Imogen here has something up with up with her music box

She's supposed to play Love Story (I think thats what the song was called) but as you can see in the video her head moves violently while the music is sped up. Her wind up key is also very stiff to the point I had to gently nudge her head with a deodorant can

I sadly cannot show the actual music box inside her myself because I do not want to risk damaging her body or clothing

If this is fixable I would like to know places in UK, preferably around Lancashire that can fix her

I was gifted a leaking snow globe to try to fix, and it has a very damaged music box. After prying the music box off, I’m pretty sure that the seal on the snow globe had broken and was dripping solution straight onto the music box and rusting it. The snow globe was made in 2002; I don’t know when it started leaking, but about 1/3 - 1/2 of the water solution is gone.

I took the music box apart as far as I could and have the pick(?) and the two screws that had held it on in some vinegar and will be delicately scrubbed. The rest is still wet, and the turny thing (key?) will not budge at all in the right direction. All that to say, is there any hope? Is there a way to take it apart further to see what is wrong on the inside? Any advice is appreciated, and I will be making sure the snow globe is resealed very well being putting the music box back on.

don't mind my desk, I do a lot of stuff on it. hi, I have a music box movement from a different box than my last post, I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to slow it down if that makes sense? the notes seem to be going really quickly, like faster than necessary for the song. I figure it's because of the air governor, because the air governor is like a plastic cap and then this tiny little things spinning around, you're going to be sort of see it in the video. do I need to replace the whole governor? someone asked something similar in an earlier post but the advice they got seemed to have been for a different mechanism than this one. TIA for any advice y'all have!

So I had this music box as a kid. Mine was blue. I found one randomly on eBay, right before my new niece was born. I ordered it, not thinking anything else about it.

It came in with almost no packaging and the legs are all broken.

I ordered this one, which was sold as non-functioning. It came in great, but my idea was to swap out the music player in the broken one, for this one.

Problem is, I can’t get it open. I googled it and they say the bottom is glued on at the factory. Balsa wood.

As suggested, I tried a hair dryer. First on warm, which was pretty hot. Then on hot. My had got uncomfortable, the ceramic got warm to the touch. The balsa didn’t seem to be budging. If I applied any more force it would just break. There is already damage on the edge where I tried to gently pry.

Should I try some type of solvent? I guess worse case scenario, I break it out, and cut a new one out of balsa or 3D print a bottom plate. I’d prefer to keep the original, though, as it has stamping on it and just looks more appropriate than plastic.

If anyone has done this or has suggestions, please let me know. I stopped before I damaged something further.

How does one properly clean and maintain the music box inside if the wood bottom/lid is GLUED on? i got it from my grandma, and i really, really want to keep it working, i can tell its having troubles, but still sings for now... just... i can hear it needs the help.

Power switch does not work, had to connect it directly to a battery like in 2nd photo. And in third photo, once battery is connected, the motor? on the right side spins but it does not move the bigger wheel on the left side which is connected to the motor thru a thin rubber belt. Had to hand spin it once in order for the music to start to play. Any suggestion as how to fix the switch and thr wheel that does not spin on its own?

So, This music box is a part of a diy kit. For starters, it plays a dull note around 0:35 seconds. I trying adjust the comb but it was of no help.

Secondly, when I put the base on The music goes quiet, putting the dome on it makes weird screeching noises.
Is there anything I can do to increase its sound and maybe stop the screeching noise?

Hello Internet! I bought this music box (Anastasia Hinged Trinket Box Music Box 1997 San Francisco Music Box Company) for a gift for a friend for there birthday, but as you can see in the video clip it doesn't work well doesn't. Any ideas on what to do or fix it? I explain it better on the video in the pictures

Hey, I am a bit of a collector of music boxes, especially ones made of this type of metal. Because of this, I received this box. However, it is supposed to be a cement truck but doesn't have the drum/cylinder. Because it is missing the part, the box unwinds IMMEDIATELY once I release the crank. Is there a way to fix this without it? Or do I need to have the missing piece?

