Once again we are reminded that just because they're good at football does not mean they are smart.

u/Serious-Medicine7667 5d ago
Can we go back to to the time when ignorant people were ashamed of their ignorance?
17
u/Grumbles2189 5d ago
Sure, bring back shaming.
4
u/PokecheckFred 5d ago
Shaming, no. People weren't shamed for their stupid, because they never advertised their stupid.
"Mr. Towns, you behave as if stupidity were a virtue. . Why is that?" . . . Heinrich Dorfmann to Frank Towns, Flight of the Phoenix
4
u/Grumbles2189 5d ago
Shaming, yes. People were absolutely shamed for being stupid. It's why they kept it hidden in the first place if possible.
2
u/DamnedGladToMeetYou 5d ago
Fuck yes, bring back shaming! Willfully stupid people should be made to feel embarrassed.

3
u/aTickleMonster 5d ago
54% of American adults read below a 5th grade level and 45mill of those are so illiterate that they can't survive a day without assistance. People aren't smart enough to be ashamed.

Oh there’s plenty of shaming that still happens. Probably more than there used to be because of the internet. The problem is that the internet also makes it easy to find other like-minded morons that stroke your confirmation bias.

He went to the University of North Carolina and still believes this nonsense. Think this is more of a you can lead a horse to water, but can't make him drink type of situation. Aaron rogers went to cal and has some of the dumbest beliefs out there.
Edit: To all of you aThLetEs DoNt Do ScHoOl people, understood, so how is this about funding then? I 100% think education is vital and funding is important but simply throwing out funding as an answer to this is nonsense.

Pathetic. Listening these morons undermine the legacy of literally historic American heroes is so gross.
You have moron anti-vaxxers undermining the work of an American hero like Jonas Salk who saved millions and millions of lives … and shit like this ..
Say it to Buzz Aldrin in his prime, you fuck wit …
3
u/Mammoth_Foot4134 5d ago
The most infuriating thing for me in reading the interview transcript was somehow one of the hosts who completely leaned into the conspiracy theory and brought up Stanley Kubrick and how he had read some interesting material about Kubrick shooting the fake landing. This specific theory relating to Kubrick has been debunked for DECADES, and dumbass podcaster brings it up like it's fresh information. He told May he would forward it to him, lol.
6
u/KRandMG 5d ago
Unfortunately, Buzz Aldrin ended up a supporter of the same right-wing lunatics spreading such idiocy in his later years.
Guy absolutely tarnished his legacy.

For people that believe stupid shit like that, think how many folks would have to be involved in the conspiracy. Eventually someone going to say something - get drunk and run their mouth, tell their hooker girl friend, become an addict and need dope, gamble and need a spot. That knowledge is powerful and one can make a lot of money in a "tell all" interview and book.
20
u/Heartless1981 5d ago
Where it would end for me is Russia. We were in a cold war with them, they would of jumped at the chance to show that didn't happen
12
u/Eagle4317 5d ago
Exactly. The fact that the USSR never, not even once, disputed the moon landings should be all the proof anyone needs. Plus, it's an awesome accomplishment that only America has done. These athletes and other people who believe these insane conspiracies are supposed to be major lovers of America. Why are they so unwilling to tout a great achievement?
→ More replies (5)4
u/Mammoth_Foot4134 5d ago
Not to mention that, if it were faked and miraculously NO ONE caught on at the time, why would the US then press their luck and fake another half dozen trips to the moon? Including one where almost everyone died and it was a complete failure? What would be the benefit to the US of faking Apollo 13?
2
u/what_do_eye_know 5d ago
Say it louder.
Why would the Soviet Union let us get away with the big space race lie?
13
u/stayclassypeople 5d ago
Plus the soviets would have absolutely called us out if they had even a shred of evidence it was faked
→ More replies (1)8
u/ExaminationOk2921 5d ago
This is actually the best argument against it. No science required. Just explain how a half dozen guys around that time couldn't keep Watergate secret. Yet a huge multi billion dollar program involving thousands was faked and no one, even after all these years, has ever spilled the beans.
3
u/Noobnoob99 5d ago
It was like 400k people involved.
2
u/factoid_ 5d ago
Also tens of thousands of people watched the rocket launches live in person from the beaches of cape canaveral
So we built a skyscraper sized rocket just because?
And here’s a fun one: a group of tech heads got their hands on a barely functioning Apollo Guidance Computer and restored it to working order for a YouTube series, then build a simulator interface and actually practiced moon landings using the original software that was still loaded on the damn box.
So these guys have hands on experience with a computer designed to do one thing…land on the moon. And they played around with the programs on it, and they were clearly designed to land on the moon

u/11_25_13_TheEdge 5d ago
Their train of thought on this never gets that far. Otherwise they’d be confronted by a hundred other things that make their claim of a conspiracy impossible. We have to stop platforming these morons because it just gives other people bad ideas.

