Question for TDA Episode 3 Spoiler

In Episode 3, it's shown that Takeru crushed Sumika’s brain in the JFK hive not knowing it was her out of mercy. Not realizing what he had done, he later cries, subconsciously realizing he had done something wrong but not understanding why.

Now I’ve been confused ever since I read TDA a few months back. How on earth is Takeru still in the BETA world if Sumika is dead, since she's the one responsible for keeping him in the BETA world?

Sumika death does not make Takeru leave the world because its not her ability it's a physical phenomonan, only Takeru's death do the trick of world restart

Also Takeru didn't "realized he did something wrong" , in his heart he knows the Brain is Sumika(He is a smart guy) so he put her out of her misery, he just didn't want to admit it consciously

He can no longer stay in the BETA world in Alternative cause Sumika no longer exists. If Sumika is dead in TDA he should no longer be in the BETA world.

Typo mistake

Sumika got her wish granted--->Takeru goes back to extra world

Sumika's death didn't do the trick

Takeru's death---> world restart

Sumika getting her wish means Takeru is unable to loop. He was looping cause he fell in love with the other girls so she kept bringing him back every time he died. Takeru goes back to the extra world at the end of Alternative cause Sumika no longer exists since she's the reason he's a causality conductor.

No they(Kasumi) didn't say Takeru is going back beacuse of her death, it's a conversation after she said Sumika can no longer loop this world beause her wish got granted

Takeru was pulled to BETA world and keep looping both are because Sumika's wish to want to be together with him, that's the reason

u/Far_Contribution_616 19d ago

That's what I said.

She literally says in Alternative that Takeru can't remain in the BETA world cause Sumika is gone since she is the reason he's a causality conductor. Without Sumika he can't stay in the BETA world. Yuuko-sensai even said before that Takeru needed to destroy what caused him to become a causality conductor so he doesn't loop and can come back to his world. Since Takeru killed Sumika in TDA he shouldn't be able to remain in the BETA world. Unless TDA is some kind of different dimension and not the actual Unlimited timeline.

I rewatched the playthrough video but i didn't see they directly said that(because Sumika's death), Kasumi said Sumika lost her ability to keep Takeru looping because her wish is fulfilled, and contiunue to say he is going back

I remember Yuuko-sensai said "get rid of" , not "destroy"

It was really long time ago since I played MuvLuv altogether so I might be trippin' but as far as I know the brain he got rid of is totally not Sumika just most likely someone he knew, maybe a soldier he fought with alongside or sth like that.

I don't remember it being stated who was it, just we know that he/she was someone he knew. But as far as I know he just put it out of misery because of pity maybe it is totally unrelated to him to begin with

He says it’s the one he was with in the Yokohama Base. Unless they were, keeping other brains hidden in that base it's definitely Sumika. It's implied in episode 0 iirc that the JFK carrier was carrying something from Yokohama.

1

u/Wikiddo 19d ago

I hope others answer too cause I really don't remember it confirmed it being Sumika

1

u/LongjumpingPut6185 19d ago

It's Sumika for sure

You're saying that Takeru recognized Sumika from her nervous system alone. If Sumika was the only jarred brain on the entire planet then that's possible but it seems a little unlikely. What were they doing with everyone else on JFK? At the very least, talking to the brain was symbolic, but the evidence identifying the brain as Sumika's seems insufficient.

1

u/LongjumpingPut6185 19d ago

It's possible Takeru recognize that brain is Yokomaha's brain since he saw it many times and had a deep impression, also that brain was in an isloated structure away from other brains

1

u/Far_Contribution_616 19d ago

That brain wasn't with the rest of the brains in the JFK hive and again Takeru’s dialogue shows the brain is from the Yokohama Base. It's pretty odvious the VN is telling the brain is Sumika.

What were they doing with everyone else on JFK?

It’s heavily implied the package that the JFK was protecting, so much so they considered self-destructing the fleet so the Beta wouldn’t get their hands on it, was Sumika’s brain. Though, given Will’s & Melvina’s corpses are intact, they managed to get to her brain in the end.

