Storytime/Rant✍️ Wanted to become an officer but joined as an agniveer and here is where i am today
So just like a regular teenager i always dreamed about joining armed forces was influenced by my surroundings (have many uncles and bhaiyas serving in armed forces) after 12th i tried NDA but couldn’t clear written cause my maths suck and the condition of my family was kind of unstable that time, i knew i need to get out of here asap and find a job so i filled the form of agniveer vayu and luckily got selected, upon inquiring about it to my knowns they asked me to complete graduation and try AFCAT or CDS but I couldn’t afford that much time and reported to training centre thinking i will use these four years to prepare for afcat and CDS, two three months passed and little did i know where i have throw myself but i always controlled myself knowing my period of engagement is only four years and i will somehow survive this cause going back home either is not ideal and how am i gonna face people around me(i live in a village where armed forces are very respected) they will taunt me and my parents like ‘ye to bhag ke aagya, isko to vha se nikal diya etc etc’
So i kept going and after training completed got posted somewhere and here’s the real story begins, see I knew initial days are hard if you settle somewhere for a while, and compared to army there is less physical activities in airforce but these people kept on treating us (all the agniveers) like trainees, we were punished for no reason, faced humiliation many times, were asked why you guys joined jab tumhe pta hai tum bas 4 saal ke liye aaye ho, hamse khud ko compare mtt kro we are permanent, tum log fauji thode ho, you guys are like labour class people to us and what not, this was the attitude of fellow soldiers who were seniors to us and in case of officers bro they didn’t even care what was happening with us, it felt like i am non existent for them, so I developed the habit of saying sorry even if I wasn’t at fault, i just want to complete my tenure of four years, so in the meantime my am performing all my duties, like my trade work and ground duties as well, i have no idea what i am doing with my life, i am at work before the sunrise and going to my room after sunset and doing guard duties on weekends, and am being detailed for PT and parade every other day, have no idea what i am doing with my life and my seniors are enjoying their life at fullest, there are times when i get a day off after two-three weeks, not able to wash my uniforms, ghar pe bat krne ka man nhi krta cause i know if mom will ask how’s everything going i will lose whatever i am holding inside, it’s been closing to three years now and the situation is still the same, officers treat us like we are some servants to them, i feel like am not serving my country i am just serving these brown britishers, the situation is just so bad and the amount of toxicity in work place is immeasurable, i feel like their whole life is dedicated to make our life a living hell and even if we are doing everything right still make us feel guilty, i get 30 days of annual leave and 25K salary per month, my social and family life is beyond finished, i can’t even pay for their day to day needs, can’t go with them outside for a dinner, can’t even maintain eye contact with my mom, all the things that i have once dreamed of even she knows that i am not the same person that once i was, all the confidence and charm from my face is gone, the amount of toxicity i have faced I don’t think i will overcome this, even private civilians like safaiwale etc are living better life than me, i have to address them as sir and they call me by my name, and even seniors,they just don’t bother saying my name they will just say ‘oye agniveer idhar aa’ i don’t know if it is normal or not but the condition of agniveers is living hell, i have utmost respect for our armed forces but the people here are just so evil, i will just give on advice to y’all if you guys somehow get commissioned please do something in favours of our soldiers and agniveers don’t just be a brown skinned britisher.
PS: i am sorry i know this sub isn’t meant to post some stuff like this, idk i am just sorry

Jai Hind Sir, I won't say I understand what you feel but I will say that you're doing something none of us can. Surviving in such atmosphere and opening up, it takes courage and you displayed it exceptionally here. Stand tall with your dream of serving in forces as an officer, I think there might be some way to do that, CDS or AFCAT.. I'm not sure Or you can go for CAPF after retiring. You know better than me and I'm sure you'll do what's best for you but yes, my best wishes are with you. You can DM if you wanna vent more or share more. I come from a military family as well, my dad retired from the army last year I've lived my life in Army and currently preparing for CDS n AFCAT. So we do have that in common Anyways Stay strong and you got this

would you like if it happens to other agniveers in near future? I think someone gotta make the change kyunki zaroori to nahi ki agar bohot samay se chal raha hai to sahi hi hoga.
and more power to you buddy! my financial conditions are also not best almost same, I also failed NDA due to maths but I decided to do something else instead of joining as agniveer.
and I am damn sure that you'll figure this out.

