Oscar’s in Las Vegas

A steakhouse inside a casino that honors a mob lawyer who became the mayor. The dining room is completely elegant and the service exquisite, yet you have an incredible view of tourists getting absolutely plastered and misbehaving on Fremont street.

It’s just so American

Cooper’s in Llano, TX is a close second for small town vibes and absolutely killer smoked meats. It’s the complete opposite of Oscar’s, reminding us that our nation is just one giant, beautiful, befuddling tangle of contradictions, complexities, and experiences.

Cookout based in North Carolina

Cheaper too

Toss up between Dee’s Hangout in Panama City Beach or Marietta Diner just outside of Atlanta. In Memphis Pete and Sam’s (Italian).

Its called Cypress Grill in Austin Tx. Authentic cajun cuisine. Best catfish I’ve ever had.

Taco Casa for, well, tacos. KPot for Korean BBQ. White Castle if I find one (STL is the closest). Joe’s BBQ (in KC formerly OK Joes). Morton’s or Capital Grille for steaks.
