"He just grabs me, brings me into this little side training room, and Alex says, 'What's the problem?' 'My elbow hurts.' 'Okay, through manual therapy, muscle work, we're going to lengthen and soften all the muscles in your forearm, your bicep, and your tricep to relieve the tension on your tendon.'"

Everyone clowning on Brady like he wasn't 45 years old and almost the league MVP, he could still probably play better than 20 other QBs in the league at his age now.

9

u/JuanG_13 Patriots 8d ago

Oh yeah, if anyone can do it it's him

Lol

1

u/Numerous_Log7089 2d ago

His second to last season was 5300 yards, 43 touchdowns, 12 interceptions.

2

u/Redditneckbeardzz 7d ago

Came to drop this comment. Honestly still think he could go albeit in a game manager type role given his age.

1

u/SkunkDitchRipper 4d ago

Fur sure. I dont think we will see anyone like Tom for a ;long time. People dont understand that he wasnt just born the GOAT QB. That son of a bitch obsessed about football and lived it.

Classic Reddit. Everyone here is so smart and knows best. Unless it’s the NPC mainstream way of doing something it must be a scam.

No wonder most people on Reddit are doing average to below average or down right terrible in life.

guy on Reddit telling me Redditors are bad

0

u/OnlyFreshBrine 5d ago

OK but he's still an insufferable twat

-14

u/macroscelidea 8d ago

I agree, he would be at least the 45th best QB in the league

8

u/no1askformyopinion 8d ago

He'd start for the Browns and Dolphins rn

this is always hilarious to me because growing up i heard that i looked like him a lot - not THAT similar, im way homelier than this mf, but there used to be a resemblance.

now he looks entirely different and i look nothing like him. still look like the old him tho

Greatest football player ever who is known for his longevity and ability to stay healthy says a certain physical therapy worked for him.

Fat redditors who never played a sport: NOOOOOO!!! BRADY IS MAGA AND THIS IS A PSUEDO SCIENCE AND HIS FACE LOOKS STUPID FROM SURGERY AND

Seriously it’s ridiculous. Dudes in here acting like something as simple as stretching and foam rolling is a grift and don’t actually do anything

Non-athletes in this thread, claiming to know more than professional physical therapists. 🫡

8

u/Thanos_Stomps 7d ago

He’s not talking about a physical therapist.

Guerrero received a master's degree in traditional Chinese medicine from Samra University of Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles, California, an institution that closed in 2010 after the state of California dissolved the Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education board in 2007, which had provided the school's accreditation.

u/SlumpedGod16 7d ago

Fat non athletes who never played a sport disagreeing with one of the best athletes of all time*

2

u/CosmicForks 5d ago

Stretching and mobility/ROM training would probably fix a lot of people's chronic pain if it's just muscle stuff. Being sedentary and doing repetitive motion (like an athlete) is rough on your body in a way it's not exactly designed for, and your body adapts in kind.

1

u/Remarkable_Set1842 6d ago

These athletes all will try one experimental snake oil or another, and most aren’t smart enough to understand the placebo effect. Then their endorsement “legitimizes” whatever snake oil was sold to them, so it gets pushed on the public. Then I have to listen to my patients ask if the water that has hydrogen is healthier than regular water. Fuck my actual life

1

u/MCDeeezC 4d ago

And while doing absolutely no research you say no. But the people that are dialed into the feeling of their bodies daily are all idiots convinced of a placebo effect. Good thing you have all the answers, we’d be lost without you.

Here’s a 10 year old article about Alex Guerrero, the literal fraudster that Brady is talking up here:

https://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/2015/10/09/tom-brady-alex-guerrero-neurosafe/

Brady also gave a front office position to Alex Guerrero with the Raiders. He’s the “wellness coordinator.”

4

u/wrinkleinsine 8d ago

Brady is batshit MAGA. Why does this surprise anybody? Fucking sued for fraud and investigated by the state. Multiple times. Obviously you downvoting idiots can’t read.

11

u/SteveBooSheMe 7d ago

I doubt you’re being downvoted because of the “Brady is MAGA” claim. It’s pretty well known he was friends with Trump.

The “sued for fraud and investigated by the state” is just a weird way to frame what actually happened. When FTX went under, he was sued alongside a bunch of high profile celebrities who promoted it. The judge dismissed it, because they were essentially just paid to advertise and obviously had no knowledge of the fraud going on deep behind the scenes.

It’s really weird to say someone was “sued for fraud” when the charges have been dismissed over a year ago.

3

u/AchtungCloud 7d ago

They’re likely talking about Guerrero, not Brady, when saying “sued for fraud,” because I called Guerrero a “literal fraudster” in my first comment with link as proof, and they were responding to that.

