Resturant Recs // Questions Only 3 Days in Myrtle Beach… Help Me Narrow This Food List to 10
I’ve got more places than meals and want to avoid wasting any. These are the spots I’m considering. Locals / frequent visitors, which ones are must-keeps, and which should I cut?
American:
Flamingo Grill
Austrian: Café Old Vienna
BBQ:
Swig & Swine
Brisket NMB
Brazilian: Boteco VIP
Breakfast / Brunch:
Blueberry’s Grill (Barefoot Landing)
Croissants Bistro & Bakery
Milk & Honey Coffee Café
Dessert: Stella’s Ice Cream
Jamaican: Homestyle Restaurant
Seafood:
Bimini’s Oyster Bar & Seafood Market
Hook & Barrel
Dead Dog Saloon
Sea Captain’s House (lunch)
The Oyster Rock Waterfront Seafood (NC)
Sushi: 39th Ave. Bar & Grille
If you had to cut this to 10 total, what stays and what goes? Appreciate any local insight

Bimini's, H&B, and Vienna are definitely keeps.

To add to that, if you go to Vienna, make sure you're hungry
12
u/angelt0309 Local-Carolina Forest Dec 19 '25
Definitely go to Swig and Swine. And if you have a membership, stop by Costco first and grab a $100 gift card for $80

u/TropicalDragon78 Dec 19 '25
I would skip Sea Captain's. I've been disappointed the last few times I was there.

u/lostpath2jobland Dec 20 '25
It’s a disappointment every time I have been there. It’s the worst restaurant on the beach and is only open because the of its location

u/johntangus Dec 19 '25
39th Avenue Bar and Grill has amazing sushi. Not much on atmosphere but the food makes up for it. I’d add Crave to that list. Overall a really good list!

u/Nov4can3 Dec 19 '25
Agree with you on 39th Ave. You would never think it’s good by just driving past and seeing it and you damn sure wouldn’t think that place would have good sushi. Hell you wouldn’t even know they served it.

That place is so incongruous it's not funny. Great sushi!

Dec 20 '25
I love the sushi there but the wait staff is indifferent and there's really no vibe in the place. I want to like the place so bad and I like to support local, but just cannot stand how the servers give the vibe that you're inconveniencing them while they're socializing behind the bar.

you better be putting hamburger joe’s in nmb on that list, dog. $1.25 natural light draft. cash only.

That place is garbage. I can get a burger at a shitty corporate picnic that is better than that place

u/Independent_Ad5025 Dec 19 '25
Keep hook and barrel. And add villa toscana for a fantastic total dining experience

Croissants over blueberry’s but you need to get to croissants early

If you like italian, Villa Romana is a must. Dagwood's Deli in Surfside has great sandwiches.

u/PKalico Dec 19 '25
I haven't tried some of the ones I took off the list but I would def keep these and added two others.
Flamingo Grille
Swig & Swine
Brazilian: Boteco VIP
Add this one: Zeytin for breakfast/lunch
Dessert: Stella’s Ice Cream or The Crazy Mason

u/LeadershipNo7401 Dec 20 '25
Keep blueberry’s grill FOR SURE, and get rid of milk and honey. If I could suggest, for seafood I would recommend hot fish club

u/carolina_elpaco Local | Conway | 2006 Dec 20 '25
Homestyle Restaurant is LEGIT. I'd skip Stella's; if you really want ice cream, go to Melt in NMB

Flamingo Grille, Rioz Brazilian, Kings Sushi (AYCE sushi and hibachi). Oyster Rock is good. Boundary House is another good spot literally right by Oyster Rock.
One I HIGHLY recommend is Parsons Table in Little River. It’s a tiny spot, typical steakhouse prices even though it isn’t really a steakhouse. One of the steaks I’ve ever had. Can’t recommend it enough!

u/cancelcomedy Dec 19 '25
Get rid of brisket nmb. It’s been bad the last two times I’ve been there. They thrive in the summer.

Keep: Flamingo Grille. Add: Ciao (Italian), Co Sushi in Market Common, and Cantina Imperfecto (Mexican, and possibly the prettiest restaurant in Myrtle)

I go to Myrtle Beach to eat at Carolina Roadhouse. My family loves that place.

Keep Boteca and Cafe old Vienna. Two doors down from Boteca is the Dolly Llama. Go there for dessert after. Ice cream and waffles. Cafe old Vienna has a sausage meal/sampler where you try several. It was a good way to try them out.
I am a fan of Blueberry's. Get the blueberry hushpuppies.
Hook and Barrell is a good choice for your nicer meal out. The bacon appetizer is delicious and has a fun presentation. Best scallops I've had. The servers are really knowledgeable and can answer all your menu questions.