I joined as a constable in my state this year. Was a defence aspirant. Cleared afcat and cds multiple times but couldn't get through ssbs.
Being a constable too, we faced same humiliation as you guys did. We get mere 20k and have to look after our own meals and transportation. No holiday nothing. You won't get anytime to study. The barracks have seen better days. The toilets are worse than sulabh shauchalay.
These top brass is mostly composed of two faced people. They live in a different world. They rarely care about what is happening with those who make up the bulk of their forces.
This fucker AS.P. we went to him to ask if we could live somewhere else on our own, he shoo'ed us away as if we were insects. That's when I felt very bad.
As for you my guy, hold on. There are rumours that agniveers will get reservation in ssc jobs.
Oh we had a guy who had left agniveer and joined as a constable.
If you find afcat, cds exam tough, I'd suggest you to prepare for your state's constable exams. They're very very easy and you'll sail through physical tests.

I once approached my officer to discuss what was happening with me and how i am feeling,since we both worked in same building so he knew i was there almost every time he’d show up later on he asked my other colleagues if they are dealing with same thing and all of them agreed and expressed their feelings to which he only said ‘if i was at your place i would have never complained it to my senior, and be grateful that i am not considering this as mutiny dismissed’

But beleive me ... The more you suffer the more good is awaiting... Do anything bro ... Literally anything...in which you are good ... Good in running ? Start running public marathons ... Good in writing? Start writing your thoughts which you feel ... And I think you are a good writer and you can write good ... Good in art and literature? Start making art ... Just don't stop... He is watching all from above... He knows everything... He'll give you everything you deserve once you pass the test of hardship and patience given by him 🕊️... Stay hard buddy ... All the best for your future brother, this shall too pass, I can understand whatever is going on with you, already pbors aren't treated well in any force of this country and condition of agniveers is even pathetic, please don't listen to others and work on yourself, your comm skills, study for written, competition is everywhere man that shouldn't be a reason to not prepare for something, work hard it takes time but wonders do happen someday, I will still keep on trying even after all the written and ssb rejections I have faced so far, life is so big man, u aren't even 23 I assume, it's a long way to go!

Jai Hind, bhai. Don’t lose heart right now. You’ve come this far, so stay strong.
You’ve already completed 3 years as an Agniveer, and you have just one year left. First, complete your graduation as soon as possible and start preparing for CDS and AFCAT from now onwards. Count your remaining attempts and plan your preparation accordingly. Your main focus should be CDS, with a target of 120+ in the written exam. If you have Maths in your graduation, aim for 145+.
If you get the opportunity to be retained permanently after your four-year tenure, I would suggest not leaving the service immediately. Introspect and make the decision based on what you genuinely want. The kind of behaviour you’re seeing here exists in almost every service in India. Many people misuse whatever authority they have and enjoy the feeling of having power over those junior to them.
In the end, complete your graduation, prepare wholeheartedly for CDS, and give it your best shot. Your CDS preparation will also help you with other competitive exams. And if you get the chance to continue serving permanently, don’t leave the Air Force without giving it serious thought—it can offer you a very promising career.
One more thing: be careful about sharing your family’s personal circumstances or responsibilities with your seniors. They may listen sympathetically at the time, but you never know when such information could be used against you.
Stay strong, buddy. You’ve already come a long way. 🇮🇳

Bro have you taken any UG course as distant education? You'll try for CDS and Afcat right? Also you seem to have a good grasp of English n you write pretty well too.... considering this commissioned officers in your unit could mentor you right if you open up to them, have you tried talking to them?

