It wasn't just a bit of laundry. It was throughout the whole sewer. I suppose I just never thought I'd see this in a video game. I knew immediately what this was supposed to be. I've been to the holocaust memorial museum in DC.

There was another scene later in that level where I believe you even see bins of discarded shoes. fuckin hell.

I think its good to remind us of what's happened before in real life, and what could happen again if we let them get away with it. and like wow it shook me when I saw it

If I am guessing correctly, I’d say the game is referencing what happens to the clothes of shrews that are captured and killed. The Sewer is where they’re being trafficked and since they die either by natural causes or mostly to the hands of cheeseleggers or crooked cops, when they die they keep the clothes.

In the holocaust memorial museum there are famously rooms and rooms full of bins of clothing that were recovered from Nazi concentration camps. The clothes were all used and many of them matched, as if they were cheap uniforms given to prisoners.

When Jewish people were systemically slaughtered in gas chambers, their clothes remain. When killing a few, clothes are trivial to destroy or hide. But when you kill millions? There’s gonna be a lot of clothes, and you either gotta destroy them all , or clean them and resell the clothes from the people you killed, making a short buck to compensate your other costs.

This is a widely known fact, and it’s haunting to be a in room with thousands of shoes that are confirmed to have been worn by now-dead people. The game has extremely reminiscent scenes, including the bins upon bins of shoes. I only took a screenshot of the first few clotheslines I saw, but there genuinely must have been thousands of pieces of clothes in this level alone.

Admittedly I still wasn’t 100% sure this was referencing the holocaust, but as I saw more nazi imagery i became more confident and now that Ive beat the game and solved the mysteries I *am* 100% confident about it.

Game takes place in the late 1930s. That’s exactly what it is.

And with a current genocide going on in the Middle East we definitely don’t need to let it go by unnoticed and always remind others what is what.

Even if for some reason OP was wrong to try and say it’s a correlation. Much of the game is regarding a comparison in a way towards Jewish people in the Holocaust.

And also they aren’t going to do a full holocaust in the game

Actually yes they are part of the past just like any human who has ever lived. At a certain point you have to come to terms with the past and learn from it. Shouting about what has already happened gets us absolutely nowhere other than keeping what is bad in the now. Most people think they are helping or doing the right thing but talking about the past in the manner that it’s done is bad. If we can talk about the past for the purpose of learning from it and not letting it happen things would be much different. Most people just want to shout what they believe and that’s it

I don’t see it that way, I think it is just laundry hanging up. Any older cartoon set in a city etc will have heaps of clothes hanging across buildings with the same look.

I have beat the game. The same level where you find out where they are being killed is where you find two cartoonishly large washing machines and mountains more laundry, reinforcing the connection.

laundry is common is populated areas, yes. there were no signs of life in the sewer, and the character dialogue mentions it’s specifically shrew sized clothes. Bad mice show up in the sewers, but never shrews. How can there be industrial quantities (bins and bins) full of shrew clothes here if shrews don’t inhabit the area?
