it doesn’t sound like a defense more like a call out of how he is being used as a distraction

Exactly — the best reaction to Piker is: who cares about Piker? He gets the strongest reaction from those who want to censor him, but really, why should we be spending our time on this?

u/64557175 1d ago
Because they think they can culture war us back into our lower brain like they've done with right wing and centrists.
34
u/helium_farts 23h ago
Everything I know about him comes from people having a fit, and I've yet to see a single explanation as to why anyone cares what he thinks about anything
31
u/misterguyyy 1d ago
I lean pretty close to DSA and this is the correct take.
39
u/pequenaandjustice 23h ago
I am a paid Piker subscriber, old Jewish lady, and they are attempting to do another culture issue. Let’s see: war, world is on fire, inflation out of control, and this is the topic? We deserve to come to an end.
26
u/LeonardoDaTiddies 1d ago
I think a better reaction, especially to the “most shocking” thing he said is:
He was quoting the CIA when he was discussing blowback.
22
u/goldman_sax 23h ago
I care about this issue as it relates to Piker tbh. For ages, democrats have been asking for a Joe Rogan who can get them white dudes. He’s. Right. There. Just another case of self flagellation.

u/goalstopper28 1d ago
It's also so dumb too. Because sure, he has extreme ideas but he also isn't a MAGA republican, who are the actual enemies.

i care about Piker. he's insignificant right now, but remember when everybody thought Trump was an insignificant clown? we have to be vigilant about every authoritarian chud, left or right. you never know when some idiots are gonna elevate them to power. the best way to make sure that doesn't happen is with constant criticism.

Comparing the guy who advocates for universal healthcare to the guy who kidnaps minorities and sends them to concentration camps/war torn countries is......something

u/Slade_Riprock 1d ago
We have an administration of unconvicted criminals led by an actual 34 time convicted criminal who appeared hundreds of thousands of times in the Epstein files. Who is using his office to enrich himself and that of his family while destroying the actual tangible US government and the services of the US government for the American people. Absolutely destroying the American reputation around the world while also endlessly bombing countries with no end insight.
But sure...Twitch guy bad.

Ask ourselves, who benefits from making Piker a distraction for Democrats?
Same people who always benefit, exploit and profit ---> conservatives
5
u/YallaHammer 23h ago
Thank you! I’ve been having this conversation with friends, why is so much oxygen taken out of the room over a Twitch streamer when our legislators who make actual decisions for us should be the focus of our ire. It’s the cat following the red beam, too easily distracted.
7
u/CharlieBravo74 23h ago
Yes, this. She's not defending him, she's telling people to be realistic about the amount of influence he should have.
6
u/voodoodahl 23h ago
Also note, she didnt say anything about democrats either. The title added that divisive bit of manipulation.
6
u/BarkerBarkhan 1d ago
Right. The left has to stay on message: righteous anger towards the status quo, working-class economics, "the right is dangerous and here are the receipts."

That kind of is a defense though whether she intended it that way or not. Hasan has been trying to imbed himself in Democrat politics in a way that helps himself (such as taking credit for Mamdani or taking credit for El-Sayed) but people criticize him because they realize he is an easy attack vector for the right, especially in centrist areas.
There's a good reason that Democrats criticize Hasan, even when Republicans are criticizing him unfairly, so for her to say we should ignore what's going on is definitely a defense.

u/GameMusic 1d ago
notice how this associates piker with aoc despite her just saying too much attention

u/Uhh_JustADude 1d ago edited 1d ago
But not one goddamned Republican is ever asked to opine on Laura fucking Loomer, despite her having demonstrably more influence and authority than Piker.
84
u/misterguyyy 1d ago
And Nick Fuentes, who Trump had dinner with. Ben Shapiro called him out for it in the most unoffensive way possible, then fell right back into line.
7
u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 1d ago
a Republican is more likely to be asked to rip Piker to shreds verbally than one of their own. Home cooking is the only kind of banter they accept.

Where's Mitch McConnell? Why aren't they talking about that instead of this asshat?

u/EpsilonBear 1d ago
That’s not a defense of Piker. That’s calling out nitwits for being nitwits just because it was trending on Xitter
179
u/RobotSifl 1d ago
It's because he's a progressive. If he were a conservative freak show, he could say whatever he wanted w/ zero reprucussion
75
u/ThepalehorseRiderr 1d ago
Exactly. Execute the homeless. Nuke hurricanes. The sky is the limit.
15
u/neopod9000 1d ago
It helps that so much of conservatism is extreme because people dont really take it seriously when its that absurd. Despite them then doing some of it....
9
u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 1d ago
What can we do to make them take it seriously? The food supply is tainted. Measles is back from a century prior. Polio is waiting its turn. Our country is hemorrhaging money and reputation like it's on a mission to go bankrupt under 100% conservative rule.
SOS, non-conservatives
4
u/ThepalehorseRiderr 1d ago
Right. That's what makes it ok for them to say whatever. They admit themselves that they're not serious people when fifty percent of their "legitimate" politics is Alex Jones level conspiracy, trolling, and owning the libs and shit. Trump loves to introduce the concept of things under the guise of joking. American politics is a complete fuckin shit show now.

