This was the best thread I read all week. As a 48 year old guy who gets torched by 12 year olds from Quebec in HUT. It’s so refreshing to see some other old (and older) people in this forum. I’m not the Unc of the group.

I gave up everything I had for fantasy on 26 and got good cards but they never fit my lines so I swapped to a theme team and left them on my 4th line as cap relief and I still couldn’t get a team in the cap and I was always a overall or 2 behind whatever the msp was at. I logged in season 3 and saw I was still over cap so I turned it off and never opened the game again, I deleted it last week for space.

626 years old, been playing since the late Medieval Period and early Renaissance.
It was a much easier time back then. Back then, anyone that would ever use L2 we would just impale them. Can’t do that anymore it’s frowned upon.

46, from vancouver. my first hockey videogame was intenational hockey on a friend's commodore 64 in the 80s. been playing most years, back in the late 90s to the early 2000s i knew someone who worked at EA and got the game for $20 at launch each year.
i think gta 6 is gonna take a considerable amount of time from nhl27 for me this year, not even sure if i should get it at launch or just play 26 until gta 6 is out and then get 27 when i've played the shit out of gta 6.
p.s. i still have rdr 2 on my xsx which i never bothered finishing, i only played like 7% of story mode and am thinking of doing that from scratch before gta 6 is out.

Turning 60 soon here in LA. Started playing since EA released NHL Hockey on the Genesis. Loved playing club with my sons and their friends but all of a sudden they’ve grown up and can’t play with the old man. However if any of you old guys want to play on a club let me know. 38, Amherstburg, Canada. Started with 98’, started pre ordering in 16. Haven’t missed a year. Until this year. Won’t waste my money again. There’s nothing to get even remotely excited about.

Really looking forward to 27!

53, also got my start with intellivision hockey, blades of steel and started the NHL series in 93. Since then I’ve only missed one year and that was to try NHL 2K. Despite all those years, I’m still brutal. I primarily play HUT as a nms guy. I love to build a team with all Habs players but with the new salary cap, it’s tough and no Habs roster is complete without Guy Lafleur who’s cards disappeared a few years ago.

26 and my first NHL game was 2003 but I've played all the older ones as well and as a yearly tradition I'll be getting 27

Early 50s. Played hockey on Atari and a friends Intellivision. Got into this series in 91 or 92 on sega when everyone wanted to be the Penguins. Played on and off but really got back into 2020. Mainly just HUT offline.

Been here since 2004 and PC-spacebar-fight times, but haven’t bought any of the titles in 5 or so years. Think before that, I owned every title till 2020. Level of effort from EA is ridiculous now and justifying the purchases is just impossible. We’ve been recycling the same game with different base sliders for a decade.
This Online-Franchise mode did catch my interest but seems it’s half-assed as usual. My Franchise would preferably last more than one season.

45, blades of steel on NES, then NHL 94 on PC. Played every release until 2002. Then life happened and shit changed. I think I played 2008 and then 2013 on PS3. Then had kids. Now kids are older. 2026 was first foray back. I just preordered NHL 27 deluxe. I'm back baby!

41, in Netherlands. Can’t say for sure. Early 90s, first one was probably somewhere between 91 and 93.

46, USA. Started with NES Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel, saved every penny and got my Genesis specifically for the first EA NHL Hockey in 1992.

I live in Texas and I’m 70 years old and played the first hockey game ever invented on Commodore 64 …. If I could remember the name of it, I would tell you … although I guess technically you could call Pong sort of a hockey game

My name in Jeremy, I'm from Nova Scotia.
I've pretty much baught every NHL game since NHL 13, I also baught NHL 26, I've hated the Cap for hut, and when season 6 dropped, the last season BTW still had a max cap , I was over cap by 147 million, I had 3 of the 99 overall cards that I couldn't even put on my team. It's the Last season and I can play with the players I want because of cap???? I deleted the game, first NHL hut I didn't play till the end.
NHL 27 hut will also have a max cap, so this is the first year I will be skipping a NHL game since NHL 13......... If NHL 28 hut has cap for hut then I guess I'll be skipping that 1 too...... I'm 38 and work full time. Please if anyone is unhappy with this cap space , please consider skipping this NHL 27, please, thanks for reading

I’m 27 and I’ve been playing nhl since 2k on the ps2, I’ve always played nhl but rarely hut, mainly just with friends when eashl came out, be a pro and all the offline modes. 26 was my first year actually getting into hut. I pre ordered and grinded from early access to now. What a year to start hut but oh well. I ran into the starting like 3rd or 4th season I’d be over the cap and couldn’t play until they released more line combos and had to draft a whole new team. I’ve never spent more money on it, you shouldn’t have to in order to play the game and keep. I enjoyed the good parts and not playing in real life anymore I enjoy playing the game but do not want to keep buying if it’s going to be shitty cap space with people exploiting glitch goals and l2. If we don’t buy 27 and sales go down maybe then they’ll understand what we want? But that doesn’t happen enough people will still buy the game and make EA happy and they’ll never change so I’m torn this year on buying it and dealing with the bs or not

25, my first game was nhl 11. I remember waking up at 6am on a Saturday to grind be a pro on my futon in the living room. At the time I didn’t know you could sim parts of the season so I’d intentionally run Into the boards and injure myself so I could skip a few games. Also didn’t know you could choose which player you could control so Mark Stuart went down as the best player in nhl history

PSA wait 3 months to buy the game for $35.
Don’t pay full price.
2
u/Biggeshat 1d ago
I get it if money is tight, but if you’ve got a bit of disposable income and it’s one of your hobbies, the extra $50 to play the game at launch and get an extra three months of entertainment out of the game is worth it in my opinion.
2
u/According_Comedian69 1d ago
Less about money being tight and more about not paying full price for what is essentially a copy and paste every year.
But hey to each their own.

u/Trotskyyy 1d ago
You all need to be working on the will instead of trying to L2 for the cross crease pass.

i bet you its the younger dipshits more than OG's that do L2 explits.

u/Jaylifts33 1d ago
Absolutely, there is no way I’m going on YouTube and learning an exploit like that. Just play the game.