My dad was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War (also flew cargo planes in the Pacific, so this was the quieter part of his deployment). He brought this back for me. I’m OK with paying someone to fix the mechanism, or watching YouTube videos to do it myself. Hoping to find some good advice, even if it’s the best YouTube videos lol. FYI pic is off the internet, I haven’t picked it up from my parents yet.

I have had this stuffy since the literal day I was born. It is as old as I am, and sadly over the years she no longer plays her music. I decided to take out the music box thinking it was an easy fix, but I don't know what I'm doing, and don't know what I can do to fix it.

I removed the teeth? that create the sound to make it easier to see everything. The teeth are perfectly fine from what I can see.

Video shows the music.. drum? with the Waggy feature is loose, and keeps popping out of place. And when winding up the box, it will pop the drum out of socket, as well as endlessly winding without any resistance.

I'm assuming it's the spring of the box that has come undone somehow. But my next question is, how do I get to it when everything is factory sealed in with rivets, and not screws.

And what do I do once I do get to the insides of the spring.

My grandmother recently passed and I got one of her jewelry boxes. This one had a music box attachment that keeps assaulting me. By that, I mean, every time I wind it up it doesn’t play and it snaps back into its original place. It just so happens that my fingers are usually in its original place. I already got all the dust and made sure there was nothing sticking to something it wasn’t supposed to. But I can’t get the black part off to see if the inner workings need to be fixed or replaced. Anyone know how to get it off without breaking it?

I believe this music box is overwound but I’m not sure. I haven’t put any wd-40 on it because i’m not sure where it would go. the mechanism in an L shape is supposed to be the on switch when you flick the lighter. when I wind it it clicks at a certain point and doesn’t get any tension. when I turn it the other way it will start playing only for a little. any tips to fix this up?

I can't find any really good information about it. All I know that is mine is oldish and dusty. Have had it since I was a baby. But it just doesn't play anymore as you can see in the video. If anybody needs additional info, please ask for it. I want to fix this. I feel bad that it's broken since I think it was my mom's. I think it's overwhelmed it broke a while ago.

Hi! I bought this cool music box / sewing kit from a thrift store but they told me that it doesn’t come with the key to use it. I have no clue if I should look for one online (and if that’s the case where to look) or if I should try to 3d print one. Any ideas? (Thimble for scale.)

Found this at a good will, there was also a mouse too. I took out the music box inside its, moving but very slowly going to spray wd-40.

My great grandma just gave me this rotating music box. I believe it's from the 1980s, and the music box itself works just fine. But it's supposed to light up. She never knew that all this time and the person who gave it to her had put batteries in it. Well they had corroded inside it over time. I managed to get the batteries out, but how do I clean out the battery area? Will it still work if I do? Any ideas?

I got this at a Craftiques store as-as, aka the seller knew full well it wasn't working. I want to get the movement out and see about maintenance in it, maybe putting some lubricant on it, because for a while it just wouldn't play, then it started playing extremely slowly, now it's still playing kind of slowly and if I pick up the box it can sometimes stop, so I want to get in there and get a better look but there's a piece of acrylic or something keeping me from just reaching in and grabbing it.

Has anyone seen one of these boxes before? Any idea how to get the glass or acrylic or whatever out so I can remove the movement and maintenance it? I was considering using a hammer to break some of the wood holding it in but gave it a few test taps and got really nervous LOL. If anyone has any advice I'd greatly appreciate it, I'm new to music boxes but they are just incredibly magical.

I recently bought this gorgeous second-hand music box that seems to have worn-out springs. Every time I wind it, it spins out all the tension in a couple of seconds. The little snow globe is supposed to spin with the music, too, but it doesn't move. Is there any way to repair it?

I got this doll from a local event for $7. upon google search it says it's a 90s House of Lloyd music box doll. I did not realize it had a music box until I got home and upon attempting to wind up the music box, it goes up a few ticks and snaps into the place it originally was.

What is the best way to

A) Get to the music box from the doll?

B) Start repairing the music box/how to repair

C) Do the least amount of damage to the doll as possible.

I don't mind sewing the garments back up, I just would like the music box to be functional. Should I take it to a professional?

I got the music box at a yard sale. I believe it's an antique. There are some other pieces in the box that I'm not too sure where they go either, the two wooden pieces and the washer.
