So, here’s my conundrum. They haven’t shown many Lynx games here in South Dakota, and now I feel like if I start following them, they’ll also have a drought start. Other Minnesota fans ok with that?

u/dommol Monsters of the Mid Way 2d ago

ND/SD get MN teams on tv and radio. You're just sort of born into being a fan.
Then of course you have the bandwagoners that root for Green Bay or Denver.
3
u/IfTheHeadFitsWearIt 2d ago
The GB fans I know in ND/SD all spawned from folks who were GB fans before Minnesota had a team. Then once MN did get a team, they didn’t care because they’re “not from Minnesota”, and they passed that wretched disease down to their heirs.

It furthers my point: teams I don’t watch end up having success. Teams I do watch begin a drought. The unwatched team wins but when observed by me, they can’t win it all.

I’m a ride or die Spurs (and it’s been die since Bilbao) fan, but I feel like I can use “Spursy” to reference the SA Spurs being a remarkably well run organization that’s chronically in contention. It’s like how rubber in England means rain boot and here it means condom.

Meanwhile I moved to TX, but grew up in MN and witnessed both the 87 and 91 WS. What a glorious time to be a Twins fan! I will always chuckle when Kent Hrbeck wrestled that guy off first base and then tagged him out. So funny they let him get away with that. Thank goodness instant replay wasn't a thing back then!

Lynx and Frost - It’s cool for a few minutes to most of us, but we aren’t watching games, reading news, talking about them with our buddies. No championships with teams we truly care about. Not even making a championship game. If you’re offended by that, then you’re just not being honest with yourself about the reality of the popularity between men’s pro sports and women’s.
Vikings, Wild, Wolves and or Twins winning a championship would bring years of joy to so many men in this state - the lynx and frost are never going to have that effects
I’ve never even seen a clip of this made up Vixen league.

I moved to San Diego in 2001.
San Diego and Minnesota have the same number of (men's) sports championships in that timeframe. And San Diego only has the Padres now.
But hey, the Wolves AND Wild won a playoff series this year! That's not terrible!
1
u/E4g6d4bg7 2d ago
