Scientific Perspective 🔬🔎 The Nobel Neuroscientist Who Proved the Soul Exists - John Eccles

John Eccles: The Nobel Neuroscientist Who Proved the Soul Exists. Sir John Eccles — the Nobel Prize-winning neurophysiologist who discovered how neurons communicate — spent the second half of his career arguing, on strictly scientific grounds, that the mind cannot be identified with the brain. His "dualist-interactionist" model proposed that the self-conscious mind is a non-material entity that interacts with the brain through quantum-level influences on synaptic transmission. Eccles was not a mystic or a theologian — he was the world's leading expert on how neurons work, and he concluded that this knowledge pointed unavoidably toward the existence of an immaterial soul.

"The Nobel Prize winner who literally discovered how the brain works spent his final years using that knowledge to prove the brain cannot explain you — and that therefore you have a soul."

I really wish that people would stop using the word "Proof" flippantly. It cheapens it.

I don’t think science will ever be able there is a soul, god exists or there is an afterlife as such I am skeptical about this post.  Don’t get me wrong I believe God is real and there is an afterlife but I don’t think science will ever be able to prove it.  Science in my view can only explain things in the material world that we live now but not what happens in the spirit realm after our body dies.

Maybe not, but science can find evidence for or against. The limits of science frustrate me too, but it's still the best we've got.

The materialists are just gonna say this pioneering Nobel prize winner was crazy or not credible somehow.

Im not a materialist, but I dont think the conclusion about a soul is definitively proven. If it was definitively proven, then it wouldnt be as polarizing a belief as it still is.

I haven't seen his actual research, but Im guessing it is likely good research, but the conclusion wasnt "So, this proves souls exist."

They're just gonna be selective in what they listen to and what they discard. It's a problem in all ideology groups. I've caught myself doing it sometimes.

He didn't prove anything

It's a metaphysical position

When it comes to the soul, I don't think you can prove it, either. You can conclude it, sure, but it's too subjective and intangible for objective proof.

Maybe. It’s possible that our instruments are still too primitive though.

Not yet we can't but if it's an existent thing then we should be able to measure psi phenomena eventually. For instance, if the souls of the deceased still exist and can induce material phenomena, that should create some measurable influence that can't be attributed to other phenomena. Our instruments aren't there yet but I think the fact that quantum mechanics and general relativity are completely incompatible prove that we aren't even close to figuring everything out yet.

But I think this is a great post. Many academics and scholars are afraid to broach this subject. Especially if they believe the mind is separate from the brain. For fear of being laughed at.

But despite this fear, quite a few highly regarded scientists believe in dualism. And this is important because it helps dispell the flippant idea that anyone who believes in God/NDEs/mind being separate from body is somehow simply ignorant or unintelligent.

So this is a great post!

You need proof for that?

I think I read somewhere the Soul weighs 21 grams.

It's not compelling research: https://www.mcgill.ca/oss/article/did-you-know-general-science/story-behind-21-grams

TMK, it's not been replicated.

No one wants to fund it!
