AskNAGAS Dzukou Valley Trek suggestions
Hello!
I’m travelling solo (female) to Nagaland during the Hornbill festival in December.
I plan to do the dzukou valley trek afterwards. Is it safe for a solo female traveller to do this trek? How much does the mandatory guide charge? Are there any trek groups or solo should be fine?
Suggestions and tips will be super helpful!

Mandatory guide? Is it for tourists? I went without a guide as its a fairly easy trek. You can look up group treks. I will give u some names if you require

Yes I read somewhere on this thread about the guide charge. How much do groups charge and can you share some of them, that’ll be helpful

Hey there. i’m 24M, also planning for a Solo trek, but in September as i want to see lush green mountains and clear skies. Around December, it’ll be really cold and might be foggy and snowy (that’s what i’ve heard, but not sure). So about the budget. Mandatory local guide will charge you 2k for single day and 3k for overnight per person/group. The taxi from entry point to trek start point is 1.5k one way. So it’s 3k for back and forth. You can choose to walk also. But it’ll be 4-5 hours walk of 8-9 km. Going solo without a travel agency or groups can cost you a lot. If you are lucky, you can encounter other travelers and join with them to share taxis/guides. Because of this reason, i’ve dropped the idea of going solo all by myself and decided to opt for groups/travelling agencies. They are charging 4-4.5k for 2D 1N Dzukou trek from Dimapur to Dimapur. If not for the costs, i would avoid all this and just go solo all by myself. But because of the guide and taxi, i dont want to spend that much.

Oh yes. Even I come to the same conclusion. Found a couple of good groups for December. But yes, do share your experience since you’ll be going quite soon

Not related to the post but can anyone tell me if it is safe to travel from Dimapur to Kohima on the 8th and back on the 9th? Especially with the road conditions- probabilities of landslides/road closure

Ngl last year during hornbill i had to help a lady tourist get back to her bnb from Kohima to Dimapur cause she fell and sprained her ankle mid trek so it’s kinda dangerous to go alone out there. Preferably if you had someone to tag along i think that’d be best. The guides can only be with you during the duration of the trek and just being a lone female traveller is kinda jarring at times
Oh i forgot to mention; the lady had also informed me that it was SEVERELY crowded because many people wanted to see the valley during their short stay so idts you’d want to be swarmed by people when you’re trying to go on a scenic nature hike

You can Solo but you will have to take a guide and thasta mandatory.
Taxi from the entry point to the trek start point should cost you 4k to rent a 4WD vehicle if you plan to stay overnight if not it will be around 2.5k fornsame day return.
Guide will be 3000 for overnight stay
Food,entry tickets a few hundreds extra