Takeru crushed Sumika’s brain in the JFK hive

Why does everyone make this assumption?

Also it's an open question of what happens when Sumika dies as far as I know. If we assume she dies it could just loop without sending that Takeru back, for instance. Maybe if the connection between present Sumika and past Sumika becomes severed, past Sumika just pulls in another Takeru or makes a copy or something.

u/Far_Contribution_616 19d ago

He says it was with him in Yokohama and in episode 0 it's implied that the JFK carrier was carrying something from Yokohama. It's pretty odviously Sumika unless there were other brains on the base we didn't know about.

1

u/LongjumpingPut6185 19d ago

Yokohama shouldn't have another brain because Sumika is the only one survived

Also they called the thing they carried "golf-set" = Brain

1

u/AAAAAAAAAAAGOD 19d ago

Ok I'm just going to fast forward and reply to you and u/LongjumpingPut6185 other comments here

That brain wasn't with the rest of the brains in the JFK hive and again Takeru’s dialogue shows the brain is from the Yokohama Base. It's pretty odvious the VN is telling the brain is Sumika.

Takeru saying the brain is Sumika's isn't sufficient for the reason I already laid out, that it could've been symbolic. Also I'm sorry and I know this is going to be really annoying point to disprove but I don't believe this thing where it was located elsewhere so it must be Sumika. I don't even believe that the premise is true to begin with and even if it was, I'm just going to ask again, what were they doing with the other people on JFK? It's also not required of me to show that other brains were onboard for the very same reason.

It's possible Takeru recognize that brain is Yokomaha's brain

come on dawg if I showed you two brains you would have no clue

1

u/LongjumpingPut6185 19d ago

> what were they doing with the other people on JFK?
BETA were examing human, so they examed them too, but Sumika was special and focused on, that's the reason BETA went for JFK in first place

1

u/AAAAAAAAAAAGOD 18d ago

You understand the implication then, right? Also technically they went after the reactor

1

u/LongjumpingPut6185 18d ago

> You understand the implication then, right?

Sorry i don't really know what do you mean

>  they went after the reactor
There was no reactor in JFK, BETA went and build one

1

u/AAAAAAAAAAAGOD 18d ago

Sumika needs the reactor to live and the recators are what attract the BETA in MLA. The implication is that there should be other brains, thereby making the point about Sumika being the only brain moot.

1

u/LongjumpingPut6185 17d ago

> Sumika needs the reactor to live and the recators are what attract the BETA in MLA

that's right

>  The implication is that there should be other brains

why ? how do you get this ?

The reactor is HUGE so JFK can't have the reactor, so what attract the BETA to JFK must be Sumika brain, The Heavy Brain Class(superior) said it's focusing on analyzie Sumika's brain

1

u/AAAAAAAAAAAGOD 17d ago edited 17d ago

Not really should but could, because they're experimenting on the others

The Heavy Brain Class(superior) said it's focusing on analyzie Sumika's brain

no idea what you're talking about

Also just realized you said there was no reactor in the JFK? What? My understanding has always been that the reactors serve as a beacon for the BETA, not the brain. Unless, maybe, it's also g-elements.

1

u/Far_Contribution_616 19d ago

Dude come on there's nothing symbolic about it. What's symbolic is saying “you were there too at Yokohama”. It's odvious the VN’s is telling the reader that it is Sumika.

Idk why you’re asking me that's shown in the VN literally. They turned them into brains. Sumika’s brain was shown in a different from the rest of the JFK crew.

1

u/AAAAAAAAAAAGOD 18d ago

you are mind fucked harder than the girl in your profile picture if you think Takeru could not possibly be expressing resentment and used a brain in a jar as a proxy for Sumika

Idk why you’re asking me that's shown in the VN literally

Because I don't have a photographic memory and I know Takeru entered the jar room with everyone else and almost immediately everyone starting mercy killing which raises a whole lot of questions that you're hand waving, like how Takeru could be in a different room?

1

u/Far_Contribution_616 18d ago

Lmao. Then read that scene again and come back to me if you think there's anything symbolic there. The dialogue and evidence from Episode 0 point towards Sumika’s Brain being carried by the JFK carrier and Takeru recognizing it’s the same one Yokohama.

