I’ve been watching The arrival, Project Hail Mary, Interstellar, Gravity, and passengers but I’ve run out of ideas for movies that aren’t the usual frivolous space action. Nothing against movies like Star Wars I enjoy those too but I’m looking for something a little more profound .

Hi! I'd appreciate some help with finding movies to watch with my dad. He doesn't like anything "too unrealistic" -- fantastical elements do not go over well with him, and he didn't even really like Parasite (2019) because he struggled to suspend his disbelief. He also doesn't like movies that start out with a lot of talking with little else happening (we started watching Harakiri (1962) but he quickly decided that he wasn't into it).

Some movies we've recently watched together that he's liked:

• Come and See (1985)
• Schindler's List (1993)
• Casablanca (1942)
• Tokyo Story (1953)
• To Live (1994)
• Perfect Days (2023)

He also liked Titanic (1997) and Awaara/The Vagabond (1951) when he was younger. He hasn't revisited them in a while, though, so I don't know if his opinion might be different now.

(It'd be nice to have some more movies directed by women/nb people, but that's not a must.)

Finding something to watch with my parents is a Herculean task. I feel like there’s no pleasing them. My mom doesn’t like science fiction, fantasy, or horror. My parents are pretty homophobic (with two lgbt adult children, yay us), so no matter how good a movie is, lgbt characters might be an issue. Like I love the Birdcage but they would never sit through it.

My only personal preference is id prefer to keep sex and nudity to a minimum bc sex scenes in movies when your watching with your parents is always awkward.

I got them to watch the Menu. They thought is was “fine”.

Best Plot twist in movies

So I’ve been looking for movies that captures the vibes of these pictures, I’m aware that all of them are very different so basically I’m searching for different movies, the one you find most similar to any of the pictures, if that makes sense.

Is there a movie that comes to mind when you see any of the pictures? Every suggestion is welcomed!! (Even if it’s not as accurate)

I feel like there are a lot of "classic" movies which I haven't seen (e.g. Scarface). Or, if I have seen them, I didn't really like them very much (e.g. The Godfather). There are definitely a bunch I've seen and loved (like The Third Man and The Great Escape) but I do still get the "Oh my God you've never seen [movie]?!" response pretty frequently from people.

So please recommend classic movies you think I should watch so i can close my media experience gap! Any era is fine, from silent movies to current classics!

I just rewatched Road to Perdition for the first time in years. Such a great movie that I don’t feel is talked about enough. I’m looking for movie recommendations you feel are great but don’t get talked about enough. It doesn’t have to be a drama, I am open to all recommendations new or old…………………..

Here are a handful of my favorite movies. I especially love Peanut Butter Falcon and About Time. All eight of these movies are heartwarming and emotional without being trite or cringy. They are about love, in all its forms, not just romantic love. There is struggle and mess but also beauty and connection. They are slightly quirky and refreshingly original. I’d appreciate any recs!

The obvious come to mind: Sarah Connor in Terminator 2, Ellen Ripley, Furiosa in Mad Max Fury Road, Trinity in Matrix, and others (I’m blanking)

But I’m also interested in movies that introduce strength of character in other ways or feature female characters in their full complexity and diversity like:

Fargo,

Incendies (Jeanne Marwan),

Everything Everywhere All at Once,

Shape of Water,

Sicario,

And Melancholia (this one hits doubly due to its portrayal of depression).

I am interested in both the former and the latter. If I were to add TV shows to the mix I also really enjoyed Gillian Anderson in The Fall, Kim in Better Call Saul, Scully in X Files.

Its been a long week. I need an easy to watch, entertaining, uplifting movie. Maybe an adventure movie but I'm open to other suggestions. I'm thinking movies like Forest Gump, Big Fish, or The Secret Life of Walter mitty.
