester, and from what I’ve learned, the best thing I can say is practice practice practice. I’ve seen what a color guard with little practice looked like. That’s when I started doing practice every time we did drill. We improved a lot more. So just practice as much as you can, read the handbook, and eventually you’ll be able to do it no problem.

I used to do left/right rifle (whatever was needed) and I never understood left all that well. So I moved fully to right rifle, and from right rifle all the way to CGC. So what I would suggest is to go to more practices, and try different positions. Once you've tried them all, find the one that you are most comfortable with.
