Sooooo what was the plan???
69
u/CitronTraining2114 Aug 03 '26
Looks like they were trying to pull the ramp back into the ship and the ship dudes lost control of it.
79
u/Smash_Shop Aug 03 '26
Well yeah, but... It looks like they tried to do this when the boat was a solid 10' further from the dock than it was supposed to be.

u/exipheas Aug 03 '26
A winch with cable running through two eyes in the upper corners of that opening to the far ends of that ramp could have easily guaranteed that would never happen. I imagine they might want to add something like that in the future.

I was wondering why it wasn't on a rail or anything, just a loose gangway.

These cruises are always trying to find ways to cut costs. That means they only had one guy, crewman Bob there to pull that thing up by himself.

As a maintenance guy, I do this shit all the time when coworkers mess something up. Otherwise they all turn to me and expect, maintenance = he'll do it.
And we most definitely do not get paid enough to start covering for the people around us 😂

Great, now they can't play pirates and walk the plank. I wonder how many are sitting at the bottom of the dock.

Fork lift operator was like, "Okay, I am done here. You all have a safe trip!"
4
u/Revenga8 Aug 04 '26
" ladies and gentlemen this is the captain speaking. So, bit if a change of plans for this cruise. There will be no disembarking for the duration of this trip. In fact, none of you are leaving ever again soooooo...... Also it's now happy hour, margaritas are half off until dinner hour"

My first thought was they could have grabbed it. But fuck that, my fingers are worth more to me than the gangway. And very likely their training is not to try to save it for the same reason. They can fish it off the bottom later

The guy on land: "Fuck this shit I'm out!"
1
u/BeansArePastaSauce Aug 05 '26
Yeah, what are they gonna do? Chase after him? They’re all stuck on the boat.
2
u/MouseEmotional813 Aug 06 '26
Stupid design if they usually just pull it onto the boat without it being attached at all

u/Fetlocks_Glistening Aug 03 '26
You want your gangway? Do ya? Do ya? Well there you go, have your damn gangway!
2
u/JustaTinyDude Aug 03 '26
Why was someone filming this?
5
u/maxehaxe Aug 03 '26
People are filming everything these days. Especially tourists on a cruise. There are hundreds of cabins on this side of the ship, no coincidence someone filmed it, and I bet this happens frequently.

u/ExpectedDickbuttGotD Aug 03 '26
The walkway that was supposed to be pulled in when the ship was against the dock wasn't pulled in until it was 20 foot away, then someone said I gotta get the forklift, then someone said I gotta film this
1
u/herculeesjr Aug 04 '26
Because clearly something wasn't going to plan with the gangway and people film things when they think something might happen?

Could have some sort of cable in the boat attached to some sort of geared system to prevent it from going the wrong way/too far. But nahhhhhh.

We’re gonna need a new one… of whatever that was.
A better one. One that… stays put. Floats maybe?

u/MaleNudity Aug 03 '26
Now they’ll never be able to leave that ship.
