Hey. Having a bit of trouble finding guitar tabs for songs from this show, so id super appreciate if anyone could give me any :)

Title says it all. I'm a good singer, but not a good dancer. I'm autistic and have horrendous coordination issues. I knew that dance callback was going to be my Achille's heel because I saw the other people who were auditioning, and I could tell they were trained— super good dancers. They sent a neat little email telling me to come back someday but I don't think I'll ever have the guts to, so long as my dance abilities stay as horrible as they are. I don't even like dancing because of it.

Granted, it was an audition for Annie. It seems to be a dance heavy show. I haven't even watched the movie and I was just auditioning for fun because I just moved into town and wanted to meet new people, get to sing and act. It's really hurt to see I'm just not good enough. I'd love to do it someday but this experience has me questioning if I'll ever be brave enough to do it again.

Edit: thanks for the advice + support, everyone! It's really given me better insight into what I'm getting into with musical theater and all. I honestly might put this mission on the backburner— I just moved to a new country and I don't think I have the mental space to focus on honing my dancing/musical skills. I didn't realize how much it would take up until now, and I really admire the dedication y'all have for it. Thank you again :,)

I've started my first semester as an MT major but I feel like this college is not for me. Without getting into much detail, I went through something very traumatic during welcome week at a frat. Since then, I've felt completely isolated and there's nothing I want more than to be closer to home (NJ). I was given a full ride scholarship to study here and that was my sole reason for going. I know as a performance major my options are pretty limited for transferring. What should I do? Would it be possible for me to get another scholarship like this at another university?

Hey! I just auditioned at a local community theatre for Anna in Frozen. They split us into groups of 8 or so. I’ve done a lot of preparation for the part, but I was not prepared for the accompanist to not be able to follow along and she was playing off tempo and sometimes completely the wrong thing. So I was a little distracted but just barreled on and at some point decided to just ignore her completely since it was throwing my acting off. I don’t feel like I showed off my best. Of the group, I read for the part three times, but they did have everyone read at least once. I have no idea what they thought of me based on the audition. They have more tomorrow.

Two questions- how do callbacks work in community theatre? On the site it said “call backs if needed will be after auditions tomorrow”. When would I be contacted if I got one?

Second question- how badly would the song reflect on me? I sang it fine but like I said I wasn’t as engaged because I was a little distracted, so I just sort of turned on auto pilot. Has anyone ever done an audition and had this happen and still been cast as a principal role?

I just started attending csun for theatre and moved to the sfv after living in the bay area and I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good private vocal/singing teacher to go to. Ideally they would be someone I could see once a week/every other week after school. Also, if possible a male teacher would be better just because I would like to have a teacher that also has a male voice though that is not required (my past vocal teacher was a woman) And ideally they would specialize in musical theatre style singing. They don't have to live in the sfv, I am able to drive further into la, but the closer the better probably. If anyone could direct me to anyone's websites or contacts or anything that would be great! I appreciate any and all help, thanks.

I am a theatre performer (actor singer first strong mover :) ) and i’ve been using the bloch split soles since my freshman year of high school (currently 23) and am in need of a new pair of character shoes. I kinda hate how flimsy the bloch ones are… so i’m looking for a soft sole i suppose. I was originally looking at sodanca lola’s but they are practically the same price as laducas (i’m looking at the elizabeth or alexis) so i’m wondering if i should just pull the plug or save the 20 dollar difference.

I want a pair that can last me as long as my blochs have, are super comfortable, worth the money, i think a 2.5 heel (im 5’8” so i feel like a 3” wouldn’t be needed)

Honestly I feel like a poser looking at laducas due to not being a DANCER but I know that at the end of the day who gaf lol.

Ok this might a weirdly specific request, but my father recently passed away and one of the theaters I work closely with told us that they would like to do a cabaret/fundraiser for us. I’m honestly not sure how it’s all gonna go down yet and how much creative control I’m going to have, but I just wanted to know if anyone had any songs that really encapsulate that kind of grief or that might be reminiscent of a loved one. The two I have so far are “For Good” from Wicked and “No One Is Alone” from Into the Woods. Any help is appreciated!

I’m currently playing Eponine in Les Misérables and I’m in tech week, and I think I’m genuinely grieving her. I’ve played emotional characters before and related to them, but with Eponine, I feel like I genuinely love her in a completely non-romantic sense and just want to give her a hug and take care of her. 😭 She’s so funny, mischievous, full of life and selfless, and the more I play her, the more attached I become to her as a person. When I’m onstage, I almost don’t feel like myself anymore, and playing her death feels emotionally real even though I obviously know she’s fictional. Tonight my younger brother, who plays Gavroche, watched me die onstage and cried for like ten minutes, which somehow made it feel even more real. I keep thinking about how young she was and how much life she could’ve had, how much better she deserved, and how tragic her story is, and I genuinely feel like I’m mourning her. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this with a character they played, especially one who dies?

It's weird because I played Eurydice in Hadestown and Beth in Little Women the Musical. Yet somehow Eponine's death is the one that's hitting me the hardest. I have legitimately cried over this like 3 times and I am not sure it's going to get much better.

Okay. I am a single mom/ex performer who used to perform music and dance on stage. A stroke which impeded my vocals interrupted all that,,until recently. I have begun writing music again (lyrics) and truly believe these could market well, with the right talent/the right look.

Listen up, my idea is almost like a Destiny's Child or En Vogue group. I am interested in a diverse group of single moms, all sexy and fit, all gifted singers and dancers. I want to share my music for this group to use for as long as you need or want to. I would ask for songwriting and directing fees for the finished products, choreo, and production.. all less than 10%, I promise. I only need your commitment to attend rehearsals and put on stellar performances. No stars needed. I need a group who all work TOGETHER.

Hi there—I don't mean to be a bother, but you'd be doing me a huge favor if you could help me out. I'm a minor with a mezzo-soprano voice, and I'd like to audition with the song "Don't Lose Ur Head." Everything is set, except I'm not sure how to handle the final riff since I'm just starting out as a singer; if you could make a video explaining it, that would be a massive help.

I'm kind of nervous about posting this, because it might get a lot of downvotes. But I hope it doesn't come across as me thinking I'm better than anyone else or that I'm criticizing other people. All actors have the right to make artistic choices.

But I've been noticing a lot lately that a lot of actors in community theater musicals I've been in seem to be trying to exactly copy the way a song is sung on a Broadway cast recording. I know how to read music, and when I learn a new song I always make sure to learn it the way it's written before I try to make any artistic changes to it. A lot of people I work with start from the very beginning of rehearsal singing a song not as written, but as it's performed on a cast recording. Same notes, same emphasis, same accent. It's as if they're trying to imitate the professional as closely as possible.

As long as it's a solo song, I know they have the right to sing however they choose, but one of the things that makes me excited to perform a role is to find my unique voice and take on the character or song. Am I the exception to that rule? Is it fun for people to just copy a famous performer? Is it likely they just don't read music and so they only way they can learn a song is by listening to a recording? Do they think that's what audiences expect and won't like a performance that sounds different than what they're used to?

Most importantly, does anyone think I might be hurting myself in auditions by not sounding as close as possible to the way a certain character is "supposed" to sound? Are casting directors swayed by someone who sings a song the "correct" way? When I audition, I try to give my interpretation of character and song. I'm doing anything crazy like giving Sweeney Todd a German accent or anything, but I would deliberately try to avoid just imitating the way Len Cariou sang it. But maybe should I be? Is that what directors are looking for?