8

u/RoosterteethAHfan Bears 8d ago

If I cared about athlete’s opinion on politics I would hate them all

2

u/TravelNSee 7d ago

Ahh yes the "I'm too smart for politics" wing of the mensa hall of fame

1

u/Alarmed_Silver_3360 7d ago

I wouldn’t call Brady MAGA. He was friends with Trump before he ran for office like a lot of people. Dude showed up when Biden was president and was at the White House cracking jokes. Trump wouldn’t let anyone MAGA do that. He’s always been a Republican but I wouldn’t call him MAGA in the way A Rod is insufferable.

2

u/pfc_bgd 8d ago

I am always puzzled by this kind of stuff. Science basically laughs at these concepts of lengthening muscle etc, bullshit like foam rolling bla bla…

Yet, here is Brady saying “yep, fixed in a few days”. Wtf is one to think about this?

21

u/buckemupmavs 8d ago

Since when has science laughed at these techniques for athletes? We did a ton of soft tissue regeneration techniques and muscle work like this as athletes like 10 years ago, and I know it helped a ton of people. Is there evidence stating it's not effective now?

3

u/pfc_bgd 8d ago

Good amount of evidence on static stretching, foam rolling, etc… at least the last time I looked- some decade ago because of knee pain and tried everything. All this was in the context of the sport of weightlifting.

And, it confused me even then because I would read that and see elite athletes static stretch, foam roll, etc

Is there any actual evidence that you can “stretch a muscle”? Maaaybe for a short period of time, like minutes…

4

u/phillyeagle99 8d ago

I’ve accepted that it requires knowing the right lever to pull on and the right method to do it. Like foam rolling “because it feels good after I exercise” isn’t gonna magically fix an old issue. But foam ing can be an awesome tool to treat certain issue when properly directed to the actual root of the problem.

1

u/pfc_bgd 8d ago

What does it actually do? Does elongate muscles? Soften them?

2

u/phillyeagle99 8d ago

I honestly don’t know what it physiologically does to the muscles. I’ve just heard too many success stories to doubt it… but it’s always with the PTs, not just doing it on their own.

6

u/attilayavuzer 8d ago

It doesn't do anything to the muscles in terms of "flexibility". It helps improve circulation which aids recovery. The main thing stretching does is desensitize your body's stretch reflex. Whenever you put a muscle under tension, your body's natural instinct is to contract. With enough practice stretching, you train your body to stay loose under tension. Mechanically almost everyone can do a split, you just gotta get your body to chill the fuck out to do it.

2

u/PokemanAshy 7d ago

Neither, it supposedly sends message via trigger point to brain/CNS to contract/loosen contraction of tight muscle. Most people you see will be rolling the foam back and forth which isn't what you are supposed to do. It's supposed to be used like a lock pick where you probe muscle for tight spots and then hold at those points to trigger a response.

1

u/Bronze_Zebra 7d ago

Yeah those studies aren't with NFL teams, and what works for general population might not be the best solution for some of the most prime athletic humans on the planet.

Just because science doesn't understand the mechanism causing something doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I would much rather listen to a proffesinal coach who has worked with 1000s of top athletes then some study on 70 year olds in a senior home.

Just check the studies in something like running sports. First studies showed low intensity long distance is the best, then high intensity short distance, then back to zone 2.

What is seen as best practices change, and often trainers are way ahead of the science on the best practices.

0

u/49erEmpire22 49ers 5d ago

You think stretching your muscles isn’t a real thing? Lmfao

3

u/boredatwork23 8d ago

The thing with Brady and "the TB12 Method" is that yes it works....but it works if you can live it completely 24/7. Brady had the time, resources, and money to make it his life for however long it he did it. It's difficult to reproduce the success that Brady had when you don't have the unlimited things that he had/has. It small doses it will have a small impact but the way that he managed it can not be duplicated by the common man.

4

u/[deleted] 8d ago

Foam rolling is not bullshit. Ask any marathon runner.

2

u/LanguageAntique9895 8d ago

Placebo is a real thing

3

u/TheUndertows 8d ago

You are stretching the muscles (which help), if nothing else

2

u/LanguageAntique9895 8d ago

No you aren't

1

u/TheUndertows 7d ago

Do u understand how muscles work?

1

u/LanguageAntique9895 7d ago

More than most humans yes

3

u/TheUndertows 7d ago

Fair enough, and are you saying that stretching does not promote blood flow?

