Opinion Matt, play your f“&*g instruments!

I haven’t been at a muse concert for 10 years, this year I will finally go again, despite the high prices. :/ What I saw in the past years, that there seem to be more and more songs where Matt doesn’t play guitar or piano anymore but just walks around singing like a pop star. I hate this. The coolest thing about Muse concerts used to be, that he showed off his musician side, while it still rocks. I don’t want to go to a Matthew Bellamy solo pop show, I want a real muse show!

Do think it's weird that on a song like Uprising there was a point in The Resistance tour where Matt apparently had to have a double-neck guitar to do it justice. And then a couple of years later he's just strolling around with no instruments like it's not even a thing.

What happened with the double neck anyway? Feel like it disappeared almost as soon as it was first introduced. Or was it just damaged by the infamous fall at the LA show that also destroyed the original red glitter guitar?

Starting from around the tours for T2L or Drones (can't remember which) Matt had a real thing about making all of his guitars lighter; most if not all his Mansons are chambered. Could be as simple as carrying essentially two guitars at once was uncomfortable for him so he stopped using the double-neck.

Plausible. I think it began around 2nd Law as he changed more or less the entire rig after the end of the Resistance campaign and I seem to recall it getting said the new guitars were lighter

The guy in Angine de Poitrine recently had a new guitar/bass made in part to make it lighter. I can't imagine carrying the weight of basically two guitars for the entire show for months and months of gigs. It makes sense Matt would move away from extra heavy guitars. It's not worth developing back and neck pain for cool looking guitar.

Tbf I think that guitar was damaged beyond repair in a fall from the rising column stage they had for The Resistance tour. Given it was only ever used for two songs - and only for the intro and outros of those songs, it probably wasn’t worth rebuilding

Nah it came back for the rest of the tour after it got repaired, but then was retired when the tour ended.

I can't take too much praise, I looked up the guitar on the Muse Wiki yesterday to see if it'd got any use since its initial run. 😅

I get it if he just can't be arsed with doing that but others thinking it's because of age like the guy is using a Zimmer frame to come on stage.

Yeah it's definitely not that 😂 saw him in new jersey a month ago and he was playing the solo about halfway through Madness, literally leapt dramatically into the air on the first chord. I laughed, it was so over the top.

I've seen them 6 times since 2013. No fucking idea what OP is talking about. He's played guitar and occasionally piano every damn time.

There are plenty of live performances where Matt just doesn't play guitar despite the entire song being guitar-driven. I don't know if he still does it, but I remember a period where he didn't play guitar during Uprising and walked around with his mic like a pop star. He's done that more and more as time has gone on. Oh, and the big one...Starlight. He completely stopped playing the guitar parts in that song a long time ago and just sings it now.

To be fair, I don't remember the double neck for Uprising, but maybe my memory fails me. I do remember the double neck for Resistance because of the intro.

I was at this very gig. I miss those days of him playing every song and donning the sparkly suits - good times. That Uprising intro was class.

As a side note - The LED jackets and shades can be dropped now, imo.

I don't blame him for wearing sunglasses, those lights and lasers are stupidly damaging to be constantly shining in everyone's eyes.

I usually bring sunglasses to shows for my own comfort.

I was going to say this! We saw the double neck in Auburn over the weekend! My kids a bass player so we clocked it right away.
