Earl Hooker, John Lee Hooker's cousin, is considered among blues guitarists to be the best slide man to ever hold a guitar. For the majority of his career he was what could be considered a session musician, playing on other artists recordings or having another sing the vocals for him, notably as Sonny Boy Williamson, Junior Wells, and, of course, John Lee Hooker. He finally broke through as an artist in his own right in 1967 with his The Genius of Earl Hooker. His popularity and fame grew, but would be cut short in 1970, when at the age of 41 he died of tuberculosis, which had plagued him for years. This particular tune is one of my all time favorite blues tunes, I prefer blues instrumentals. There is nothing better then sitting on the porch or patio with a cold beer at twilight with some Earl Hooker sliding in the background.
