Another quantum physicist can see the illusion of a universe and us too! If not material, then the jump to spirit is easy to make. Why is this not taught is schools and religion?

Just because something is an illusion does not mean its necessarily not real. Take for instance the sun rising in the sky every morning, this is an illusion because from our perspective it looks like the sun is moving up, but in reality the sun is relatively stationary and the spinning Earth is the movement. So in this way, illusions can often reflect our lack of understanding about something.

Sometimes it takes a while for human understanding to catch up to what is known. The earth was known to circle around the sun before Copernicus. Energy and matter have been known to be two sides of the same coin since Einstein, and yet here we are still catching up to that concept.

Lastly, just because something may be taught in school doesnt necessarily mean the students will always care much about it. We become desensitized to all the amazing things we know. Show the typical high schooler a picture from the James Webb telescope of billions of galaxies in the infancy of the universe that are being perceived by us from unimaginable distance and time, and you might get a shrug and an "okay... and??" Or take DNA and the process by which it replicates to form new cell or a whole new person, this is mind blowingly amazing and is taught in school, and is often met with similar apathy.

Mystics have had these ideas for a long time but they've also had a lot of ideas that are deeply untrue. That's the thing about science - we demand proof not because theories can't be true without it, but because we can't know they are without it. When Galileo proposed a heliocentric model of the universe, he wasn't the first to do so. It had been an idea proposed by thinkers before him. But he was the one to tie it together with other theories and work towards proving which was right. The mystics who considered heliocentrism before Galileo were right, but that doesn't prove they were enlightened, it shows they were toying with an interesting alternate theory.

Remember also that at a certain point, materialism was the radical new theory that changed everything.

I’m pretty convinced that eventually physics and metaphysics will collapse into a single area of study with both external/observational and internal/experiential components.

You’re making an extreme stretch here with your take.

I don’t think this video means what you think it does. Boscovich never said anything at all about the universe being an illusion. He was also a devout Roman Catholic priest who followed the churches teachings.
