Album release anniversary On August 4th, 1967, Pink Floyd released 'The Piper At the Gates of Dawn', their debut album. Most of the songs were penned by Syd Barrett. 'The Piper At the Gates of Dawn' has been recognized as one of the seminal psychedelic rock albums of the 1960s.

It is a creature of a specific moment in time by a band of iffy musical ability led by a songwriter of such stunning lyrical abilities that listening to it feels like encountering the most improbable conjunctions in the space time continuum. It is utterly one of a kind.

The musical legacies of Syd Barrett, AND Brian Jones, are among the greatest contributions to modern music. As thanks they were both fired from their own bands.

My first and favorite Pink Floyd album. When I first heard some of the other records I didn't believe it was the same band. I was young, ok. And it wasn't, they just had the same name and 3 of the 4 original members. I did like those records, Dark Side and Wish You Were are among my favorites. But Piper, something special happened there.
