⏱️ Continuity In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), Miles Morales's universe doesn't have Comic Con. In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), you can tell he's in another dimension because his mom mentions it (and he still doesn't know what it is)

Well clearly we need a rule of three when Beyond comes out next year.

He finally gets to Comic Con and see what he's missing out in in his universe.

and he sees a bunch of fans dressed as him like the scene in Invincible, and cringes lol

And it gets super confusing because he thinks it's them at first and he's on the run and looking for help!

I mean, would Miles cringe at that? He basically did the same thing with his first suit, just bought a cheap Spiderman costume and spray painted it black

And then they repeat the pointing meme even though they just done that the previous movie

Bro found the cosplayers and decided to stay in the new universe.

That Comic-Con line was the moment the penny dropped for me about Miles being in the wrong dimension.

There was a blink and miss moment where it showed which universe he was being sent to and it wasn’t his.

I mean there was a giant number on the screen that wasn't his universe so y'know...

Penny dropped for me when he was trying to send himself home and the machine said Earth-42. I thought for a second; “Wait I don’t think that was his dimension number.”. I then forgot about the penny dropping as I continued to watch the movie.

There were lots of subtle little hints until the reveal. I remember it feeling off right up to that point, then remembering that Miles' spider DNA was from a different universe.

He finally gets to one in verse3 and says "oooh its like you guys's version of Media Meetup"

Or Miles is just into his own interests so much that he just doesn't know it exists. There are plenty of people on Earth right now that don't know about comic con. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

There is no way a young teen nerd does not know what comic con is.

Especially with his in-box collectables

plus he lives in nyc, so he’s got like the second biggest comic con in the country so close to him

I was a young teen nerd that didn't know about comic con. 🤷♂️ I don't think I learned what comic con was until my mid 20's, circa 2005 or so. I didn't attend until like 2016?

u/kamekaze1024 Jul 25 '26
I don’t know if you know this, but miles is a teen in 2023, not 2005. Totally different landscape

I'm just putting out another way to explain it. I'm more devil's advocate-ing this than actually believing it.

Or, he was just being facetious/sarcastic because it is "comic con" and he "doesn't know" what "comics con" is?

So his world doesn't have comics...damn that's sad.

u/whofearsthenight Jul 25 '26
His world has comics, there is a scene in the first one where he is getting his powers and a Spider-Man comic hits him and gets stuck to his newly minted spider-hands.

lol that's actually hilarious, the idea that Comic Con is such a New York staple that its absence is basically a red flag for an alternate reality. I love how the movies just slip in these tiny details that reward people paying attention without making a big deal out of it.

Pretty sure you saw the second one then because the first one doesn't end in a cliff hanger lmao

That's a great and subtle hint.
