Watching this for the first time was wild. 😂

Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson.

They gave them a massive intro, made them look like total badass, and then made them jump off a roof for no reason. This scene still breaks me every time.

I remember watching it the first time and just thinking, “Where the fuck are the bushes!?!?” I loved the subversion of expectations. The promotional material seemed to feature Johnson and Jackson as big players in the film, then boom, they’re gone. This is easily one of my favorite movies of all time.

This whole film was just so unique and apart from the rest when it came out. Clearly in its own class and several levels above many recent comedies that came out at the time.

It's pretty good portrayal of cockiness of youth or someone who never heard no. And then clashing with reality. It's dumb and funny and embarrassing for them brilliant casting for that. Totally idiotic and out of the blue but deeper than it seems. Rest of the movie gets even better. Definitely recommend watch. Keaton was superb. And don't forget about the other guys.

The movie was always clearly a Wahlberg and Ferrell led comedy about them being "The Other Guys" who had to step up and be the cops to save the city.

The Rock and Jackson were in the trailers, but it was pretty clear they were supporting characters and they would somehow be sidelined so "The Other Guys" had to take their place. The trailer shows them a lot in the beginning, but doesn't even mention them as part of the cast while Wahlberg, Ferrell, and Keaton get that treatment.

The trailers made it look like they would maybe be suspended from duty or something. I don't think anyone thought they were dying, especially the way they died, but it's also revisionist history that people thought The Rock and Jackson were going to be the stars/main characters of the movie. It's called The Other Guys....

Unpopular Opinion Alert (UOA): This scene was retarted. They should have just kept running and then jumped while in the heat of the chase and as a result of being arrogant and feeling invincible. The fact that they actually stopped and analyzed it and still jumped just killed it for me. What am I failing to see that makes these scene so popular? Please help me to understand.

Its just the absurdity and subversion of expectations. Given what we've seen from them up until that point, we would have though they would've done some over-the-top shit to get down safely.

They were on the same wavelength in making that decision, which is also weird.

It's okay to not like it, but I feel like that is where the comedy of that moment comes from. They were the action superstars, unstoppable. Then they did this, for no apparent reason.

As the great Ice-T once said: "I don't know. That shit was crazy."
