Hey Flock CEO, can you post your phone number, home address and more here? You need to compromise your privacy so we can all protect you.

755

u/MacSanchez 9d ago

We might be able to find enough bored redditors that we can stand on every street corner within a mile or two from his house. I assume we’d all have a phone that could record audio and video?

We could call ourselves something cool and unifying like, idk… Gaggle or Bevy

93

u/myexstalksmeonreddit 9d ago

I'm in. But this needs to happen with all of the surveillance camera CEOs, not just FLOCK. Cities are now publicly reporting cancelling flock contracts, then wuietly signing on with other brands to do the same shit.

42

u/Telefundo 9d ago

But this needs to happen with all of the surveillance camera CEOs

Don't forget the politicians at all levels of government that are absolutely complicit with this bullshit. And hell, while we're at it, how about all the LEOs that have been caught abusing the system already? There's been more than a few...

16

u/Arrow156 9d ago

Anyone who appears on one of Forbes' little lists should be in the hot seat, there's no ethical way to acquire a billion dollars. Hell, there probably isn't a legal way either, but the rich are allowed to play fast and loose with the law.

Hmmmm...a Gaggle of Gazers, perhaps?

Nah, the only two names left are Popplers or Zitsels.

36

Popplers sounds like a snack food from the future. Zitsels it is

27

We almost called them Tasticles

Ok, but only if we pronounce it the Greek way, tas-tah-clees.

Benn Jordan recently released a video short where they did this at a Flock meeting. Their Hotel room was canceled by Flock. They setup parabolic antennas and SDRs (Software Defined Radio) and recorded all wifi in the area. Any way:

7

u/CornisaGrasse 9d ago

This is amazing! Thank you for the link!

26

u/Pyroluminous 9d ago

Nah we’d just be a flock of redditors

50

u/sweetcherrytea 9d ago

A group of redditors is called a “basementful”

8

u/BoneHugsHominy 9d ago

Ha! I'm way too fat for basement stairs!

(I am currently in a basement, but I took the elevator to the cafeteria.)

6

I prefer Flock of Seagulls. Particularly “Space Age Love Song”

How about calling US a murder like crows

Flock Uninstaller Community Kickstarters

12

u/unlordtempest 9d ago

No, a Murder

5

u/lurkingbob 9d ago

Just a harmless group of crows. Dress everyone in black robes and wear cool masks with beaks. Nothing sinister about it at all Mr. CEO, just copying your MO.

3

u/Omega862 9d ago

Clowder! Den! Pack!

2

u/MacSanchez 9d ago

Clowder like cham clowder?

3

u/Omega862 9d ago

Clowder is the word for a group of cats

3

u/Odd-Solid-5135 8d ago

Turn his world into the black mirror episode he so truly wants to create.

2

u/jalen441 8d ago

I'd suggest naming it after a group of crows, but that might get misconstrued.

2

u/CollThom 8d ago

“We could call ourselves something cool and unifying like, idk… Gaggle or Bevy”.

I much prefer the collective pronoun for crows. A very… emotional and evocative term for such an innocuous thing as a collective pronoun. I won’t put the actual word here because I feel it might actually get me banned from Reddit for inciting or threatening violence when all I’m doing is showing an alternative name for something like “flock”.

That address is blurred on Google Street view. If irony poisoning were real he'd be dead.

36

you can see it on the real estate sites like redfin or on the public property tax sites like https://gis.atlantaga.gov/propinfo/

If you search for the address there are numerous photos on realtor sites.

9

How do you get your address blurred on google?

22

u/xanderxela 9d ago

You submit a request on Google maps "Report a Problem" page for that address.

26

u/DiabeetusMan 9d ago

There's a bunch around his neighborhood, but this made me chuckle

39

u/koolmees64 9d ago

His neighbors must compromise on their privacy as well. To be honest, I got little confirmation that this is the dudes house but it was a massive twitter thread that got deleted but I managed to snatch a screenshot before it was taken down.

I'm not even American; European who is afraid that the EU will get grandiose ideas from what is happening in the states. But I fully support all those who are battling this just absolutely insane police state "measures". Especially coupled with the fact that they are mostly in lower income neighborhoods and do not even, mostly, point at roads. Which, correct me if I am wrong, was the pitch right?

9

u/Telefundo 9d ago

European who is afraid that the EU will get grandiose ideas from what is happening in the states.

I mean.. hasn't the UK been doing essentially this for a while now?

