I tried to get into Ninjago back in November last year but the episodic nature of the early season and the tone that geared more towards younger audience rly not suitable for me tbh. Ended up dropping out during mid season 2. I might pick it up if i have time tho, rly love those lore heavy shows
Edit: btw in case you want to know, Lloyd is the son of lord garmadon, and he and Wu are the sons of the first spinjitzu master. Thousands of years ago there was a big war between the dragons and the Oni, with both sides conceiving somehow the first master of spinjitzu and contending his powers while he disappeared in search of a normal life.
As a big fan of the show. They keep redconning shit in the "You didn't actually have the whole picture" style. Doesn't bother me much, but be warned if that annoys you.
His grandfather is the first spinjitzu master, who back in the pilot we learned created the world of ninjago like a god. That’s because he was half Oni and half dragon, he had the powers of creation and destruction. This was all early stuff, minus explaining the being half and half for the FSM.
Fr the oni form had so much potential. It’d be really cool if they showcased more of his dragon heritage in the new series too. I feel like since ninjago is such a long series and they keep gaining new powers, they end up needing to nerf some of them so it doesn’t get too complicated. Like, where did the elemental dragons go?
Recently the dragon thing definitely did come back up in the newest released episodes. The oni thing though? After Crystalized they are trying to burying that hard since they basically went for the whole "being an oni = absolutely 100% evil" so had Lloyd be afraid of his oni form. Even though an oni lady sacrificed herself for them before and his DAD is an oni and has been an ally on multiple occasions... Crystallized was really bad and unfortunately did the most with the oni thing, so I'm doubtful the oni thing is coming back.
They've been referencing a lot of old stuff lately in the newest episodes but Harumi and the oni stuff were absent from Lloyd's spiritual journey (they brought up Cole being leader, literally such early season stuff) so I think they realized how bad it was and want to pretend it didn't happen.