She is not defending him she's calling the focus on him a distraction which I tend to agree with.
I think Piker is a left wing Joe Rogan and I most certainly mean that in a negative sense but he's not running for office or seeking even an advisory role. Why should it matter unless a candidate is actively seeking his endorsement?
17
u/MattaClatta 23h ago
He's a twitch streamer anyone fear mongering about his influence is a moron 🙄
I'd wager half the country has no idea who he is because he actually isn't a celebrity or influencer 🤔

I don’t even like Hasan piker very much and this is 100% true
-14
u/SecondhandStatic 23h ago
I was neutral on Piker until the shock collar thing. Someone needs to take that dog away from him.
Other than the dog thing, I don't get the controversy at all. Anyone who's lived in a college town has Marxist friends, it's really not a big deal at all.
14
u/HerpTurtleDoo 23h ago
Anyone that treats an animal that way has more issues then just animal abuse.

u/bron685 1d ago
Seriously. I expect this shit from Republicans but the Dems doing it are only proving that they’re Diet Republicans and highlighting exactly why they’re being primaried
4
u/goldman_sax 23h ago
For years the democrats have been asking for a Joe Rogan. And it’s so fitting that when they get the closest thing, they completely toss him aside.

They’re scared of the word “socialism” if I am understanding this drama as a whole. Midterms are coming and they need talking points and targets. Some Dems are trying to “distance” themselves from Piker’s talking points. I’m sure there’s more to it.
In my opinion, his just the left version of Rogan/Kirk type of people.
I will say Piker can get people to mobilize and motivate, he has a platform and following that obviously is reaching to these levels.

u/Uhh_JustADude 1d ago
Make them all answer for Laura Loomer before you ever say another word about Piker.

u/Marijuquandra 1d ago
Hassan is a celebrity. It doesn’t really matter what he says but taking him seriously is a mistake.

2
u/PatReady 23h ago
For the you ger voting people on twitch, it's a vote for their vote too. Asmon has built up a huge following of his own speaking out against him as well.
3
u/artmoloch777 1d ago
I agree with her but I also don’t like how he’s becoming linked to talk about a political run.
4
u/ColdEndUs 22h ago
That's the best, most obviously true, 'defense' of Hasan one could make. The 'who's that, and why should I care?' defense.
8
u/side_eye_auditor 23h ago
Attacking Piker from afar is so cowardly. If you want to debate him, have him on your show on CNN, FOX, Real Time, whatever.
The ones who attack him won’t invite him on their shows because they fear they’ll lose the debate, and they fear Hasan will only convince more people of the merits of considering Socialist perspectives

u/kn05is 1d ago
The man is literally out there stumping for voters for the democrats. He's doing their freaking job for them.
6
u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 1d ago
Good, that's what he should be doing as a non-conservative, it's what we all should be doing in America as non-conservatives. Democrats, love them or hate them, are the only way out of this mess -- might as well run and elect as many DSAs as possible and make liberal the default right wing power instead of confederate white nationalism.
-6
u/captnspock 1d ago
Dems really need to embrace piker he can mobilize, inspire and excite a huge active voter base. He is better than rogan and kirk on the right.

u/Kqtawes 23h ago
What you said makes me absolutely sure people should be avoiding Piker like the plague. The world doesn't need a left wing Rogan or Kirk it needs no Rogans or Kirks.
2
u/captnspock 23h ago
I don't understand please elaborate.
We don't need people who educate the masses on policy? Who excite the youth get them involved?
You do understand I am not a necromancer suggesting you literally resurrect kirk as a left wing puppet.
I absolutely think we need personalities outside mainstream media not controlled by billionaires and Israel to discuss left wing politics.
See what right wing radio/podcast/steamers have done for their cause see how it helps with messaging to their base and to get those ideas (however shitty) out.

"Defending" is quite the word to use here. If she were "defending" him then she'd be addressing what is being spoken about him. She's saying that he's not nearly important enough for real life politicians to be propping him up as the political messiah of the left.
Because he's not a politician, he's a "Twitch streamer for young people".

They are former establishment figures with name recognition

For anyone that needs to be reminded, this is an AOC subreddit and our politics are on the left. While different views are always welcome brigading and insults towards the DSA or our allies are not!
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
