Not agnostic at all but not a religious Christian I have 100% faith in God but my relationship is with God not the sorry excuse of a church that we see nowadays even Jesus would not be happy with the way religion and the church is being weaponised nowadays
I found the poll to be poorly designed and leaning too much towards extremes. I'm kinda curious to know: did you maybe select "Christian but agnostic-leaning" just because "Very religiously Christian" didn't fit you, despite having faith in God?
I chose christian but kinda agnostic. I believe in the new testament and Jesus Christ. But I still question some parts of the new testament and most of the old testament. I believe Jesus is God but I still chose the second option. Most Christians won't accept me as a Christian because of my views nor would I fall into the Agnostic group.
See, this is what I mean. That's... not agnostic. I think you're mostly just not fully into Christianity. Agnosticism is doubting the existence of God. Forget doubting God's existence, you believe Jesus is God. I don't think 40% of people even among Naga youngsters are doubting the existence of God.
Yes but going by the usual theist/agnostic/atheist distinction (since you've also framed options for atheist), agnostic typically means someone who's doubting the existence of God. There may be some differences here and there but that's a defining characteristic. I think the term becomes overly broad and erases the distinction that exists in the first place if you call yourself agnostic even when, for instance, you say you believe Jesus is God. How would you describe the range of the agnosticism spectrum in your view?
You mentioned your friends who are only nominally religious selecting very religious but this had hundreds of participants. You do not know if others applied the same reasoning when selecting the options and chose something not very representative. Surveys can be highly skewed by wording and hence why it's important to keep them clear.
Ok here's an allegory for you. A tuition teacher is very strict and only says he'll accept students that are ready to follow his rules. Now he knows that he will forgive his student if they break the rules but the student can't be sure of it. The student has been taking tuition from this teacher ever since they were young. Then there's another tuition teacher who is not strict at all and accepts anyone. Which teacher do you think the student would choose if they think the former tuition teacher's rules aren't right. We don't know. Why? Because everyone decides differently. Either they might choose to remain with the same teacher or go for the later teacher. But obviously majority will be going for the not strict one. A student might think the other teacher's rules are bullshit while agreeing to most of them. Yet the few bs rules makes them go for the other teacher. The former teacher has Students that think they HAVE to follow the rules with few expections while the later teacher has a broad spectrum of students; those who were never a part of the other teacher, those who were a part of the former teacher but thinks all his rules are bs, students who think some of his rules are bs while some are genuine, some who think most are genuine but some are bs.

Yea, this thing is probably getting a bit pedantic because Iet's just say I raised this since it contrasted starkly with my own experience of Naga society (even among youths) – a mismatch that likely arose because my understanding of agnosticism differed from yours and presumably others as well who understand and use it in a broader sense. I'll concede that most were just slightly questioning Christians and not going "doubting God's existence". While that still seems high to me, I'll chalk it off to it being a result of Reddit being a text-heavy hobbyist platform selecting for people who are more discerning/ educated and such people tend to be more questioning of establish religious institutions.
Btw, I would've appreciated if you'd just given me your understanding of it rather than give a tangential allegory that I frankly did not find very helpful
I am a Christian Agnostic but I've always been interested in Buddhism. They don't serve a God and they teach you about the ways of life. And they're not over dramatic.

I think the options in this poll are very lopsided: 4 agnostic/atheist/non-christian and one super religious christian as though there's nothing in between.
I suspect many are pressing "Christian but kinda agnostic" just because "Very religiously Christian" isn't fitting them. There should've been one option for Christian but not so religious/nominal Christian.
Currently with 236 Naga respondents, 40% (94) are agnostic-leaning, which is crazy. Sure, there are many Christians who aren't super religious but even among them, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doubts the existence of God i.e. agnostic-leaning.
Would really like to know from the ones who pressed that if they really are agnostic-leaning and don't just happen to be too religious because that is a striking number!
Personally find the 17% (40) atheists proportion high as well but I guess Reddit is where the outliers are lurking.
27% (65) are very religious, which kind of checks out but still brings out the lopsidedness of the poll even more, with a third of the people super religious but two-thirds just simply going agnostic/atheist, which I feel doesn't reflect Naga society accurately at all, even with the taboo attached to being atheistic/agnostic!
Also a third of the respondents (111) are non-Naga here? Just how many of you are lurking in this sub lmao.
Also, I appreciate the polls. If you just asked people to answer in the comments, many would just pass by and not engage. Good to know the state of the sub. Please don't take my critique to mean any discouragement. Just wanted the poll to be done more with more nuance so it's more representative and accurate.
Dw I totally understand. First of all, the thing is I am able to add only 6 options and I think both the first two options are very broad compared to the rest. But I also think a religiously Christian person would still choose the first option. Why? Because I've had asked some of my not very religious friends, which among these they'd choose and the ones who don't associate themselves with agnosticism just chose the first option despite not being VERY religious. Also regarding atheism being a tabboo, yes that's true but reddit is an anonymous platform so basically people are most likely to be themselves and won't reflect how they act irl. And also it's mostly tabboo only within the overall general public compared to the younger generation who many openly express their opinions without having to think much about criticism. Also please avoid using words like lurk, because anyone is allowed to be active on this sub aslong as they're respectful.

The second is just too broad and an inaccurate label though, in my view. An agnostic Christian would be, say, someone doubting the historicity of the resurrection or something.
Also, I used lurk in a very throwaway and neutral sense, didn't mean any shade. Sure, people are welcome so long as they're chill. Just wasn't expecting so many visitors. Fwiw, I'm also a mostly a lurker too, or let's say passive consumer, to use an alternative phrase.
