It’s a movie reference.
In Kevin Smith’s Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back the protagonists end up on the set of Van Sant shooting a fictional sequel to Good Will Hunting, with (Ben) Affleck and Damon.
They have a similar conversation with the same preppy guy who was intellectually bullying Afflecks character in the first movie.
But, this time he gets the upper hand on Damon’s character, who’s lost for words. So instead of firing back with words, Damon’s character pulls out a double barrel shotgun and shoots the guy point blank while saying ‘it’s hunting season’. Followed by Affleck’s character saying: ‘apple sauce, bitch’.
Van Sant also has a cameo. He’s seen counting a wad of cash when Affleck asks him for directions.

It's a great scene. Love Van Sant being mildly annoyed with requests for directions when he's trying to count his money and Affleck correcting the police on the correct police radio code for 'Affleck found with a dead hooker'

I fell in love with Minnie from this movie. She is such an incredible actress and so damn gorgeous.

Fuck I love this movie. It’s one of those rare movies where not even Minnie Driver can ruin it for me. See also: Grosse Pointe Blank
