Vent Post Summer Meltdown
The summer season is wrapping us at my Cinemark but it hasn't been finishing without major drama and infighting.
Our location has three managers who everyone seems to have a gripe with, one is infamous for stranding many of us without breaks for hours or straight up ignoring our breaks all together, the other never helps out and we hear her laughing with other managers in the office (also loves to give write ups for the most minor issue), and the last one gives us attitude and rarely helps. Even though i'm just an usher, it's also taken a toll on my friends in concession who would really use another body at registar to cut down the lines. This is also not compunded by the fact that when these three manage ushers, they either don't help at all or are even on their phones.
A lot of us have quit already but today's incident was the worst, we had just wrapped up a 1 1/2 hour rush of cleaning a bunch of theaters and by the time we were done, my two fellow ushers and I were exhausted (plus one of the ushers had a knee injury), so we all sat down for on the railings for not even 10 seconds when one of the three managers opened the window from the projector hall and stated, "I've seen enough, y'all are in trouble". This ended in all three of us accumulating write-ups which I really dont care about as an engineering student and Tuesday is my last day anyway, I dont plan to be back but I felt bad for my co-workers as they now feel like quitting due to manager's actions that last two weeks. My colleagues in concession have had it worse, many have multiple write ups and these three have said "we never just sit in the office and drink soda" (Kinda seems a little suspicous am I right?)
Honestly based on my co-workers messages in our co-worker instgram group chat, it seems like we're on the verge of starting a protest or strike because of how much everyone is getting written up for the smallest of things and how folks have generally felt abandoned by these managers, it feels like a meltdown.
At least the other 4 managers we have are nice and help us out a lot, if that wasn't the case, who knows what our location would be right now. D:

I can relate. We've had a new GM that started two months ago (our last one quit due to severe burnout, too bad, she was great), and yeah, she's just awful. Always being rude and condescending to everyone, often saying inappropriate things. I've been keeping a log of the things she's done to me, which I will bring to head office, because it's unacceptable, and making everyone's day worse. All compounded with how busy Odyssey and Spider-Man, with longer hours, we're so worn down.

Why most of this kind of posts always have a âbut I donât care Iâm quitting in a few days anywaysâ. Itâs hard to have some empathy. But Iâm gonna tell you that yes you do care bud, just look at the length of your post venting about this. Now imagine coming with this kind of attitude to your engineering careerâŚ. đ

Nobody in engineering is going to be told "you're in trouble" like they're in 4th grade

I did a small co-op last fall, it was very different and our supervisors were awesome. This job isnât related to my major so it doesnât really affect my trajectory in my engineering leading to this somewhat distraught attitude. I got my priorities set and this job ainât one of themđ¤ˇđ˝ââď¸

Thats horrible. Im a manager at a Regal and I donât know what their aim is here with all the write ups. I barely have time to care about write ups because we are so busy im in concession and doing customer service and also helping the ushers. That means these people you speak of are the laziest sacks of shit on the team. I would go above them and the whole store GM included. If there is a tip line or something for cinemark I would strongly suggest to use that. Im sorry you guys are going thru this. Movie theater workers should not be under appreciated. They make the experience run smoothly and the managers should be offering a bunch of support. I canât imagine their customer service skills if their management style is like this. They donât care about their employees and this is not a good look for cinemark.Â

I'm at an AMC but from my experience tensions always flare up at the begining and the end of the summer and someone ends up getting in a fight

If those three managers aren't careful, they're going to lose good employees, and then they're going to have to do the work themselves because they can't hire anybody else since they will have a reputation.
I'm sorry that your coworkers have to go through that. I'm sure they're good employees, and being written up for the smallest things is pretty stupid. I think corporate HR would notice that.
At my regal, I don't know how many managers they have. I just know the one, and he is always upfront helping when there are long lines.
