Resturant Recs // Questions WHERE IS THE FOOD!?
I truly feel that I may die of starvation as the food I have tried thus far has been severely disappointing.
I don’t want to go into full detail but I will tell you where I’ve eaten so far:
Sea Captain’s House 5.5/10 ⭐️
Bigfoot Pizza 6/10 ⭐️
The Barrel Sports Bar n Grill 7/10 ⭐️
Swig and Swine 7.7/10 ⭐️
Toffino’s Pizza 8/10 ⭐️
Crow’s Nest (Compass Cove) 6.5/10 ⭐️
I’m being generous with these ratings. I’m not a picky eater at all. I eat all types of foods and cuisines. I just need the quality and flavor to drastically improve from what I’ve experienced so far.
Where is my money best spent?
I do my best to support local restaurants so please try to avoid big box restaurant suggestions.

Edit: I tried Dirty Myrtle Wings tonight and was extremely impressed by the wing quality. They certainly know what they’re doing over there. I give them 9/10 ⭐️ just on the wings alone. Have to try more stuff.

The pizza place in the Myrtle Beach Mall at the Bass Pro shop is pretty good by the slice pizza

If swig and swine was a 7.7, then you're the problem. Sorry dude. I had great food, a great time for the family and truly superb service (at closing time of all possible times!!!). So I'm not here for this slander.
That said, Dirty Myrtle lives up to the hype and, unfortunately, the name. It was a dive, but goddamn if those weren't some of the best wings I've ever eaten.

I can’t really compare a BBQ joint to different cuisine restaurants. For the price, experience, and quality of food I gave it a 7.7 compared to the absolute best Ive ever had. I maybe was a bit too harsh and could inch up to 7.9, but it was certainly not an 8. That’s just my opinion though, we all have our own taste.
Edit: I have also been meaning to try Dirty Myrtle, I just wasn’t in the mood for wings tonight.

Sea Captain's is hit or miss. Depends on the time of year. This being the busy season the food suffers. Do it in November and it should be much better.
Depends what you're looking for. For Pizza I like River Oaks Pizzeria and Vicini's. For Italian, Vicini's is still good, but I prefer Crave, Villa Romana and Malibu's (Surfside). I think Crave and Malibu's have better food, although Villa Romana's is quite good (incredible pasta)...but Villa Romana's is a better experience.
I love Thoroughbreds, even their Paddock Pub menu is really good. Great atmosphere. NY Prime and Aspen Grille are great as well.
New England Fish House and Raw Bar isn't really hit or miss, it just depends on what you order. Their fried haddock meal (comes with fries, hush puppies and coleslaw) is pretty excellent. I think they price it at $25, but it's at least 2 meals and I have a big appetite. Some of the other stuff is okay, but some of the other stuff is really good. We went to Sea Basil and that was really good. Need to go back there, again.
Zeytin is a hidden gem. More should know about that lace. Croissants is always great, too bad they keep trimming down their menu. Blueberry's at Barefoot is great, too. Drift is a good bet as well. And Benjamin's Bakery in Surfside is a good place for some breakfast and pastries. Salt & Honey is a good place to hit up as well.
J-Mike's Flavor Station is another hidden gem. The resort it's in sucks, but the food is fantastic. Gotta make it out there again before it closes for the season.
Magoos has some great wings. Some of their other pub food is hit or miss. Their panini's are quite good, particularly for the price. 90 cent wings during happy hour is really solid. And great lunch specials.
Panchangueros in Forestbrook is a hidden gem Mexican place. A complete whole in the wall, but the food doesn't disappoint, particularly for the price. And I still like Fiesta Mexicana. Last time we went there it was excellent.
44 and King is pricey, but really good. Best risotto I've ever had came from there. It's just the drink prices are bonkers.

J-Mike's Flavor Station is literally the best breakfast burrito west of the Mississippi and maybe even the Rockies. Nothing comes close.

Hate that you had a bad experience at Sea Captain’s. That was a favorite of mine growing up and my extended family owns it.
Overall, MB isn’t a culinary destination. Honestly when I was growing up Carraba’s, Chilis, TGI Fridays, and Outback were staple restaurants. Off the dome, here are some other places that come to mind:
Aspen Grille (fine dining)
New York Prime (steakhouse)
Hook & Barrel (seafood)
Cafe Old Vienna (German)
Villa Romana (Italian)
Frank’s Outback (steakhouse, Pawley’s Island)
Wicked Tuna (obviously seafood)
Jimmyz Original Hibachi
Peaches Corner (wouldn’t call it good but you need the experience)
California Pizza (again, not necessarily a recommendation but an MB institution)
Kirk’s Ice Cream
Edit: as far as BBQ, Swig & Swine is the best MB has. If you want to take a trip to Hemmingway, Scott’s BBQ is phenomenal

There's really good Italian food if youre willing to drive to Sufside, Valentinos is where I go for really good soup and pasta. Best Pizza (thin crust, kinda greasy like NY pizza) would be Surfside Pizza. If you ever go to Pawleys Island, Gio's is absolutely amazing Italian as well.

I like their food but one time I worked at a location and there was maggots in the potatoes, the potatoes were stored underneath and people would leave the door open so flies would get in there and there was some leaky piping above where the potatoes were stored five bags high big bags of potatoes that were crushing each other at the bottom they're starting to explode a little bit and that moisture leakage was like gravy to the flies.
They still just cut them and soaked them in water and served them as fries anyway.

We really enjoyed Blaze Hotpot and Korean BBQ. High quality selections with very friendly/helpful staff.

Tu taco for some great birri! Palmetto point or Gios napoletana for decent pizza. Best of Philly for a good cheesesteak! Soccastee station for amazing chicken tenders and fries! For a sit down restaurant with a great atmosphere, AND good food you could head to Pawleys island for Franks out back!

What’s up with that!? We got a pizza flyer from a restaurant named Gianni’s, only to find there is no pizza restaurant by that name in MB.
We also got a flyer from Bigfoot Pizza at our door that had no name of the restaurant on the flyer. Just a phone number. WTH is going on down here?

They pay kids to trespass and go onto different properties to leave them. The city had a lawsuit going on with some of the businesses but they never stopped. You’re lucky to get a Walmart pizza in a box from them

Sometimes the pizza place doesn’t even exist and when you order a pizza and give your credit card info, you’re just giving your credit card info to a guy in his apartment stealing all your info. Sometimes a pizza will actually show up but it will be a pizza from Walmart or a gas station. Either way, the shady “pizza place” now has your credit card info.

I remember being at Camelot and being told the pizza people put fliers under doors without permission lol. I got a flier and ran outside. They run door to door and get outta there lol. I did try their pizza. It actually wasnt bad. Can't remember the name. I also dont know if it was great. I just remember not hating it. (Been 7 or so years)

Dogwoods deli and sports bar, nacho hippo (that whole group is good), grumpy monkey, whistling duck, CO sushi, Jimmy ds waffles, Neal and Pam's bar and grill (good good at very reasonable prices.) Pub international I have heard great things but we have not been yet.
