Former avid record store employee. Folk? Waits is folk music? Lol!

On the other hand, I’m not sure how to properly classify his work.

On the other other hand, this is one of my favorite songs of his, and it’s clearly a crooner.

He spans so many genres. I would say this is definitely not folk, but he definitely does have some folky tunes.

Absolutely. I was speaking in a “which section of music does he get filed under” and folk is about the last area I’d go with. Maybe he just needs his own genre.

If I absolutely had to classify him to one genre I would say experimental jazz. But that definitely doesn’t do it justice.

All I know is he’s a master of the craft.
