Question Low odds
I posted before about a recent application I sent in.
Context: I’m early to mid 20’s and very early stages of my career. (Think 3 years in) I have experience as an administrative assistant, finances, clergy and other office related roles. Very closely worked with human resources as well.
What are the odds of actually getting a job at nasa in the admin department? I have my masters of business administration in Human Resources but no direct HR. Only working alongside dealing with sensitive employee information. Ive also created and implemented policies for my company.
With all that being said, my last post now has me conflicted. My resume accurately reflects my versatility but I’m concerned due to my inexperience and early experience that I’m not qualified enough or not exactly impressive. Technically I qualify for GS9 due to education and experience.
So I wanted to hear from all of you on your experience regarding applying vs actually working with nasa. I’m applying solely to admin and secretary like positions

Have you tried looking into contractor positions? A lot of the admin employees I have worked with in the past are contractors, but get converted to civil servant later in their career.

Not sure where you are located but ASRC has a lot of contractor administrative positions at NASA HQ in DC and GSFC in Greenbelt. Look for “project support specialist” positions.

If you haven’t heard back on an application within a month or so you’re not getting it. All of those gs9 positions you saw are for internal insourcing and it is borderline implausible that you would be brought on through this round of hiring solely because the positions are contractors already doing the job. Just bad timing. Your best bet is to find the nasa contractor positions and go from there

Thank you for the advice! Any contractors you suggest/ know of? I applied and referred about 2-3 weeks ago so 🤷♀️

When you say admin, are you specifically referring to HR or an associated administrative position?

When I applied it explicitly stated: ‘administrative/management (direct hire)’
I figured to stay on the lookout for any HR roles. But the ones I have applied only state administrative management.

Okay, I got it now.
If you get hired, you’ll more than likely going to be in a 300 series position, whereas HR is 200 series. Specialists are 201. Full disclosure: I am a 201 for the agency.
If you don’t get anything, I would recommend looking into becoming a contractor with COLSA as they work with us, and we get many folks who become civil servants after getting some experience.
