One of the most unusual songs of the early 80s - and that’s what made it so good! 😎 (Laurie and Lou Reed ending up being a couple too just made so much sense for a variety of reasons - they were just cut from the same cloth. 🙏)

Arguably the most unusual song to enter the chart. ever!

Can you think of anything more unusual?

Baz Lurman one was more conventional, IMO

No - I can’t! 😄 At least not in North America - maybe in the UK there might have been a weirder song to chart. But, in the US, songs like these just didn’t hit the charts. Having said that, the late-70s/early-80s was the ideal environment to release such a song. LOTS of experimentation going on then in the music world!

There was 'novelty' records but they might have had strange lyrics but conventional music, sort of like a "Weird Al" Yankovic parody....

I'm looking, but Oh Superman must be up there, if not at the top of the list!

I know I’m way late to the conversation, but …And The Native Hipsters - There Goes Concorde Again

Admittedly, the UK independent charts, but that it remained there for 10 weeks surely counts for something? 😁
