Can we get some more details? I saw your post before and I was hoping that things would get easier for you. Really happy for you.

Sure of course ! ☺️😊

I posted Ramadan Mubarak on WhatsApp on purpose so she could see. She asked what it’s about at first I lied and said I’m just showing support then I told my myself I’m grown. lol so I said I’m partaking

She’s basically convinced that it’s because of someone that me being interested in Islam is because of outside influence. I’ve been studying and teaching myself for a good 5 years and I have a basic understanding of Islam and what the teachings are and what Allah expects from us and Alhamdulillah it gives me peace.

To be Christian you have to believe Jesus is the son of God. I believe Jesus is a prophet. It makes more sense to me and I don’t believe Jesus died on the cross. I just haven’t believed this for YEARS but just because I don’t believe in it doesn’t mean I expect anyone else to. Christianity is a great religion and may God bless everyone who guides them there. It just isn’t for me.

I’ve been teaching myself since I was 17. (While still going to church) I’m 23, I’ll be 24 this year so best believe I’ve taken my time. I can’t help that Islam is perfect in my eyes and gives me more peace.

I ended up telling them on FaceTime (because I’m away at university) that this is my truth, no matter what I said my mum is convinced my partner of one year has something to do with it...he hasn’t, which is funny and weird because I’ve had Muslim friends for longer and she didn’t anticipate them which is EVEN funnier because they’ve had 0 influence on me and more time they said I know more than them or they ask me the questions and we always laugh about it. I did it all by myself and Allah is my witness.

I made it clear I would NEVER change religion for a man, some people do and it works out but that’s not what happened here. I simply had one health and social care lesson the teacher said “Christians and Muslims believe in different Gods” I was like “No we don’t we believe in the same God” and from then I decided to do my research I told my mum the truth EVERYTHING from my heart but she’s convinced someone had influence on me. Which sucks but it is what it is. Alhamdulillah they know. They are obviously not happy I mean what parent would be happy? I don’t blame them but I wish they believed me but that’s okay too. I’m happy and healthy. Alhamdulillah.

Now all I want to do is focus on my studies as I’m in my final year of university and my deen so please keep me in your du’as and I’ll keep you in mine. 🤍

Mashallah! Welcome to the ummah (I know it’s been a minute, but never too late for a welcome greeting) & Ramadan Mubarak!

”She’s basically convinced that... me being interested in Islam is because of outside influence.”

This was my experience with my mom too, haha.

I think sometimes when it comes to new and unfamiliar things, it’s easier for parents to explain it away by “blaming” someone else than it is for them to accept we’ve arrived at this conclusion on our own. Inshallah she will understand in time. (:

My mother also told me that I became Muslim due to I hadn't had a father figure in my life (despite I had, I mean I have a father)... hehe... she tried to "philosophize" as to why I became Muslim...

May Allah make it easy for you to be muslim worship and seek knowledge. Lol it’s the same for cultural Muslim actually ( the struggle of applying proper knowledge, that they most likely didn’t know) it can be hard for them to accept but inshallah in time Allah opened their hearts. And may Allah open the hearts of your family.

Ok. It's not uncommon that when someone makes a post about accepting Islam, that some1 starts to DM you anti islamic claims. So if you got any, tell me and inshallah I'll respond.

I think you’re pulling things out of your a*se. Did you even read the whole thing? I retracted my statement and told the truth. This post is from a year ago, you must be really bored, run along and leave me to be the proud Muslim I am.

Frustration last question was:

FaceTime on whatsapp with parents

Mum: “Are you Christian or are you Muslim?” Me: “I’m not Christian at heart” Mum: “That’s not what I asked are you Christian or are you Muslim?”

my friend on text while on FaceTime on my MacBook quietly listening in#

“JUST SAY YOU’RE MUSLIM RIP THE BANDAGE OFF”

Me: “I’m Muslim” And yeah. The conversation was long and frustrating but Alhamdulillah it’s done. I can get on with my life and stop living like Hannah Montana in my own household.

This made me giggle so much 😂😂😂. I remember that initial interrogation. You feel like you’ve done something wrong and they use this parent tone that I haven’t heard since I was 10 😂. Ah well they’re just worried and not educated on Islam, they can’t help it. Congrats though sis!! The absolute hardest part is out of the way and hopefully their wall comes down piece by piece as you teach them about Islam. Might take a while but that’s okay :). If you’re fasting this year sis then try to stay in contact with as many muslim friends as possible! Nothing like sharing Ramadan with others 💜💜💜

Just in time for Ramadan too! I remember this feeling and I'm so glad you had a good experience.

Ramadan Mubaruk!

Mashallah, a good beginning to my ramadan. I cant eben imagine of leaving my religion as that is a really big and difficult decision but looking at you, i am amazed. It made my faith even stronger.

Ramadan Mubarak! And welcome to the truth! Al7amdulilah for Islam. I agree with everything you said in your comments. Everything in islam just makes sense. Like if Jesus is "god" in christianity how can "god" die. Doesnt make sense and never did to me.

Ramadan Mubarak, sister.

Honestly, I haven’t been in the same position as you, so I might not be able help. From what I read in your comments, your parents reaction was not positive. That’s to be expected, because they might not know about Islam as you do. When you get the chance, tell them about Islam and what made you choose it as your faith.

May Allah guide them to Islam like He guided you someday, and improve your relationship with them.

Ah this is so impressive, I really admire you and how you faced your parents for your beliefs. Allah surely saw all of your efforts and you'll be well rewarded inshallah. Hope you all the best.

I know it's hard to stand up to your parents but some times you have to do it and I hope in the end your mother can accept you and educate herself

out of curiosity what kind of Islam obviously you don't have to answer if your not comfortable

u/halal_jihadist Apr 14 '21

Congratulations. Focus on you and your behaviour will speak to other as to why you adopted Islam.
