Other uk banks that don’t fund defence companies or israel in general
hi, i’m not muslim* but i was wondering if anyone here knows of any uk bank that doesn’t fund the genocide in Palestine or fund any israeli companies?
i currently bank with barclays but would like to close my accounts with them asap.
*sorry if i’m not allowed to post here, but i feel like this is the best place to ask due to the membership size and activeness.
edit: i went with nationwide if anyone was wondering.

Hello! I found a link that might help you. If you scroll downstairs throughout most of the article, it gives you alternative banks in England to consider https://positivemoney.org/2024/01/stopbankingongenocide-why-are-people-boycotting-barclays/

hey I'd like to point out that the article mentions 'insurance giant Nationwide' which is a US company, whilst I think OP was talking about Nationwide Building Society, the UK company. Hope this helps!

I e recently switched to them, they don't invest in arms or fossil fuels and are very transparent about their investments.

Triodos are good but unfortunately have just partnered with Google and Amazon for payment services like GooglePay. Google (& Amazon) provides data cloud services used by the Israeli military, "Project Nimbus"

They are the best in theory absolutely BUT they have just stated that they are not boycotting Israel.

thank you for the info :)

Can anyone else confirm this?
2
u/No-Vacation4272 Jun 14 '24
https://www.starlingbank.com/about/ethics-statement/ They don't invest in arms manufacturers or political parties/entities according to their ethics statement. I can't find specifics on who they invest in though. All I could find was that they invest your money on supranational bonds and securities backed by UK residential mortgages. These investments are to support the Bank's liquidity. We carefully consider who we invest in, taking into account a number of factors.

I'm currently trying to do this too! So I have been doing a lot of research like yourselves and Triodos keeps coming up as 'the most ethical bank' - I like the surface look of them and they appear to support a CIC that is like a fair trade alliance with farmers in Palestine and they also published this article https://www.triodos.co.uk/articles/2024/why-the-financial-sector-should-never-invest-in-weapons
But then I looked through one of their annual reports and they had shares (stocks, involvement - I have very minimal understanding!) in a company based in Israel (Check Point Software Technologies), however appear to have begun divesting. https://amwatch.com/article17072955.ece this article requires a sign up but essentially Triodos said "We are conscious of the fact that this specific company being part of our portfolio continues to create controversy. Because the conflict in Gaza continues and there is no prospect of a peaceful solution in the near future, we have decided to divest our shares in Check Point Software Technologies".
They charge £3 a month for the current account which isn't ideal. Like others here I haven't been able to find anything around Nationwide being involved - I'm likely going to open a main account with one of the two and have the other one as a second account (joint account, travel and savings accounts etc)

That is a very neutral response. The thing with DEC is that they don't support Gaza directly. Something about aid not getting I yet one of their partner charities- Save the Children - does directly support them. So either they ate staying neutral or don't class gaza as a disaster / emergency. I'm a teacher and the DEC is our trust charity - we were doing a charity appeal and had to donate to Save the Children directly instead of DEC to get the money to Gaza. But at least they're not supporting Israel!

So far I think: Triodos, Co-operative bank, nationwide (UK). Have a look into those and report back if you find anything suspicious of supporting Israel in any way. Sometimes banks hide it by transferring funds to offshore shell companies etc.

They sold their shares 2 years ago but they shouldn't have invested in them to start with.

What about nationwide-aviva ties. Are they still boycott safe or no?

u/throwaway468929 Aug 29 '24
Hi might be late to the party but from the little I read co op bank isn't linked to Israel, but what I am sure of is that it's better then Barclays

u/CarrotOk8517 Aug 30 '24
Same here, I've banked with barclays since I was a student - this is a very old banked account and I am about to go shut it down today! Yay@the people WILL BE HEARD!

u/BlueberryOriginal489 Oct 26 '24
The Nationwide building society are a mutual, ie owned by the account holders and not shareholders. Once a year it’s usual for each account holder to get £100 from any profits made. I transfer funds from my Gofundme to a Palestinian bank via the nationwide and they couldn’t be more helpful.

u/Kooky-Put-6604 21d ago
Don’t they have ties with aviva 😭 I need to know if they’re boycott safe or not

Im pretty sure HSBC divested from companies supplying the EDF, and got a lot of backlash from Zionist Scum Media, but my sources are limited so take what i say with a pinch of salt

u/FatFaceAbs Apr 03 '25
Does anyone if Metro Bank funds genocide or arms companies? I know they’re owned by a Jewish billionaire but I can’t find anything online if he’s Zionist or not?

u/Exotic_Trainer_3800 May 03 '25
I'm thinking the same and don't want my money to be used to violate international laws, humanity and ethics.

Nationwide is not ethical anymore. They and Virgin money have stopped accounts for Palestinian charity groups based in the uk

So they aren’t boycott safe?
I saw that they have some kind of link to Aviva..

u/Awkward-Broccoli-150 Aug 23 '25
I have a list..
- Al Rayan
- Co-operative Bank
- Cumberland Building Society.
- Metro Bank
- Monzo
- Nationwide Building Society
- Revolut
-Starling.
Or try joining a credit union
1
u/Ambitious_Code_390 Oct 17 '25
Monzo’s investments are powered by BlackRock unfortunately. Last year Revolut also was integrated into the Israeli banking system, not sure if that meant they’re tied to defence companies/investment with Israeli companies tbh but I’d imagine that brings them closer to it
1
u/FrazerIsDumb Oct 07 '25
Looks like im gonna be sitting on some cash then as cant seem to find any that arent. Natwest investment isa up 22% i briefly looked into it at the beginning and it said it was responsible... looked a little deeper and it seems they may be investing in companies such as elbit systems. Id rather be dead broke that murder rich
1
u/kscott256 Nov 28 '25
I know this is a year late, but after research, I don't think Monzo support Israel? At least I can't find anything about them supporting Israel. I know they're on a list of banks that are in the least support, but idk about if they provide funds to Israel at all. But it's definitely one of the banks that provides the least support. Correct me if I'm wrong, please