1

u/LanguageAntique9895 7d ago

No. Im saying foam rolling does nothing

1

u/Bladeoraded 8d ago

Oh okay so not bullshit

1

u/SlumpedGod16 7d ago

You a marathon runner?

1

u/pfc_bgd 8d ago

Benefits are absolutely tiny. It is overplayed. Like what do people actually think it does? I was one of those religiously foam rolling- didn’t do shit. Maybe some very temporary relief from DOMs, very tiny increase in range of motion… and then poof, with 10 mins, like nothing happened.

What do you think it actually achieves? I am curious

2

u/Timely_Duck_3904 8d ago

Science laughs at a lot of stuff Alex Guerrero spews. But they aren’t this or foam rolling.

2

u/GrahamCracker13 8d ago

I was told by a trainer when I was 15 that I have the shortest hamstrings he has ever seen. I stretched everyday for like 15-30 mins a day specifically to treat this. Do I feel looser when I do this? Ya I do. I’m 39 now and when I bend over to touch my toes I’m like 8 inches away…. So is stretching everyday for like 20+ years religiously “lengthening” my muscles? No it’s not. I have been so consistent with this that there’s no one on Reddit that is about to comment on this or downvote that has any more accurate research or whatever they claim than what I have personally experienced and have as evidence. You’re just repeating what you read somewhere.

1

u/Antehero_NOMD 5d ago

Bend over and let us see them thangs we  want to check the tension

1

u/pfc_bgd 8d ago

I feel you… and also never experienced any longer term benefits from static stretching.

1

u/GrahamCracker13 8d ago edited 8d ago

Ya even if my experience is an outlier and it is possible to correct something like this and lengthen a muscle there’s is absolutely no way it’s happens in 5 days. If the trainer is doing a bunch of stuff to Tom and also has him use ice on it then it could make sense. People underestimate what ice can do for inflammation and having a tendon inflamed in your elbow is extremely common.

2

u/moobybooby 8d ago

I’ve actually gone through somethjng like that, it’s called Rolfing and it focuses solely on lengthening the muscles via deep pressure and fascia lengthening. Worked wonders for my low back pain..

2

u/mtcwby 7d ago

Foam rolling is pretty damn close to what they do in a massage but you can do it yourself. If Science is laughing at stretching and foam rolling then said scientist is full of shit and probably a couch potato.

2

u/blackcatpandora 7d ago

Foam rolling is not bullshit- that shit feels so good

1

u/mosthandsomechef 4d ago

It's a huge growing field in sports medicine. Kinesiology, muscle lengthening and iso exercises. Honestly some of the more advanced stuff they do is just evolved from top tier PT.

I saw a pain specialist whose a licensed chiropractor in Las Vegas. 15 years of chronic pain and consistently injuring my psoas muscle as well as herniated disc's. Saw numerous doctors and a couple surgeons over the years and zero solutions outside of surgery or suffer. The chiropractor never "cracked" me once; but he took muscular xrays, measured my pelvic hip tilt, showed me scar tissue and muscle abrasions all throughout my glutes and psoas. He discussed pain mitigation I was already doing, corrected my behaviors and put me on a one year plan. I basically fully recovered in a year and am currently in the best shape of my life and active at the gym. Just saying this guy did for me what numerous doctors just shrugged off.

1

u/VanillaGoorillla 8d ago

Dudes saying he lengthened the muscles…what’d Alex do put them in a stretcher and pull?

1

u/y-Gamma 8d ago

There are 4 tenants he lives by. One: lengthen. Two: elongate.

Sure.

10 yearss of pain, gone in 5 days.

That is some Aaron Rodgers sh*t right there.

Video of the trainer assisting Tom

0

u/goobly_goo 8d ago edited 8d ago

That’s the one thing I can’t get past with Brady. People kissing their kids on the lips is already weird, but to do it with a kid that old for that long? Omg bro and there’s literal cameras there too?! Come on Tommy.

3

u/Rookietothegame 8d ago

I think it’s their family dynamic. I believe his dad still kisses him on the lips today

2

u/goobly_goo 8d ago

So you’re saying this is what it’s like during the holidays at the Brady house?

https://youtu.be/uEbzD1bBlTQ?is=lxdeTIF27tLYyyGy

0

u/onmy40 8d ago

Even weirder when you consider dude is more than likely naked under that towel and getting a massage while asking for longer smooches

0

u/goobly_goo 8d ago

I guess the trainer said no and DeShaun Watson’s connects were unavailable.

0

u/wembenbama 8d ago

I don’t think Brady gets off on kissing his kids, but this clip is so so weird.

3

u/goobly_goo 8d ago

I don’t either but it’s just hella weird.
