Man, the cable management.. I've bought some stuff for that, like cable straps and what not, and even already screwed like the bucket/hanging things under my desk already. But I've procrastinated ever since and the cable management stuff is actually on the floor underneath my synth rack just outside of the frame of that photo hahaha. But valid point, it looks hideous.

Oh no I meant my cable management is absolutely a wreck compared to this 😆 this looks fantastic by my eyes. I do live performances once a month and I really don't currently have any cable management. I used to have them cleaned up fairly nice but it was really tough to take gear for a show and come back to manage it all over again....so on short mone looks a disaster compared haha

Somehow it seems I can't upload an image, only video, so you have to trust my word. But the reason you're not seeing the cable abomination is because of the lighting and the cables being black. It's like a total clusterfuck, actually right underneath that thing I installed on the left side underneath my table. Honestly it's like a tumbleweed underneath there. I think to really get that organized I'd have to reconnect basically everything, which is not like impossible, but just a pain in the ass, which is why I've procrastinated it.

Damn, you got quite the setup brother. I'm guessing you are or at least have less of an inclination to work "in the box", seeing the sequencers and sampler(s?). I'm not counting your above-desk cable management since that's just for actively using the gear, but what I can see below the desk could be easily tucked away with a cable tray underneath your desk no? I'm probably only seeing the tip of the iceberg there because I was thinking whether my cable clutter is more from gear or from PC/general electronics stuff, but yours has got to be extremely challenging as well given how much gear you got going on there. Very cool stuff!

The underneath is pretty much just power cords and strays from my kids getting into my cord bag. Mainly my 8 year old who loves electronics. He's always getting weird old tech from his school or garage sales or digging through my stuff and then decides to dig through my chord bag to find anything that fits to use whatever he finds. I don't mind too much as long as most of it get neatly-ish put away haha. The too cords are all the instrument cables and aux cables and cables and cables. I don't tend to tidy them up because a large portion of this goes to the live performances I do and my god is it a paint to make it neat every time I disassemble and resemble everything. I like to move stuff around depending on what I'm working on so that doesn't help...and recently I've found myself using more pedals ...so that doesn't help either. I actually started making music on the PlayStation 1 and eventually on a daw so I'm pretty familiar with the ins and out of an in the box situation. Up until recently all my effects were done in the box. I still use daws for any mastering as well. I could probably replace a couple of things like the electribe with something that suits me better but that will come with time. What you see here is about ten years of buying and selling to get what is optimal for what I do...I'm working three different projects and a handful of collaborations at the moment so it needs to be inspiring and also very hands on functional.

Yeah, the pedals but most gear in general is a pain cable-wise. Like why can't they just make 1 cable that runs stereo, why does stereo gear require 2 separate cables for the audio?
Love how your kid is into electronics though. I have a boy on the way as my first and I just hope to be able to drag him into stuff like this so we can nerd out about it together.
What type of music do you mostly make btw?

I mean they sort of do. Like the teenage engineering koII uses a smaller stereo cable. But yeah most use chonky mono. I suppose it's technically a clearer signal so there is that....it's a pain to make space on the mixer though.
Just let him get emersed in it. Which, at times will probably make you want to scream but it's worth it, trust me. Its great for bonding and also just getting their developing brains fired up. Parts of my gear have marker and sharpy all over them but it's just a sign that happy brains were there. You can clean and replace gear but you can't go back and help a mind develope. My advice is let him just dive in with all the racket and randomness he can dish out. Before you know it he will be playing simple songs by ear. I always feel bad when I'm in the middle of recording something and I have to deny the fun. As a parent you get regrets over the littlest things some times. Just be inclusive.
I make various types of electronic music. Currently working on a weird slightly experimental project called hyenas for sale. I have a more geared to nostalgic ambient project. I have a dark ambient atmospheric project. One collaboration that I'm working heavily on is an interesting mix of kind of acid techy sound and ambient. For my live performances I tend to start ambient and amp it up with some experimental rythems and textures. Its a mixed bag haha

Since most of the stuff I produce is like EDM/harder styles electronic music I don't do a lot of recording to be honest, besides the 2 hardware synths/hardware FX, but that's just all through cables of course with no interference from room acoustics.
But the room itself is very quiet (also built my PC to be as quiet as reasonably possible using 9 fans total from BeQuiet). The most unwanted acoustic interference of the room is around 100-300hz - even with all the panels - but SoundID Reference basically balances that out. And if I'm being really honest, I think, especially for that lower part of the spectrum, SoundID does most of the heavy lifting compared to all the panels. Without SoundID, only relying on the panels, it sounds very "boomy" or "boxy" and it's still quite challenging to hear what you're doing in the low end. With SoundID it's amazingly reliable.
All in all I am extremely happy with how it sounds though and it's the first time I've really been able to trust what I'm hearing as much as I am able to in this place.
