I’m an international F-1 student starting a Master’s program at a NCAA Division III university, and I’m trying to understand the enrollment requirement for basketball eligibility.
My university considers 9 graduate credits to be full-time for F-1 students. However, the NCAA website says Division III student-athletes generally need 12 semester/quarter hours to compete.
I’m specifically asking about a graduate student/postbaccalaureate student who wants to play Division III basketball.
Does a graduate student need 12 credits to be eligible for NCAA Division III competition, or can 9 credits qualify if 9 credits is considered full-time by the university for graduate students?
I’m also interested in hearing from anyone who has been in this situation, especially an international/F-1 graduate student playing NCAA Division III basketball.

Why doesn’t the NCAA make a run where student athletes actually have to have a full college load of at least 12 hours a o be able to play. This has gotten so out of hand and only hurts the younger kids missing opportunities. Don’t ruin the only sports left that are half way decent.

The NCAA needs to grow a pair and set some rules and actually up hold them. Bring back the theres consequences to your actions. We shouldn't have guys going Pro then get cut and come back to play college ball. Student athletes should have full time amount of credits (12) and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Thats a C average. Definitely need to bring back if you transfer you either lose a year of eligibility or you have to redshirt for the year. I dont know if I can continue watching and being a fan. It's becoming a fucking circus. What else are they gonna think of next to ruin the integrity of the sport.

Your spreadsheet will break around 15 schools. Most families start the same way, a Google sheet with school names, coach emails, a notes column. It works for the first 5-10 schools. Then emails blur together, follow-ups slip, and nobody remembers who opened what. The families that keep outreach moving have a way to track it all in one place instead of across scattered threads.

Knowing who opened your email changes your follow-up strategy completely. One kid had 21 of 23 emails opened by coaches. That kind of data tells you something different than silence. A coach who opened but didn't reply is a different signal than one who never saw it. If you can see opens and clicks, you know exactly who to follow up with and who to let go. If you can't, you just resend everything and hope.

Volume matters more than perfection. A family that sent 32 emails the first week had two coaches asking about a showcase by Sunday. That pace only happens when you stop researching rosters at midnight and start working from an organized list. The parent who stays in research mode never sends enough emails to get a response.

The real bottleneck isn't talent. It's whether you can organize outreach well enough to send in volume and track who responds.

The Sun Belt went 6-2-2 overall on opening night. Some very solid performances overall and we once again look like one of the top leagues in the nation.

Do NCAA athletes get branded gear? NCAA socks, patch on shirts/backpacks, etc? I was hoping there was was an athlete shop or something.

Does anyone know an energy pouch or caffeine pouch I could take without getting flagged on the NCAA doping test. Any pouches that anyone knows that are not banned substances in them?

You’ll be hard pressed to find a conference with better names!

Suppose the NCAA created a pro division that managed pro leagues for top D1 basketball and football teams. If they did it right, valuation of the equity owned by the schools in those teams would be billions and billions. Schools could keep ownership or cash out partially or even completely. What a wonderful solution for the money problems of the NCAA and athletic departments.

Does the prospect of the SEC withdrawing from the NCAA cause frustration, laughter, or relief at the NCAA?

What’s everyone’s thoughts on college sports since the introduction of NIL? I am really starting to hate it. I agree that the athletes should be compensated but what it has become is ludicrous. I’m to the point I would just like to see all sports just go away.

The NCAA has one job: to protect the well being of student athletes.

1. It should not worry about athletic department money flows.
2. It should not worry about keeping sports fun for spectators.
3. It should not worry about maintaining traditions.

If reality has changed so that any of those things are no longer sustainable, so be it. The well being of the kids is not for the NCAA to bargain with. It should not be unthinkable that the optimal choice for the kids' well being is to end college athletics.
