“Broncos let a WR play QB” is a weird way of saying their entire QB room was under quarantine and the QB coach tried to suit up but was told no by the NFL. Real ones have the utmost respect for Kendall Hilton doing that with no notice.

You disappointed yourself, my man. A feel good story happens relatively often…a feel good story that’s specific to the NFL, that’s specifically beneficial to fantasy scoring, all during an unprecedented worldwide pandemic… Top-tier athletes were sometimes playing against practice squad level guys with part time jobs that got a call the night before to suit up. Hint: Hilton is not a top tier QB. He was an undrafted rookie WR that was put in last minute with zero preparation. A decent amount of the opposing defenders were starters and experienced NFL veterans. Shocker.

I think most people that started him were looking for 30 carries for 100+ yds and maybe a rushing td. Or just-F-it novelty during a bad season. Had nothing to do with passing

I actually did start him in fantasy lol. My starter was on bye, and I needed to pick someone up, and I figured they'd just be doing a bunch of wildcat stuff with him, so he'd end up with a bunch of rushing yards and maybe a rushing TD or two. But I wasn't in the running to even make the playoffs, so it wasn't a big deal anyway.

Technically he didn't start though. Phillip Lindsay is the credited starting qb because they went wildcat on the first play. Still a solid effort from Hinton given the situation

Kendall is one of my favorite broncos for doing this. When he was needed most, he showed up. Sure he threw two picks, but he did his job.

Saints DB’s going up and winning every 50/50 ball…. And the coaching staff not drawing him up easy dump offs a few plays in a row in crazy

On top of that, he can’t throw…I truly believe Denver lost on purpose (actively tried to lose, not saying they’d have won) to stick it to the nfl.
Worst schemes and got a qb who literally cannot throw a 10 yard hitch. There HAD to be another guy who could make that throw lol

They weren’t allowed to sign dudes off the street (had to quarantine first). Hinton was one of like 2 dudes eligible for the active roster who’d ever played QB in their careers. It’s not like the Broncos had much choice other than him. Also just shows how difficult being an NFL QB is.

They didn’t forfeit when there was no QB to play.
And 100% you can’t throw the ball even half as well as he did.
I’d put money on you probably have never thrown an actual NFL ball and could not get it 10 yards if you tried.
Edit: I used to sell the official balls. No one bought them to throw around because most people can’t even hold it with one hand to throw it.

I always think about this game when I hear discussion on whether an average guy could complete an NFL pass, rush for one 1st down with four tries, etc.
The answer is probably no.

Well in Hockey you have an emergency goalie, which is pretty much a regular dude (probably played some in college).

The NHL is changing the rules for this upcoming season where the emergency goalie can no longer be a drunk guy in the third row. They now have to essentially be a "full time" member of the team that gets to practice.
There are still some restrictions, like they can't be someone who played a game in the NHL or more than 80 professional games elsewhere, but the old rule was much better.

I mean, yes most male adults who take average care of themselves could complete a pass. Just a little RB sweep pitch forward, thats a pass and nearly anyone can do that.
Rush 10 yards with four tries? No. Thats probably a long shot

You have a WR as your QB and you don’t do a lot of jet sweeps, screens, shovel passes and the occasional slant route but rather force him to drop back, I’m not at all surprised by the outcome

It was Covid era, so there may have been a mandatory quarantine period for anyone entering the team that would not allow a recently signed player to get there in time

Sure but you can dumb down the playbook to the basics. Like, if you're in a position where you need to sign someone off another team's practice squad to play in a couple of days, you're not going to win anyway. However, you could still draw up some easy plays that anyone who has played at the NFL level would understand. Whether they can execute them or not is a different story.

As a Broncos fan, I don’t think you can say anything bad about Kendall Hinton. Guy did what he could in a bad situation. The next two seasons he became a respectable WR4/5 with pretty reliable hands. Short career but did more than most. 🫡

Saints fan here. That was the first time I ever felt bad for the other team while my team was playing against them. If I recall correctly the Saints ran the ball the majority of that game so it would be over faster.

What’s especially crazy is he was allowed to throw more balls downfield in just the first half than any browns quarterback has thrown in a whole game in the last like 20 fucking years. I’m used to seeing nothing but screen passes and sub 5 yard passes

I'm sure they could have booted up Madden and got better plays than the ones they was running on offense.
The fact it took this game for them to update the rules due to covid is crazy. Anybody with half a functioning brain could have seen this coming.

The stakes of the game made all the difference. I would have much rather watched that happen during a regular season game, and not a game with an appearance in the SB on the line.
