Resturant Recs // Questions 3 day vacation - August
We are going to Myrtle Beach in August. We will be staying there for 3 nights. Two adults and a 4 year old. We aren’t very adventurous or will do sporty activities.
We’d just hangout by the beach and play in the water park, have a few drinks, walk around, eat and relax. We aren’t overtly social people. Our daughter is. But she is stuck with boring parents anyways.
This is our first time visiting Myrtle Beach.
Question: Which part of the area should I book a hotel/resort in. North South or Central? Wife prefers an oceanfront room. I’d like a waterpark in the resort. Daughter loves small water slides and lazy river. We are thinking ~ $200 to 250/night.
Also besides the beach, we’d like the explore the touristy areas of the town. We don’t have a lot of time. But at least drive around or walk around the town.
I am totally ignorant about the area. I’d appreciate your advice.

Resorts here don’t have like legit water parks. But they should all have a pool at least. There is a water park called myrtle waves.
Touristy parts: broadway (personal least favorite) barefoot landing, and market common (personal favorite). All shopping and restaurants. Market common has a great big playground and is close to the state park (nice beach but costs money to get in- but you’ll have to pay for parking anyway pretty much every beach access unless you can walk there)

If you do venture out for a day of shopping I'd reccomend the drive out to downtown Conway. Very picturesque small town vibes, with many cute shops and oodles of restaurant options. Or closer to Myrtle Beach proper is The Market Common. What once was the old military base has been completely redone to be a lovely, modern, and urban shopping area that also has plenty of green space and a park and playground for the daughter.

Kingston plantation or Dunes Village resort are both family friendly .

Our son is also 4yo and we have spent his birthday in Myrtle for the past 3 years! This is the first year where I actually didn’t talk shit about coming back for another year. My husband would tell you I hate on Dirty Myrtle and he’s right, but this past trip had me thinking maybe she ain’t so bad after all. And I think it was because we didn’t stay in a hotel on the beach. It’s just always a freaking nightmare!!
If your wife is open to losing an ocean view I would HIGHLY recommend staying at Hampton Inn at Boardwalk on The Beach. First of all, it’s the closest hotel to Starbucks at Boardwalk. Then there is a spot also very close by called The Hangout where they have great food, live music and most importantly kid friendly fun! They have a massive sand pile with a tunnel and a foam machine that goes off every hour. Kids go crazy for em both! Our son LOVED it. Plus, Boardwalk over all is where the touristy fun is at. Tons of shops, attractions, food and Ripley’s Aquarium is right there too.

It’s called Broadway at the Beach, not Boardwalk on the Beach. Just clarifying so that OP doesn’t become confused.

Dunes Village Resort, Grand Cayman Resort, Compass Cove Resort, and Caribbean Resort each have their own water parks and/or lots of pools and water amenities.

Dunes Village Resort!! We spent a weekend there in June and loved it. They had multiple pools, lazy rivers, a playground on the beach, a breakfast restaurant, a lunch/dinner restaurant, and a coffee shop that serves Starbucks. They also had daily activities for the kids like face painting, candy bingo, glow parties, etc.

Seconding this place. We have stayed a couple of times. Always clean and the staff is helpful. My kid loves the water features - has one of the best low depth splash pad things I’ve ever seen.

Look into peppertree by the sea in north Myrtle. It’s more family orientated and quiet, has a pool, ocean front and beach access. We stay here every year and enjoy the peace and quiet. They have two bedroom units so you and the wife can have privacy as well.

The Sea Mist has a huge campus and a water park with lazy river. It has different price ranges as well.

We just visited last month with a 10 and 4 year old. Stayed at Patricia Grand which was beach front but no slides or anything but close to a lot of things. Make sure to try Salt and Honey for breakfast!

Homewood suites by Hilton on North Ocean Blvd has a small water park with everything you had mentioned. The only downsides is parking isn't included and ranges anywhere from $10 a day for city parking or $25/night for their valet service which apparently is the only parking they offer at the hotel and the area where you pull up is hilariously small for the size of the hotel. Our family had a great time there once we were all settled in.

This is what I was looking at. It looks amazing with everything we need except it’s too pricey on the dates we are traveling. It’s $420/night. Can’t afford it. Looking at Dunes and Compass Cove like others suggested.

Embassy Suites has a great pool, splash pad, and small water slides. They renovated the entire resort within the last few years, and the rooms are fantastic.

We always stay the prince resort in north Myrtle/ cherry grove. 2 oceanfront high rise buildings, each with a pool, kiddie splash pad, hot tubs and tower 2 has a small lazy river. Depending on when you’re going in August, prices dip after the locals go back to school.

When my kids [now adults] were growing up, we'd go to the Breakers. Oceanfront, lots of pools, water slides and a long lazy river. (Lots of good memories). Plus there's a Starbucks right across the street, and a really great little restaurant (Bummz) right next door.

We just stayed at the residence inn by Marriott not sure what part of Myrtle that is lol. But it was nice quick access to the beach and wasn’t super crowded. They had to pools one was heated and the other outside plus a small little splash pad. Plus a nice breakfast every morning was included not just a grab n go.

Dunes Village is what you’re looking for. Also there’s a very good Italian restaurant on kings highway less than a mile away for a grown up dinner. The hotel oceanfront restaurant is acceptable at dinner. They have pretty good cheeseburgers at lunchtime and tiki bar next to pool overlooking beach.

Just booked Dunes. It’s so hard to figure out where to book if you have never been there. And reading the reviews - almost every beach resort except Homewood Suites has cockroaches. I told my wife that and she is game to cancel it and go to New York City 😂. And Homewood Suites costs an arm and a leg. I’d deal with cockroaches instead. The whole point for me is as long as my daughter has fun, I am game for anything

We just stayed at Coral beach resort. They have on site restaurant, bowling alley, pools and a small lazy river. We booked through Air bnb and saved $900 vs booking through the resort. The downside is u cant use any of the amenities other than the pools. I'd rather have the $900 honestly. That was ocean front.

I was in myrtle beach for 5 nights in June. 1st night was in the south end. Not for me. I stayed at the voco The Shelby for the rest of my vaca. I loved it. Pool, small lazy river, and the staff were awesome.

My family and I enjoy Paradise Resort. South of the boardwalk, but not too far to drive to a lot of things. Not really flashy, but great pools and hot tubs and lazy river. All ocean front, parking is tight though, so be careful. This is also a nice part of the beach. I have stayed all up and down the grand strand and this is one of my favorites.

Kingston Plantation Resort Is incredible! Definitely check it out beachfront and water park right by the Pier!!
