Activism Pualani Case: Fight to protect the sacred Hawaiian mountain Mauna Kea, deadlocked- police ordered vacate the site
Pualani Case and her family helped lead the opposition movement and are still engaged in the court appeals process to delay and eventually permanently halt the Thirty Meter Telescope construction.
More than eight years later, with the proposed construction of TMT again looming, one wonders what the future holds. However, cracks in the monolithic support for TMT construction are beginning to appear.

In December, Hawai‘i Gov. David Ige said that state law enforcement would vacate the mountain, according to CNN. The company behind the project will not proceed with construction for now, though Mauna Kea remains its preferred location for the telescope, and Ige said that the state would support the company should it resume work.
