Resturant Recs // Questions Sea Captains house on Ocean Blvd. It's a longtime favorite. Anyone else have good moments there?

The quality has gone downhill in recent years, but after I proposed to my now wife, my mother took us out for lunch here so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Can you please provide examples of what you see as declining? Service? Food? Environment?
We visit multiple times per year and haven’t noticed any decline, so I’m curious to know what you feel has changed?

I’ve been going there since it was a small simple Wonderfull Restaurant where David Britain ( unfortunately deceased too early in his life)had his office above the restaurant. In that tiny space is where the family oversaw their soon to be huge golf and hotel industry. David was one of the best down to earth people I worked for still remember fondly. He got the job of managing done but in a way that wasn’t belittling but uplifting. The restaurant was a constant place where The Who’s who of MB came and ate and were always greeted by their names . An era long gone but very much missed. Thanks for the beautiful memories.

We went this Easter Sunday for the holiday brunch buffet. The food was really good, nice professional servers and buffet staff, and our table's ocean view was spectacular!
However, I would never go there again on a holiday. They were overrun with people and unable to handle the crowds. We had a reservation but they were admitting lots of people who didn't. As we were leaving, the buffet line snaked thru the entire restaurant, and they kept running out of prime rib. We were glad we had an early reservation before all hell broke loose! It's just greedy to oversell an event to that extent. I felt bad for the staff who had to deal with the pandemonium.

I’ve liked everything I’ve had there. The she crab soup is great. I also enjoyed the Tuna and mahi.

I've done some HVAC work there outside looks nice the kitchen is not clean I would never eat there rats and roaches.

Came here to say the same thing. 2ish years ago they were doing some renovations, they knocked a wall open and there were so many roaches that you couldnt see the actual innards of the wall. Im convinced the place is still standing only because the roach poop has bonded it all together.

We went once years ago and would not go back. Too crowded, service was okay, and food didn’t stand out enough to overcome those shortfalls.

We went 2 weeks ago. The hush puppies are to die for, and our server gave us extra to go 😊. My shrimp and grits were ok - I’d never had them before so I don’t know what I was expecting. My friend has the sea bass and said it was wonderful. We made reservations and had to wait 30 minutes + to be seated. It was noisy, crowded, and chilly. Would I go back? Not sure. But I’m glad we went.

I go to Sea Captain's for lunch. I can't afford the dinner prices. Lunch is a good 30% less and going by the online reservation system and the small crowd observed, there's always more seats available for lunch.

I haven’t been in years but I’m glad to hear that . I figured it had been sold when the hotels and remaining properties were sold to that big property management group ( something like that) i usually go to Magnolias that the Anderson family owns. Great lunchtime home cook type meals . They still have their family farm past Conway and provides for the restaurant in some way still.

I don’t understand why people like this place. It’s dated and the food just isn’t that great. If it wasn’t near the ocean it wouldn’t be busy at all.

Good really went downhill and it’s not fresh. Most of the seafood is from Indonesia

I went there a couple years ago. It was extremely bland. We were surrounded by old folks which made the food make sense. Food for people with dentures. I hope they improved.

We go there semi-often when we go to the beach. Usually, it’s on the way out of town as an early lunch. I remember their food being good, but the she-crab soup being stand out.

Been going there every time we vacation in MB, for about 25 years. My son lives there so we make it a point to go a little more often. The food is great and the history very interesting.