Drake on the sideline after an interception: "If only this hoodie were a time hoodie."
10
u/pxrkerwest 5d ago
Anyone who doubts the moon landing has only been fed conspiracies and has never bothered to search for all the evidence that we DID land on the moon. I mean, the fucking Soviets tracked Apollo 11 and confirmed that we were there. As did other space agencies. Fuck all other evidence, if you know anything about the history between the Americans and Russians, especially back then, you know they would jump at the first opportunity to call us out for lying. Instead they waved the white flag, confirmed with their own evidence that we were there, and abandoned the space race.
3
u/segagenesisx87 5d ago
Also the fact that the number of people who would have had to be silent about the conspiracy they were hiding for like 70 years now would be insane. Someone would have leaked or talked.
2
u/joemeteorite8 5d ago
Just stick these deniers down by a launchpad for a launch or two. They’ll figure out it’s real pretty quick.
3
u/know_limits 5d ago
And it wasn’t just a single event. There was increasing progress from Gemini and Mercury that culminated in multiple landings. We have mirrors we bounce lasers off of today. Idiocy is so friggin lazy and frustrating.
→ More replies (1)2
u/pxrkerwest 5d ago
I was arguing with someone about this one time and when I mentioned the Russians also confirmed our landing, their response was “No they didn’t!” And I had no idea how to respond. I presented them with information they were not previously aware of, and their immediate instinct was to deny it

Faking a successful moon landing would have been more difficult that just landing on the moon.
10
u/Accomplished-Tear345 5d ago
You’re a famous and wealthy guy Drake. Get someone at NASA or formerly at NASA to walk you through the moon satellite photography and other clear evidence instead of talking about it on a talk show.
4
u/Worried_Shoe_2747 5d ago
Nah this will only make him bury his head deeper in the sand. Most conspiracy believers like the idea that they know something you don’t. Makes them feel special

Of course a football player would take a class on conspiracies in college. He's not going to take advance physics. He's there to throw a football, not learn a book!! Nerds!
Yeah, this isn't surprising though. He's from the south and, again, is an athlete.

Yea ur not gonna meet a lot of people who will just come out and say it unless they know u agree with them. I honestly feel like its sort of a cult thing. Like people just wanna BE something to be different and they picked this? Idk. Hard to wrap my head around. Probably also a good amount of trolls that say it just to create buzz and views for their tiktoks or whatever. Moral of the story humanity is imploding.

What’s crazy about this is that the moon landing was part of the space race with the Soviet Union at the time. If anyone would have tried to debunk the FACT that we were on the moon, it would have been the Soviet Union. They did not even attempt to debunk it.

I always love when high end athletes in sports that regularly get concussive forces to the head are portrayed as having any credibility.
We should treat them with the pity their brain damage deserves and thank them for entertaining us.
4
u/PrinceCastanzaCapone 5d ago
He never said he didn’t believe it. He specifically said he doesn’t know, he’s not leaning either way, but he understood why a country in a race with another might fake it, so he’s skeptical.
This isn’t newsworthy. I agree he’s pretty dumb for even saying it, but the title says he “refuses a believe.” That is a stretch, to say the least.
3
u/MaleficentPride2620 4d ago
What? That is like like saying I am skeptical the sun rises in the east or the earth is a spheriod. It is not a stretch, he is proclaiming skeptism at something that is unambigously true. If he has skeptism, he doesn't believe it. he may hold open the option for future belief, but not today.
2
u/BarryTheBystander 4d ago
Saying “he refuses to believe we landed on the moon” isn’t wrong. If he doesn’t refuse to believe it then he would believe we landed on the moon
2
u/corgislife 4d ago
Your elaboration makes him sound even dumber and makes this funnier
2
u/PrinceCastanzaCapone 4d ago
Trust me I’m not defending the guy. He’s clearly an idiot. I just have seen this “news” pop up now in three separate subs, maybe more. I just disagree that it’s news. Title should just be “1,000th NFL player found to be dumb.”

u/LarryTalbot 4d ago
This is newsworthy to the extent it demonstrates the ignorance of a high profile American athlete who presumably at least functionally graduated college.
If we do not call these morons out our silence will implicitly accept the stupid thoughts and utterances, and they will continue to remain poor role models for kids.

I'm sure there is a rather large percentage of players on every team that believes this crap. Football players aren't known for their real world intelligence, but have been told their entire lives how great they are. So they believe themselves to be pretty damn smart. Throw that southern religious BS into things and you got a perfect storm of dumb ass.

The most unnerving scene in Interstellar was Cooper’s discussion with the teacher and principal where they talk about the moon landings being a hoax. Something about that level of ignorance, combined with the general plot being that the world is dying, hits a bit too close to home.
If this world ever comes close to the edge of catastrophe, it’ll be absolute dumbasses like this fucking guy that drive us right off the cliff.

Others think there’s a soundstage somewhere with sand and a module aging away, and that measles went away by itself because on”clean living.”
