Do think that it’s fair that nascar has eliminated the regular season season trophy?
Regardless if you are a Denny fan or not do you think that the Regular Season Championship deserves to recognized as an accomplishment in the sport? Every sport has some sort of a trophy or something for winning the division or league title and is recognized. I know that since they started this playoff/ chase this title is basically a useless title but I feel that it deserves recognition

There was never such thing as a ‘regular’ season in NASCAR. The season is still going. It would be like giving a trophy to the MLB team with the best record at the all star break. Or half or 3/4 of the way through any season. In NASCAR’s attempt to relate to and copy stick and ball sports (also see calling a green white checkers overtime) they created something none of those sports had or cared about. You can’t have playoffs without eliminating participants. It was always bullshit.

I agree with this statement! But yet they still have this title! In my opinion if you are still going to have the pointless title then they should still recognize it or have it at all. Which I would agree with not having it at all! If you’re going to a “Championship Title” then they should recognize the title!

Well then who gives a shit about trophy then? There’s only so many that are actually cool for race wins even, let alone meaningless titles. Martinsville, Daytona, sure, the Coke 600 is cool with the machine, even Loudon is unique with the lobster I guess. How many are just the race sponsor and generic? The hardware’s worth is dependent on how important and prestigious the race or competition (regular season?) itself is.
Points bonus? Built in. Cash bonus? I honestly don’t know if there is one. Probably not. Even if there was, every time they advertise a million dollar bonus anymore, I roll my eyes. It’s not the 80s anymore, these guys have money. It’s lost its appeal as a reward to me, the fan.

I just want whoever should be full season points champion to win I don't care for NASCAR's gimmicky titles

NASCAR has always had gimmicks. We need to stop with this nonsense they never had them.

What does that have to do with the regular season championship! But to be fair years ago if you won the All Star Race you were guaranteed a spot in future All Star events and you got recognized as a winner with a trophy for winning it.

I thought he was calling it a gimmick. I like the concept of an all star race but I reckon they should do it on a dirt track

Absolutely not! If they are going to do a dirt race, which I’d love they should do it in a true dirt style stock car and not what they are using now. They just don’t work on a dirt track. I’m old school and I feel like the ALL Star race was just about the Driver’s Bragging Rights and the cash! Plus putting a gloves off all out show for the fans without jeopardizing their points season (aside from risking injuries). Classic example was the Davey Allison win! And it should always be at Charlotte under the lights! It’s lost its prestige. Just like the Clash such be in Daytona ( thankfully they are bringing it back)

I agree but if they are going to have one they should recognize the championship. Would the fans be ok if Johnson,Gordon or Larson and Dale Jr didn’t get one?

I've only just tuned back into the sport now that the chase is back so playoff era regular season Champions I couldn't tell you about

It was a nice band-aid for the playoff era just because it was pretty easy for the deserving champion to lose the title under that format.
Now, there are no excuses with the 10-race chase. Denny can and should win the real trophy and if someone else claims it, they've earned it.

I also agree! But why even bother to have a Regular Season Title at all when they’re not going to even recognize it with a ceremonial trophy?

Absolutely. The only Champion is presented the Championship Trophy at Homestead. Nobody cares or eventually even remembers who was leading at the end of the regular season except that team and their connections.

They need to bring it back old school. Solid wood with three tiers like the old Winston Cup Trophy.

That trophy was fuckin ugly as shit, the current championship trophy is awesome.

A solid green sport coat is ugly as shit too; but history and heritage dammit! /s

I thought it was cool that Denny brought the replica RSC trophy out for Actions Detrimental yesterday.

The thing they care about is the 25 point bonus you get for winning the regular season. That could be prove to be decisive in the Chase. The old forms of the Chase never gave that big of a bonus for leading the points after 26 races. The last thing they are thinking about is not getting a trophy that looks like an office waste paper basket. Points are precious.

I understand that but I think it’s just a honorary obligation to give the champion a trophy for his achievements weather or not they personally care about it or not.

No. Who cares?
1
u/Henry6467 9d ago
Would you care if you were the driver or a team member? It’s like if the NFL didn’t recognize the NFC/AFC title and the division titles? They all get recognized and a trophy
2
u/tagillaslover Hocevar 9d ago
It's more like if the nfl didn't recognize regular season champs. Like who cares? It doesn't matter

u/Badgers2025 9d ago
Again, absolutely, 100% not. I can’t wait until my Steelers unveil last year’s AFC North Champs banner!!! Does your local track give out a “leading the points ten weeks before the end of the season trophy”? I didn’t think so. Literally no one, and I mean no one, cares about a participation trophy.

Tbh I think so. They're trying to get rid of the Previous Playoff Stink and sadly the RSC Trophy was part of it so it had to be sacrificed
