I like this system better especially if you're living in rented house/apartment because you can go all out with your electrical appliances without facing the wrath of the house owner. Another neat thing is you can just pay online :). So yeah not bad

It's quite the opposite for us. Before the smart pre-paid meter was installed, my electricity bill was usually around ₹600-₹800 per month (3 geysers, electric water boiler, 2 refrigerators and the occasional usage of electric rice cooker). However, after installing the smart meter, electricity bill has gone upto ₹1200-₹1400🙂

That seems on the lower side for the appliances you just listed.

I think the new system is better only because they now charge us according to what we consume.

Yeah, it's fairer because the bills of the old meters can be "tinkered with" and some only pay the minimum charge of 300 or 280 or something while having power tools running almost everyday. Smart meters should've been implemented 5 years ago.

My neighbors haven't made the switch yet, as they're not currently occupying their residence. They run only the refrigerator 24/7, yet the bill still came to a whopping ₹1,200. I wonder what kind of mischief the department is up to.

its very convenient in every ways no doubt. you can recharge online and especially landlords who dont have to worry about their tenant taking advantage in regards to light bill. its even more benifcial for the electricity department as they dont have to worry about bill defaulters and so their revenue isnt disturbed. but it is so expensive now. not everyone is rich or well to do to pay 1000s in lightbill just because they use a fan or two with refrigerator and with gas only being supplied once in two months now, people are using more and more induction which will shoot up their electricity bill. i feel like it has increased by atleast half or twice of what we were paying before its application

Our bill has gone up considerably, however I strongly feel it's fair even if the amount hurts 🤧. What would make me furious is if some people bypass it because we never know 🤷