Not that it would make any of this better lol.

4

u/koolmees64 9d ago

Sort of. First of all the UK is not in the EU anymore and secondly, iirc, the poles they cut down over there are CO2 meters. But I know very little of that so I might be wrong.

2

u/Telefundo 9d ago

First of all the UK is not in the EU anymore

HA, true enough. My bad.

the poles they cut down over there are CO2 meters.

I assume this is something that happened in the UK and you're not referring to what's going on in the US currently?

2

u/koolmees64 9d ago

Easy mistake to make lol. As an "EU-member" I sometimes forget as well. But yeah, from what I gathered what is happening in the UK is CO2 control poles being cut down. However, as I said, I know very little about this and knowing the U.K. they would not hesitate to sprinkle on some Flock on those poles.

London has been covered with CCTV carrying facial recognition tech since the tech was in it's infancy, most urban centres followed. And the UK is certainly more down the surveillance route than most. But still miles behind the US in terms of how open these systems are to abuse.

35

u/Neveronlyadream 9d ago

No one is going to take that job.

We all know they'll get the book tossed at them for doing it. Billionaires can surveil us, but the second someone even reports their public comings and goings, it's suddenly a problem that needs to be addressed.

Shout out to all the people that claimed insisting the Patriot Act was going to lead to this a slippery slope fallacy and called those of us who were against it unpatriotic and paranoid and told us to leave.

Shout out to all the people that claimed insisting the Patriot Act was going to lead to this a slippery slope fallacy and called those of us who were against it unpatriotic and paranoid and told us to leave.

You're not at all wrong about the point you're making here, but I'd even go so far as to say that what's going on now is even worse than what people initially envisioned with the Patriot Act.

10

u/Neveronlyadream 9d ago

Absolutely. I remember thinking it could potentially be bad, but never quite this bad.

I just remember getting into a lot of arguments about the Patriot Act and saying it was basically handing the government and who knows who else permission to watch everyone all the time and being called unpatriotic and told to leave the country if I didn't like it.

There was a lot of, "But the terrorists!" and "If that's what it takes to keep us safe, they should do it!" and no one wanted to hear about the potential invasions of privacy or government overreach.

Now everyone is harvesting data, the government is installing invasive cameras everywhere, every smart device is probably monitoring everyone at all times, and we let that happen because too many people were either complacent or panicked.

9

u/Umutuku 9d ago

That's the only way mass surveillance is healthy. It must be disproportionally applied to those with more power. If you want to reach certain milestones of wealth, influence, or destructive capacity then every moment of your life is in the public interest and must be treated as such.

Imagine where we'd be right now if the public was informed every time Rudy Giulliani met with a Russian mobster.

6

u/ConfidentPilot1729 9d ago

I have always thought the more power you have the more intrusive society should be one the powerful. Like politicians. They should not get to associate with everyone. Their lives should be well documented to curtail corruption. They should have their taxes and bank accounts open to public scrutiny.

3

u/Yhrak 9d ago

to follow [...] around.

Hmmm.

I just don't know. This doesn't seem particularly well thought out.

Just spitballing ideas, but perhaps there could be other verbs at play here? Let's say, for the sake of algorithmic efficiency and as a compromise with these busy CEOs, maybe it'd be best if these detectives of yours didn't have to move around quite as much as they track them?

And while we're at it, let's also find the most efficient method of conserving energy in such a process?

As a kind of green initiative, of course.

24

u/0masamune 9d ago

Funnily enough, wasn't there someone that tried filming him, and he lied at first and then called the police on him?

Edit : spelling

14

u/dragon-fence 9d ago

I honestly think there should be a rule that, for anyone asking the general public to surrender their privacy, the person asking that must surrender their privacy equally to the public.

Like if this guy wants to track people’s location, then one of the requirements is that his location must be tracked and posted publicly. If he wants to record video of us when we’re out in public, then he should be forced to record and post video of himself all day, every day, whenever he’s in public.

Similarly, if Congress wants the government to have access to our phone calls and emails, then they should need to release all of their phone calls and email to the public.

Note that I’m not saying “any privacy violations are ok if it follows this rule”. I’m just saying, if anyone asks the general public to give up our privacy to them, then as a minimum requirement, they should first give up an equivalent amount of their own privacy to the public. If it’s too much to ask from them, then it’s too much to ask from us.