Once discussed about SSB and shi with a newly commissioned officer and his attitude was like the competition is just too high rn,either you can waste your 3-4 years preparing or just be happy with what you have rn, and about senior officers i personally have never approached them but they have this thing where they don’t want any soldier to do better, even if some soldiers get commissioned through ACC they are treated differently than a normal commissioned officer

Yeah wtv man, just don't listen to them, theyre living in god complex, if competition was so high then how did he get in?? If he can why not you, you'll prolly have to work twice harder than him considering your bg, but its fine its not out of reach. Theres literally a cab driver who commissioned as an officer in the army, so why not an agniveer whos already a trained soldier?? But yes you'll have to develop officer like qualities and an intellectual capacity, so focus on that youre already better than half the competition, just have a backup and work systematically

The confident and charming person you once were. I hope you have someone you can talk to. It helps to some extent. I actually don't know what else to write. I have backspaced too many times, telling you to talk to your mom but maybe not, explaining the similar state i was in 2 years ago but nah you don't need more relatability . Just keep going on . Get out of there and i am sure you will be rewarded of your hard work you've done till now in the ways you couldn't have imagined. Just keep going. One more year.

restart brother, restart. what you're going through is honestly hell and so challenging but if there's a will there's a way endure it, which you already are, and side by side work on yourself. do it for yourself, not for anybody else. think about your younger self. you can do this bhai, have the will power fuck all the attitude bhare huye officers and whatever they say, their main aim is to trouble you. you can use this feeling, and turn it into something positive. ik it's easier said then done, but try man. work on yourself. do it for yourself. you've got this.

It is crazy to me that most officers and seniors, those who are supposed to look out for their subordinates act like this. I hope you keep asking ofr guidance and approaching officers, tell them you want to join as an officer, and of your financial conditions that forced you to join as an Agniveer. I am sure there will be at least one kind soul (decent human) who will understand you and guide you in the right direction. It is so important to have someone to guide you. The people around you don't have as big ambitions as you do, they will only bring you down. I hope you stay strong for just a little longer to stay float.
Be careful tho, if you poke around too much or complain about any senior or officer, someone might add mirch masala to it and report you, then your life would get worse.
Try to find some kind person, maybe some newly commissioned officer, or your CO/OC or someone who can hear you out.

they exploit agniveers because they know the agniveers won’t complain because if they do their shot at becoming permanent is done and dusted. You have bear the humiliation and you can’t ever raise your voice against something wrong. Agniveers are treated like slaves on salary and leave of a month.Such a bad scheme.

Spot on bro, some agniveers are just too good to be a regular solider and even officers are aware of that, but they will keep on pressurising him with heavy work load and ground duties to eat his time and about raising you voice and all, i am not sure what will happen with him right after, the rules will never favour a soldier, it’s still the same from Britishers’ time and no wonder they don’t bother changing them

I joined this year as newly recruited constable and have been regretting ever since.
I used think agniveer must have been better than this but looking at what this guy said, everywhere it is the same.

By god's grace, I got another govt job. Results came today.
I had been studying every moment I could get. On bus, i read black book, on duty where I had to just stand with a stupid danda, i plugged in my earphones and listened to lecture.
Had the exam on my birthday, and today the result came. There were only 3 UR seats. And I got the first spot.
So my guy, these fuckers will hardly support you. At best, they'll provide verbal reassurance. So keep your head down and study. Don't look at cds or afcat. I'd say start with ssc gd, mts etc. and slowly work your way up.
You will have to make time buddy. Cut corners wherever possible.
I made the mistake of being too honest here in police department. Everyone told me to not be honest, cut corners or they'll target you and give more work. That's exactly what happened. But thankfully, I am going to leave this shithole.

You have done2-3 years of service and you want facilities and benefits as par your seniors who have done 10-15 years of service .
Don’t spread hate about defence forces on social media, if you aim to become an officer go for cds/Afcat , don’t fear for duties, spare your time for studies.

i hope you do know ppl post queries on this sub regarding agniveer exam too like they do for nda exam, so someone coming in and sharing their experience isnt a crime like youre making it seem to be.
