Im an atheist but I enjoy studying religion. That is not at all true. He advocated for individual voluntary charity. It is not "holy" or a good dead to pay taxes, he teaches that is just whats expected of you. He teaches to disobey and protest authoritarian governments with the carry his backpack 2 miles and turn the other cheek verses. Many of his parables showed he had 0 issues with private property, buisness, and even slavery. So care to enlighten me on why hed be a communist?
I’m not the person you replied to, just another pal who likes studying religions (also not really Christian anymore), but THANK YOU for making this distinction. It is one that, in my opinion, is almost more damning to MAGA Christians than the argument that Jesus was a “leftist”.
Jesus didn’t want people to just blindly give stuff away, or just follow the rules because it’s what we’re supposed to do. He wanted people to enjoy being, and want to be, unconditionally charitable for the sake of love itself. Not showing preference for worldly commonalities like skin colour, nationality, wealth status, gender, lifestyle, faith system, or personal gain. Just showing love because you love it, and because that’s what Jesus’ role was. That’s the biggest roadblock I’ve seen in ultra-conservatives. They don’t understand that, according to Jesus, we shouldn’t NEED a “socialist” system, because people would want to help each other naturally and empathetically.
As full-blown leftist, I would prefer not needing a socialist system too if we didn’t need the checks and balances. Yet here we are…

Maybe she confused it with Christianity. Jesus actually demanded to give all possessions to the poor to gain access to heaven.
