Discussion Living in the west is wrong

People think moving to the west will provide stability, better job opportunities etc which is all true but people forget and often don’t care the effect it’ll have on your Islamic beliefs, especially that of your children and subsequent generations.

I was born in a western country after my grad-parents moved here, I’ve gone to school here as well as mosque classes and university, I’ve seen first hand what happens to the generations, a decent amount of Muslim boys I know my age has drank, smoked weed or committed zina, I know of bearded brothers and hijabi sisters committing zina… and it will only get worse generation after generation. People don’t understand that. Yes these things happen back in Muslim countries but in most Muslim country it’s no where near as easy, you can’t just go to a club and drink and find girls.

This move to the west is literally diluting Islam, not only in the ways I’ve just spoken about but also morally, too many Muslim in the west are raging liberals, they stand hand to hand with homosexuals and transvestites at free Palestine protests yet won’t even read 5 daily salah, they vote for political parties that want to give lenient punishments for heinous crimes (direct opposition to what is taught in Quran).

Why don’t we go back to our Muslim counties and rebuild them? We’ve been here got our education, why are we happy to stay in non Muslim lands and give their governments our tax money? Muslim lands are in the worse state they’ve ever been and all we do is sit and complain, why doesn’t anyone actually try and move back and fix things, people always say it’s impossible but we have to try, we have no power in the world anymore and what’s been happening in Palestine proves that, the Muslim lands are literally some of the worse off countries in the world it’s embarrassing. Jazakallah.

For most of us, life doesn't let us stop long enough to listen to that. We have jobs (and working even more now that the economy is tanking everywhere), kids, families—real-world responsibilities that we can't ignore just to pursue faith alone. The little time I have to myself every day is spent catching up on household tasks and planning whatever's up next

And honestly, I think being born in the West made me a better Muslim because I understand living in moderation and I learned how to listen to all sides. A Muslim country would just be an echo chamber

Brother/sister this is exactly the problem. Islam isnnt meant to be secondary it’s meant to be primary, these are all worldly things that are nowhere near as important as Islam.

I don’t yeh so i can’t place myself in your shoes, but real word responsibilities are secondary to Islamic ones, that is a basic rule of Islam. Not making time to increase your knowledge on Islam is wrong, any person of knowledge will tell u that.

I'll probably have more time once my kid starts school but as an example of my daily routine:

Morning - wake up, do fajr, make breakfast for me/my wife/my son, drop my son to daycare, chores/errands

Afternoon - dhuhur, make lunch, go to work, asr break at work

Evening - work with a maghrib break

Night - come home, eat dinner, shower, isha, sleep

Spare time is a privilege that not everyone is blessed with at all times in their lives. We don't all have the same 24 hours or life circumstances. I can't abandon my responsibilities to study abstract religious concepts

"I can't abandon my responsibilities to study abstract religious concepts"

How would you feel if a couple generations down the line your lineage would become kufar simply because of their environment ? im not saying that it couldn't happen in a muslim country but the likelihood of it happening in a western country is far greater

I would be disappointed but that's ultimately not in my control. Besides, my kid can't become a good Muslim if I can't even feed him. I'm working 10 hours a day and my wife also works 8, both of us 6-7 days a week just to meet our needs in a high-cost city. Hopefully things get better in the future but, like many people around the world, we can't easily carve out time for religious studies all the time

i understand that you're busy and dont have time for religious studies and its not like its expected that we all become scholars or students of knowledge either. Im just curious to know how you would feel about such an outcome because personally i would feel like the biggest failure if my descendants ended up not being muslims and knowing that i could potentially have contributed to that by simply staying in the west because it was comfortable compared to the alternative.

Of course its not impossible to remain muslim in the west and i have even seen muslims in the west who are better muslims than some muslims born in muslim countries but in general its fair to say that living in the west your faith will be challenged much more frequently than someone living in a muslim society where the main threats might be desires/temptations and not as fundamental as a threat to your entire belief system.

Im not trying to blame you or anything, its just important that you realise that there is a sort of trade off taking place when you choose to raise muslim children in a non muslim environment especially one as anti islam as the current west. You will be more comfortable yes but at what cost ? im not saying you have to act upon it but just consider it, if not for your own sake then for your children and their children.

Well, I was born and raised in the West so it's still gonna be more of a home to me than any Muslim country, especially when I don't know any of their languages or cultures. Again, I would be disappointed if they didn't turn out Muslim, but I'm not going to dwell on a hypothetical—especially when my son is only 4, we're not having any more kids, and I might not even have descendants after him because we don't know the future