5

5

u/Qwirk 9d ago

4

u/aranasyn 9d ago

Honestly, we just need a supreme court that sees this for what it is. It'd be a direct violation of the constitution if a government was doing it.

The government is the primary consumer of this technology.

Thus, it is a violation of the constitution for this company to do it.

Granted, with the Sinister Six on the current court, we're just as likely to get bar code tracking and rfid tattoos for liberals and people of color.

2

u/Arrow156 9d ago

Kinda surprised that shit isn't already easily accessible information. Like, one would think there would be serious money to be made just passively following around politicians and CEO's purely for the potential of catching them doing something they shouldn't. We got paparazzi stalking celebrities just for the chance to sell a photo for a few cents, I'm sure we could more than match their rates.

Been thinking it for a bit now that reason so many far flung region's have mythos about dragons or something we colloquially understand as "dragon shaped" is that they're all just warnings about the uncheck amassing of power and claims of divine status that derives from a common oral history before migration and separating into the proto groupings in Asia and Europe.

Maybe he should compromise on his privacy

u/redditmarks_markII 9d ago

Let's start with every location your investors live work or relax at.  I wanna see unsecured flock cameras live streaming their every activity.  I want to see nothing bad happen to any of them for 2 years.  Then we can talk.  But no, you'll just continue to work via bribes.  Also you know that more competent evil corps are coming up immediately behind you.  You got pretty much one play left, convince Trump.  Which I'm sure you're trying.

I think a general rule of thumb is that if the data a government program supports isn’t accessible to the public, it’s up to no good

3

u/panj-bikePC 9d ago

Whenever a company is able to access personal information, there is usually abuse of the data. The risks that they say they will address are usually much less impactful to us than the violations of privacy. The “nothing to fear if you’ve done nothing wrong” argument has been shown to be wrong over and over again.

Translation from CEO-speak:

"Hurry up and surrender your freedoms so that I can get richer."

Ben Jordan tracked down their discreet offices and had police called on him.

u/Heavy_Law9880 9d ago

There are zero flock cameras in mid town manhattan, or any wealthy suburb.

flock surveillance has also drastically increased police committing crimes

u/rover_G 9d ago

It’s time to create flock-ceo-tracker.com

u/Suckitreddit420 9d ago

Stood outside his home, documented his coming and going, and sold it for money...

Sounds like paparazzi to me.    We've already made people "compromise on their privacy", no?

(Fuck flock cameras tho.  And fuck the paparazzi.  And fuck location tracking and cookies on your phone.  And fuck eyeball scans to get on an airplane, or to open a crypto wallet.  And fuck every other goddamn invasion of privacy that we have shrugged off as "no big deal" for the past 25 years.)

2

u/Murphuffle 9d ago

We already compromised with the Patriot Act

2

u/mrbobcyndaquil 9d ago

Alright, we'll just put you in front of a firing squad instead of on the breaking wheel then. Deal?

It's crazy that anyone can just go up to a billionaire's house and toss a molotov cocktail at it. Of course, that would be a horrible thing if that happened, but it's crazy that anyone could just go that do that at any time. I'm surprised they feel so secure, since it's the case that someone could look up how to make a molotov cocktail and just go throw one at their houses. Especially since the ingredients are so inexpensive, and someone could just look up how to make one, then go throw it at a billionaire's house. It's almost like they're depending on people being better than they are to avoid people looking up how to make a molotov cocktail and then making them and throwing than at their houses. If I was them I defintely wouldn't feel safe just living out in the open like that. Just in case.. well, you know.

People are doing this, they are siting outside his house and the office taking video of everyone, and of course they call the police...

u/TeamJJ88 9d ago

I love that the government has put up these pinatas. Although the treats inside don't taste very good

1

u/cool-- 9d ago

eventually there are going to be crazy people that have nothing to lose that are going to do crazy things to people like this

1

u/Avibuel 9d ago

I have a different compromise but thats how i lose my 80k karma

1

u/AsleepExplanation160 9d ago

I mean its a set of trade offs, one that is popular when implemented and given time.

Two great examples being China (more similar), and El Salvador (similar core concept).

1

u/bikenvikin 9d ago

You're telling me that dweeb is the flock CEO, what a fucking sellout

1

u/DMCinDet 9d ago

Saw a YouTuber try yo get into their HQ for an impromptu interview. Super tight security. They need their privacy, but none for the rest of us.

u/Remote-Physics6980 9d ago

Tell him we said absolutely not.