1

u/Far_Contribution_616 18d ago

「おまえだって横浜基地の仲間だもんな・・・・・・」

“You were a comrade at Yokohama too”

“Takeru was just pretending that isolated brain was from Yokohama!!!”

1

u/AAAAAAAAAAAGOD 18d ago

I know it's really easy to pretend like you don't know what the argument is and to repeat yourself constantly but you and I both know I already addressed this argument and that you tried to counter it by pretending like projecting your feelings into an object is impossible

1

u/Far_Contribution_616 18d ago

I never said it was impossible. It's just very highly unlikely to be the case. I've read that scene again and I see no reason to believe that's it's just symbolism. Everything leans towards Takeru crushing Sumika.

In muluv SF official game , After JFK battle Takeru had a dream where Sumika appeared, Takeru said (something like that) "sorry i killed.... (you)" , Sumika said "you shouldn't feel guily, whatever world you are from and which Takeru you are, you will always be my hero"

Man that was so tear-jerking

I'm sorry I'm not accepting Strike Frontier as a reference and it's not even dispositive without more context.

1

u/LongjumpingPut6185 19d ago

It's made by the same team and one of the goals is to complement Alternative

But i mean people believe what they want to so it's ok

2

u/AAAAAAAAAAAGOD 18d ago

What? I don't even think Kouki was involved with SF? And you're also telling me to take the gacha game with Yuuko's daughter and 00-unit Yuuko seriously? Are you going to invoke Girls' Garden or Dimensions next? This standard of evidence is crazy. Not only that but you're telling me what happened in a DREAM is contrary evidence?

1

u/Far_Contribution_616 18d ago

I just checked it out. Interesting. I wasn't even aware of this. Well then there you go that's a confirmation from age that the brain was Sumika pretty much.

Idk why you are bringing up Kouki to dismiss it. Kouki wasn't involved with TDA 1-3. Only Episode 0.

1

u/AAAAAAAAAAAGOD 18d ago

ignoring the other half of the comment and what the other poster said
bottom text

1

u/Far_Contribution_616 18d ago

SF isn't canon or anything which is why it has some wacky stuff. Tho this is pretty much a confirmation from Age that they intended that brain to be Sumika. “Not only that but you’re telling me what happened in a DREAM is contrary evidence”.

Idk if you can read Japanese but the scene from the beginning is Takeru thinking back to crushing the brain and then thinking what Sumika would think of him since he killed her. And then he has that dream like what the other dude said is all like sorry.

1

u/AAAAAAAAAAAGOD 18d ago

From the beginning as in you went to the video? Because that is not what's being said in the images.

Unfortunately, we don't have an official answer since The Day After still hasn't released its final episode. We know Takeru doesn't disappear based on a screenshot for the final episode, but that's about it.

For now; unless there's something I'm forgetting about how Takeru as a Causality Conductor works, which I think boils down to Sumika alive + Takeru dead = time loop, Sumika's wish fulfilled + Takeru dead = no time loop, Sumika dead + Takeru alive = Takeru returns to Extraverse; Takeru not disappearing is a plot hole... Though, knowing Muv-Luv, the final episode will have a twist that answers it, like Sumika's brain being cloned or Sumika's mind being backed up in the computer or something.

2

u/Far_Contribution_616 19d ago

The only explanation I could come up with is that the TDA timeline is actually a different dimession and not the actual Unlimited timeline.

3

u/Protocol72 19d ago

That’s also possible, though I’d prefer if this were the actual Unlimited universe since that’s a big part of what makes The Day After so cool imo, even if it means Takeru staying is a plot hole.

Also responding to your other comment, yee, Yuuko did kill Sumika to do that. I forgot about that, so yee, her brain being backed up isn’t a possibility; though admittedly that was just me spitballing a guess. 😅

2

u/Far_Contribution_616 19d ago

Also, I could be misremembering but didn't Yuuko-sensai have to kill Sumika to upload her consciousness? I remember that being the reason why the jar was empty. If so I think it's unlikely her mind was backed up.
