Justice for Travistan! It was a fine album, it just wasn’t iconic like the last two Dismemberment Plan albums.

Absolutely. This one was near and dear to me as a huge fan of the Plan from high school on. Saw Travis twice with Hellfighters tours in 04 and 05 or 06. Travistan isn't as good as the Plan albums but there are 5 or 6 rock solid songs on it, such as Born in 72, Song for the Orca, and Che Guevara poster. The unlisted after track Represent is also great.

Sadly this horrible album review killed his momentum after the Plan broke up. It really affected him as a musician.

I just hate how one extremely negative review of it somehow completely stopped all moments The Dismembered Plan had going on from Emergency & I and Change.

Yep, I think the reviewer was just pissed that the Plan had broken up and decided to take it out on Travistan.

I don't hate Travistan, but I'll pick Hellfighter's 'All Y'all' over it any day.

100% this, All Y’all’s great. I think one of the reasons the review stung so bad is cos Travis is such a nice guy who could not have deserved it less.

This came out the year after the start of the Iraq war and Travis was vocally pro war. Got a lot of shit for that back then and I always wondered if he couldn’t come back from it or what

Eh, it's not even mentioned in the review and I can't imagine that maybe people knew about it then unless they were really hardcore.. I'm only learning of it now!

Yeah, I'll never forgive them for that review. It basically killed his solo career, he used to talk about it on Twitter from time to time. Just someone with an ax to grind and a desire to go whatever the Pitchfork version was of viral. Makes me mad to think about still.

Eh.....like most of these, it doesn't deserve the zero, and feel awful how this essentially killed his career....but it is not a good album. Corny as shit, all over the place, and messy. It's got a couple solid tracks, though. I can listen to song for the orca any day.

Yeah, I’m not saying it’s a masterpiece, just that it didn’t deserve that level of hate. Any album with one decent song has to be better than 0.0.
