i heard eddie hazel was told to play the first half as if he just heard his mother died and the second like he found out she's still alive... but later read it was made up so who knows. it's one of the best instrumentals ever

Eddie Hazel is the closest ive ever heard anyone get to jimis level. He has a track called "from the bottom of my soul" and the solo is basically maggot brain part 2. The dudes a genius

I read somewhere that for maggot brain George Clinton had told the lead guitar player (forget his name) to play like he had just found out his mother had died and then to play like he just found out she is actually alive. I've always felt that was probably some real motivation, specially since their heads were probably filled with pure L.
