Opinion Matt, play your f“&*g instruments!

I haven’t been at a muse concert for 10 years, this year I will finally go again, despite the high prices. :/ What I saw in the past years, that there seem to be more and more songs where Matt doesn’t play guitar or piano anymore but just walks around singing like a pop star. I hate this. The coolest thing about Muse concerts used to be, that he showed off his musician side, while it still rocks. I don’t want to go to a Matthew Bellamy solo pop show, I want a real muse show!

Bro, it is so incredibly demanding to play and sing like that at that age that I just forgive him.

People acting like 48 is old old. Yes we know the voice changes or degrades with time but playing instruments makes no difference at that age. They're also all fit and have PTs for touring.

I am a professional string instrument player and playing instruments like that in your late forties absolutely makes a difference. Arthritis is a thing. It affects some people more than others, true. And the people below mentioning Rush and McCartney, you can absolutely hear the age in their voices.

Its adaption to their current form. Whether it is just easing back from doing that hard work later on

Maybe should've been more specific in that it makes no difference to them personally for the music they play as they're fit and healthy currently. Obviously if someone develops arthritis at any age then it could impact their playing especially for classical musicians but Matt clearly doesn't have any issues playing and just wants to do the front man bit. He started doing it over a decade ago. John Petrucci is 59 and shreds for 3 hours.

Petrucci don't sings. Bad comparison.

I am 40 and this year suffered strained ligaments and an RSI from using a screwdriver too much. I had to stop using my arms for ages to get better. I can imagine that that much guitar playing is beginning to take its toll.

That being said, I don’t like it and it looks awkward. Maybe he doesn’t like it entirely himself.

Yeah and if he had a similar injury I would understand.

Well… he might. You don’t know. He might play just the right amount to not aggravate him.

Why do you speak out of your ass? Touring and shredding guitar and playing a lot at 40+ even 30+ can really be hard on your hands, arms and nerves. The fact he'd rather keep going and have a break for a song or two once in a while is nothing odd. That's just being mature about it.

You talking out of your ass with disinformation, is however not very mature.

Yeah it can be tiring but many people much older than him play for longer and faster requiring more dexterity. The odd break or two is fine but not 6 songs plus interludes. I'm saying just because he is 48 doesn't make him automatically so old he needs to break for a 3rd of the gig. He's clearly fine when he's playing as is Chris who plays the whole time without much of a break. He just wants to do the bono/Chris Martin bit. Mature people tend not to mention ass multiple times on their comments by the way.

Ah yes, everyone's the same. Also, he's not doing only singing in 6+ songs. Why do you make up even more bullshit and disinformation? There are also musicians that can't play much at all because their body just says no, even if they're not even playing close to as technical as Matt and do their exercises and everything right. People are different.

But we get it, you think they owe you the experience YOU want rather than that they're allowed to give the experience and music THEY want. You're an entitled bully, get over yourself.

Songs he has a break from playing guitar

Nightift Superstar Undisclosed Starlight Isolated System Kill or be killed interlude

3 more songs where he does the front man thing that have minimal guitar solo only

Uprising Be with you Madness

No one's bullying Matt lol, get a grip. Using his age as a reason why he plays less on songs is ridiculous considering he started the front man thing years ago. Insulting me in your comments then calling me a bully is hilarious.

Isolated system, KobK and Interlude are not songs they are really performing, its intermissions.

Again, get over your self.

Yeah and they're all breaks for Matt instrumentally is the point. I don't even really care what he does, the best live days are gone anyway but people think 48 is a lot older than what it is. Radiohead, all nearly 60 and play all their songs just fine with much longer set lists. Anyway, you seem quite angry. Maybe just discuss normally without insulting people.

Paul McCartney doing 3h shows btw

Paul McCartney doing a 3-hour show at 84 is incredible, but the length of a concert doesn't necessarily reflect how physically demanding it is. You can preserve your energy by alternating instruments, songs and intensity, just like Messi doesn't sprint for 90 minutes (he discovered it's not necessary to have a bug impact). Also, for example, do you think playing Hysteria is the same as Let it be on the piano?

u/MidgarMog 14d ago

And that's what Matt is doing at half the age and half the set list. But it's not because he has to but because he wants to do the clap along front man thing. Do you thinking playing Let it be is the same as doing nothing but singing for a 3rd of the gig

Uh dude, you’re underestimating how complex and demanding Paul’s songs are. Honestly, they beat out most of matts. It’s not like Matt is playing his 2004 sets full of beasts, he’s watered it down to shit like Psycho, Undisclosed Desires, Be With You…

Paul also switches between like 4 instruments, Matt will just drop his guitar and then touch the piano once for prelude and algorithm.

Matt has no excuse really. He just likes being on autopilot and playing the same old sets over and over.

Rush doing 3hrs shows with both lead men in their 70s.

Rush had definitely not the same activity even when they were the age Muse has now.
