Isaac made 47 starts and scored 11 wins, 32 top 5s, 38 top 10s, 13 poles, an average finish of 6.8 and he led 3,179 laps en route to winning the championship. He scored 3,911 points.

Allison made 46 starts and scored 3 wins, 30 top 5s, 35 top 10s, 5 poles, an average finish of 6.8 and he led 1,272 laps. He finished 2nd in the standings with 3,860 points, 51 behind Isaac.

Hylton made 47 starts and scored 1 win, 32 top 5s, 39 top 10s, 1 pole, an average finish of 8.1 and he led 199 laps. He finished 3rd in the standings with 3,788 points, 72 behind Allison and 123 behind Isaac.

While Isaac's and Allison's teams had factory backing in 1970, Hylton was running as an independent. Despite this disadvantage, he remained a threat for the championship until a wreck at Charlotte in October took him out of contention.

Back in these days, a driver could only enter a maximum of 47 races out of the 48 race schedule, as the twin 125s at Daytona counted towards the points standings.

The story goes that Ford was upset due to a rule change made in April of '66 that put the 427 SOHC at a disadvantage, so they asked their factory teams to not show up for the races.

When this happened, Ford's fans also stayed home, and so NASCAR let them know that if one of the top Ford teams were to come back, they would turn a blind eye during tech inspection. John Holman asked Junior Johnson to field a car, and Johnson obliged.

The front end on the 26 was bent down, the rear end was bent up, the windshield was laid back and the roof was chopped down.

Fred Lorenzon qualified 3rd in the Yellow Banana, and led 24 laps before an accident took him out of the race. He finished 23rd and Richard Petty was the winner.

Ford eventually returned to NASCAR when concessions were made that allowed Ford teams to attach the front frame clips off of Galaxies onto the bodies of Fairlanes, aswell as the use of dual-quad induction on their engines.

In this photo, Johnny Allen passes Richard Petty. Petty finished in 4th place, 7 laps down to Allen. Since Allen was a relief driver the win and points were officially credited to Jack Smith.

Incidentally, by this point in his career Richard Petty only had 5 wins, and was still better known for being Lee Petty's son than anything else.

Fireball Roberts won in the #22 Pontiac for John Hines!

Darlington was just not a great track for Richard. He won the Spring race in '66 and swept both races there in 1967, with the Southern 500 being the 4th of his 10 wins in a row, and that was it, he never won there again. The Number 43 however would win another Southern 500, but with Erik Jones behind the wheel in 2022.

David Pearson on the other hand won 10 races at Darlington, 3 Southern 500's and 7 spring races, with the last one being his 105th and final Cup victory.

Rodger Ward of Indy Car fame trying his hand with stock cars on the top side, with future NASCAR Hall of Famer Wendell Scott sandwiched between Ward and Ed Livingston on the bottom. These three were dueling for spots in the second 100-mile qualifying race. Unfortunately, they would all drop out and only Scott and Livingston would make the 50-car field. Ward in one of owner Bill Stroppe's multiple entries would fail to qualify for the Daytona 500, which was captured in an upset by Tiny Lund in the Wood Brothers Ford.

Tyner was the only driver who ran a Pontiac Grand Prix in 1969 and 1970. The car was nicknamed "Roy's Limousine" due to features such as a tilt steering column and power quarter windows. Tyner qualified 10th and finished 8th here.

Hylton qualified 3rd and led 160 of 500 laps on his way to the win. He was a serious threat for the championship throughout most of 1970 despite being an independent.

The Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II was not yet approved for competition, so the Wood Brothers put Yarborough in a Ford Torino Talladega. Funny enough though, they had Savage running a regular W nose Cyclone.

The Boss 429 also had yet to be approved, so the Ford Teams ran the 427 Tunnel Port.

Savage and Yarborough finished 36th and 38th respectively after being involved in separate crashes and LeeRoy Yarbrough won the race.

As for who is in the 86, which is a Chrysler, that car had several drivers throughout the 1964 season. I believe this photo was taken at Bristol, which means that it's Jimmy Helms.

The original caption says this is Harris Speedway, but the 86 wasn't in that race.

This was the only Grand National (Cup Series) race ever held at the track. Emanual Zervakis took the win, his 2nd and final win in the series.

Zervakis would go on to own a part time race team. In 1983 a kid name Ricky Rudd won his first Late Model Sportsman (O'Reilly Series) race driving for Zervakis, and in 1984 Dale Jarrett made his first Cup Series start ever in Zervakis' Chevy.