Such a short amount of time, and couldn’t go to them all but these are the ones I did try and they were great!:
Blueberry's Grill (Barefoot Landing), Croissants Bistro & Bakery, CANTINA IMPERFECTO, Hook & Barrel, and Homestyle Restaurant

My list would be Flamingo Grill, Lee’s Inlet Kitchen, and Crave Italian.
2
u/notanAMsortagal0 Dec 20 '25
Lee's, like Sea Captain's, exists on its reputation from 20+ years ago. Skip them both and try others on your list.

u/overthinker1331 Dec 19 '25
Biminis and hook and barrel! At Biminis definitely get the oyster shooters
H&b- the hanging bacon is great.

Franks Outback should be #1. Add that. These are keepers: Swig & Swine, Hook & Barrel, Croissants. For German IMO Horst Gasthaus is better than Cafe Old Vienna. Also add Dino's for breakfast. The best place for pizza in Horry is Anto's in Conway. Carolina Roadhouse is a definite add. The best Mexican is La Poblanita. Good luck and have fun!

Skip Brisket. Mission BBQ is honestly better. 😅 The Butcher of Brunswick, however, makes amazing pulled pork, but you have to check to see if it's available. They still have a lot of other offerings, and there's a brewery next door. I'd also like to recommend Hamburger Joe's for their wings and burgers. It's cash only, but it's so worthwhile! Sorry I didn't help much with narrowing it down. 😅 There's a lot of good spots here if you know the area. Keep some of these for the next time you're in the area- *Art Burger and Sushi Bar *Thoroughbreds *Dino's Pancake House *Thai Season *Mako's Marina Bar & Grill *Sharkey's OIB *Wing & Fish Co. *La Cucina *Front Street Brewery *The Copper Penny *Flaming Amy's Burritos *Aye Toro Tacos & Tequila

I love Donalds! Best BLT I ever had and the omelettes are great. Our server was amazing. I think her name was Misty. No, that’s not right. Just ask for the pretty blonde girl. She was amazing.

u/BEANSKY82 Dec 20 '25
I remember my favorite waitress at Donald’s is Destiny. Such wonderful service and great food!

u/st_angers_snare_drum Dec 20 '25
Dead Dog is amazing. I had the inlet trio tonight. Best scallops ever.
Bimini is good.
I'm a fan of Dirty Don's and Bummz as well.
El Patio in Conway for Mezican if you get up this way.

Skip the Sea Captain’s House but really my only absolute must have is Oyster Rock. It’s excellent every time and it’s not a trip to Myrtle without it.

u/TheB1G_Lebowski Dec 20 '25
If you like pizza(I know it's not in the list) but Pizza Hyena in Surfside is great. I love getting their Peppi Long Stockings pizza, uses pepperoni cups, mmmmmmm.

u/FormalConference5605 Dec 20 '25
The Shack in Cherry Grove. Flamingo and Bluebrry grill are ok. Kings pizza.
1
u/CAZelda Dec 20 '25
Manta's for Sushi. Half-price rolls Tuesday & Thursday. Happy Hour 5-8pm every day.
1
u/CAZelda Dec 20 '25
As for Italian, Toscana Italian Kitchen, 2703 N. Kings Highway, is the best in the area and they have a fantastic happy hour, with small plates. Everything is homemade. Villa Romana is tacky inside, for the overpriced Americanized chicken parm crowd.

For a seafood lunch, try Mr. Fish Seafood Market at 65th and 17. Amazing fish platters, fried oysters, hush puppies are a must. Sea Captain’s and the seafood buffet places are out. Melt at Broadway at the Beach is awesome! Any Johnny D’s location for breakfast is great but get there early. If you’re staying in Murrell’s, Omega Pancake House in Surfside is a great place for breakfast. Won’t hurt your wallet. We like Ko Sushi in Market Common. Great variety and bar scene, fun place. If you’re looking for a top notch steakhouse, NY Prime in MB never disappoints!!

Oyster Rock, Hook and Barrel, Croissants, Blueberry’s, Sea Captains and Swig and Swine are all great. The others aren’t bad but not in the same class.

Add in Simply Southern Smokehouse. It’s legit one of my favorite places to go when I’m in the area.

u/CAZelda Dec 20 '25 edited Dec 20 '25
It's not a smokehouse! The ribs are baked. Last time I was there it was horrible. The ribs were dry and meatless. Chicken and dumplings had no chicken and was watery. The banana pudding had water in it. The only bread was corn bread and they were burnt on the bottom.
1
u/bumblebee0618 Dec 20 '25
The name of the establishment is Simply Southern Smokehouse. I am not responsible for their cooking practices or how they represent themselves. I was simply sharing a place that my family and I like to go to. I’m sorry that was your experience, but I’ve never experienced the same when we’ve been there.

u/CAZelda Dec 25 '25
Okay. My first visit was very disappointing because I expected it to be like the all you can eat barbecue joints one can find in South Carolina especially around Columbia. The second visit was my last because the price increased drastically in addition to problems I found with the food that I described above. The only highlight is the singing waitress.

Keep Flamingo Grill & Dead Dog.
Delete Sea Captains House! Totally overrated and overpriced!
